Truth. I permanently screwed up my knees from a downhill mountain-bike crash 25 years ago. Never had them looked at, but now avoid certain stressors. Cycling, after the healing, is still the best thing for my legs though (thank goodness).
At least one broke his leg or ankle, but most got away
There were a couple of riders who may have required the services of a neurologist too.

The big problem was that it was so icy. So riders kept falling well after the big accident.

Hats off to the perseverance. Some of these lads had a pretty damn hard hit and scrambled to find their bike and keep on going.

It's an obvious metaphor of life, with all the unnecessary bumps and hits from others and inflicted on others while you're all just trying to get down the mountain fast. And the few guys who made it thru before the pileup are the ''elite'. Or.... they're all just sperm in a birth canal.

Because unlike most people, he knew walking casually off to the side, or looking for the bike is not the way to end up injury free. Unlike those that stroll casually with their back towards the danger, being chopped down or having their back intagrated with someones handlebar in one smooth operation....
So true, there are a lot of clueless people there. I have less sympathy for the guy who gets hit who isn't looking uphill the entire time.

@@woostuff6542 he was first how would there be other people to celebrate if you're the first one done? The spectators barely got there when he finished. A guy that finished in the top 100-150 was 5-8 minutes slower than him and he passed over 900 riders.

Its amazing how so many people in the comments dont seem to understand this sport at all. Its not about "being convinced" by someone that riding here is a good idea. Its not about organizers hating cyclists. I feel very sorry for the people that seem to be uncapable of showing empathy for these riders just cause they never went out of their own safezone. We live in a world where it is accepted to go into a store/shop and pay 10€ for a cup of cofee worth 2€ that has the name "Venti Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino". And still THIS, riding a bike down a hill, is what people think is insane??? what is wrong in this world...

0.41 1st crasher, shortly after that someone at the left side of him crashes with his head against the rocks that are on the left side. This is really horrifying to watch. After this crash you see that person crawling to the side of the parcours. I think his or her face is damaged despite wearing a helmet. This race is madness. I see so many more terrifying crashes that this race should be renamed in The mountain of Suicide.
That guy dind't hit a rock. He hit a pile of snow. If he had crashed his head against a rock at that speed, you can be sure he could have not been able to stay concious afterwards.
Ironically at the 0:44 mark two huge head impacts (initial accident - knee to head) and upper left (head into the snow bank). Both slow to recover.
