This is 100% a "Fool Your Grandma" movie, where well intentioned elderly ladies buy them from the discount bin thinking they're the real thing. Kind of a proto Asylum thing where you probably paid more for the DVD than the actual budget.

And with that said, I'm going there and buy a pack of Mott's Extra Spicy Clamato and then go watch Fatal Deviation on You Tube!

    • @markiangooley
      @markiangooley Před 8 měsíci

The sugar in maple syrup is too concentrated to ferment reliably. You have to undo the tedious process of cooking off the water from the maple sap, at least somewhat, by adding water until it’s fermentable.
I’ve done it. Once. A gallon of the lower grade maple syrup made I think about four gallons of something about as strong as wine. It was delicious! Really, some maple sap should be concentrated less than usual and made into maple mead or wine or whatever you would call this stuff.
It’s not sweet. If you wanted it sweet you could add maple syrup once it’s done fermenting and then pasteurize it before bottling so that there’s no risk of exploding bottles.

This happens to Set a lot too. Like, if you want an evil figure that isn't just Satan and seems "exotic," make something up. Don't steal them from a mythology that will always have far more entertaining stories than whatever garbage you jam them into. And you want to use them, do it right. Trickster figures are super interesting and deserve better.

Having rewatched this a few times over the past couple of years I think I am somewhat able to parse the storyline (or lack thereof), if we go by Bryan's assumption that this was originally supposed to be one movie. Now this movie came out in 2008, meaning they probably started working on it around 2005, the year after the 3rd movie came out. What seems to have been going on is that they incoherently mashed up different plot points from the first three Harry Potter movies, mixing up different characters and then just forgetting to explain the backstory, I guess because they assumed they would have the same fanbase of Harry Potter that they would "get" it immediately. I have had to guess a lot of it based off my knowledge of harry potter.
It has been suggested that since Victor Mould is Voldemort, the dragon must be some kind of Horcrux, a call back to the 2nd book where Tom Riddle has placed a piece of his soul (that we later find out in Book 6) in the Basilisk. As someone else here in the comments said a couple years ago, the "soul [being] lost in the river" is probably literal. In addition since he is both their teacher and an evil ubervillain, he is probably some amalgamation of--Voldemort, Quirrel (who had Voldemort attached to the back of his head in Book 1) and Snape (who despite being evil Dumbledore employs because he can trust him, I don't think Mark McNabb goes into this nuance and just gives the "evil teacher" from 1st year Harry's point of view which is why it has to be based on the first 3 books). They seem to have mixed the climaxes of Book 1 and Book 2 (where Harry meets Quirrel-Voldemort in the dungeon after completing the puzzles and in the Chamber of Secrets). The brick wall withe the names from norse mythology puzzle also seems to harken back to the Diagon Alley entrance.
The principal is possibly inspired by Dumbledore but I think they have split the Dumbledore character into the principal Cupp (is that meant to be a play on Goblet of Fire?) and Thurgood. She seems more inspired by Professor McGonnagall. Thurgood is clearly a mixture of Dumbledore, Hagrid and for some reason Ollivander (he hands Harry-I mean Billy--the wand in his shop).
The fat library security guard is meant to be Argus Filch. He carries a gun because Filch regularly threatens students if they disobey school rules and seems to revel in child abuse.
I agree with Billy = Harry, Devon = Ron, Mandy (Billy and Mandy lol) = Hermione. The names even sound similar. Nameeses(?) = Malfoy is meant to follow the pun from Malfoy = Male Foy ie. Bad faith in French. Hence Nemesis = Nameeses.
Given that the two movies were originally meant to be one movie, Danny(?) who appears later than the other characters is clearly meant to be Ginny, Ron's sister. That's why Devon "saves" her, because Harry saved Ginny in Book 2. I think Danny might also be influenced by Luna Lovegood due to her affinity for animals. The resurrection of Thurgood in the second movie parallels the "resurrection" of Sirius in Book 3 through the use of time travel.
The parents seem to be Ron's parents rather than Harry's parents (for example, his aloof father Arthur who even has the same hair colour), but I think they changed this up half way due to a lack of female cast members where Petunia who isn't a witch gets amalgamated to Lily.
The Nameeses Lair is likely a reference to Malfoy Manor which was first mentioned in Order of the Phoenix (released 2003) as the new "Base" of Voldemort after his resurrection in Book 4. Nameeses (I hate this name) is working with Mould because in Book 6 (I don't know why they included this information when they missed so much other things from Book 6) it is revealed that Malfoy wants to work for Voldemort by killing Dumbledore to prove his loyalty for his father, and Snape agrees with Dumbledore that he will kill him to save Malfoy's soul.
Again, copy pasted, with no clarification, because either McNabb was high when he made this or he just assumed that his "audience" would understand it.

I have an idea about this film... could it be, that those kids wrote the script? It kinda makes sense if you think about it, everything dropped at once, nothing makes sense, a lot of sideplots that come out of nowhere and lead to nowhere, it just looks like the kids were making it up as they went along. Sort of like what Rodriguez did with Sharkboy and Lavagirl but at least he had some control over the whole thing.

Devon is also partly based on Neville because he has to overcome his fear (either in this movie or the sequel i honestly can't remember) and help the others against Mould.

And my god. Did the movie makers even LISTEN to their audio levels when they recorded the dialog for this movie? Everything that every character says is WAY over-saturated and distorted like they cranked that mic volume up to max and be damned the results. You can pretty much hear the damn feedback squeals when everyone talks.

Professor isnt a canadian thing lol. You're right in the later statement that it's because they use it in Harry Potter. A lot in this movie is done because of Harry Potter but it's done out of context because the setting is in a normal world instead of a fantasy school where little is the same as the human world. A staple of bad writing, not understanding the purpose of what you're writing and world you're creating.
