It wasn't just him getting him heat for his character, which is understandable, since that is you want if you're a heel. This was beyond the character he had or gimmick he was using. HHH is an above average worker and wrestler. You can classify him as good, but great is a stretch.

E. Bischoff screwed WCW. He lost the Monday Night Ratings War and he destroyed WCW along with Vince Russo.
All apart of Triple H's master plan he get to the top and stay there while keeping others at bay. He sabotaged Test push for stardom by convincing Vince to gradually remove Test from his storyline with Stephanie. He then courts Stephanie while he was still banging Chyna ain't no telling how long he was observing Stephanie to make a move.
Test wasn't good enough on the mic. He had the skill set and the looks to be a champion but he was never good on the mic
One way or another HHH lived his gimmick
Test had substance abuse issues that hindered his progress.

I've always thought the same. I think it's an ego boost for HHH because the quality of wrestler isn't any better. I'd fancy my chances in a fight against a few NXT guys, that should never be the case.

People can hate on HHH all they want, but the reality is he was the best wrestler in the world in the year 2000 and had legendary feuds with The Rock, Stone Cold, Mick Foley, Vince McMahon, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho in that year alone. He looked exactly how a professional wrestler should look and had an amazingly over gimmick with great moves. He was crisp in the ring and really could make his feuds believable. I couldn't care less about how he got to the top.

Triple H may be “bland” but you can not doubt his uniqueness as a wrestling entertainer and a worker. This guy was literally part in so many great matches, factions and storylines. So hate him all you want but I personally have a great respect for Hunter
He went out of his way to burying everyone in order to get those spots, knowing there were others that deserved it more I can't respect this guy for how he treated some hard working stars who were loved by fans but used his influence to deny them the title, title shots and treated them like jobbers and had writers de-push these wrestlers after a feud with him. Disgraceful and it's all down to backstage politics, that's why he was as successful as he is, not because he was over with fans even though he was a heel for most of his career, they never gave a face a chance to finally succeed in winning the WHC and successfully defend it and retain the title for a decent amount of time like Batista in 2005 to end HHH'S reign of terror

Triple-H/Paulie shows who you're friends with, who you marry, who you kiss ass to, screw talent over, etc... Will get you ahead in life. He was a good worker, but was a boring character. He just couldn't get over. He was boring, dry, and seems like he was overacting.
I say the same exact thing, and people will vehemently disagree. It's like they forgot his reign of terror from 03-06. It was only in 02 when he came back from the injury did he get a massive pop. I guess when wrestlers become considered legends, everything they did during their time just gets negated. Some people say flair wrestled the same match all the time, Hogan barely wrestling at all, and triple h boring mic skills/average worker, yet they're the apex.

That’s not why we hate him. That’s not really why people hate him. The hate comes from the fact that he was able to write his own legacy. Physically, write his own Legacy and put it on television. The Booker used to have the power. The book or would decide who is going over where. The WWE changed that formula with the creative team. Triple H did whatever he could to make sure that he became something.
This is when we start talking about it as a television show , he was able to write himself into matches where he would come out on top, he was able to have his promos, make him look like a genius. He was able to insert himself into matches in storylines that he didn’t need to be in. It has nothing to do with the character that he portrayed on television it had to do with the person. Paul.
Heath ledger played a great joker, because he was able to take what was written for him and make it great. Heath ledger did not write the script and make all of his parts better.
