  • How well do you know the VFR Aeronautical Sectional chart? Andrew and Caleb of Safety Pilot take each other on in a contest to stump each other on the hardest chart symbols they can find. Follow along and see if you can beat either of us in this challenge!!
Note: The symbols in this video are beyond those a student pilot would reasonably be expected to know for a checkride. We at Safety Pilot are experienced pilots and instructors and we still had to look some of these up! Perhaps the most important skill to possess in this regard is the ability to know where to find chart symbols. For your convenience, a few useful sources are linked below.

    Thanks for watching!

You said you couldn’t find A for aerobatic anywhere… but it’s in the VFR Sectional chart legend. It’s in FAA legends in foreflight.

I knew exactly what the military zone around Rangeley Lake is. Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to disclose what it is. I spent a week up there 20 years ago during a blizzard.

Wow. Crazy some of the things they put on sectionals. As a student I find it a little overwhelming!

Might sound stupid but, when I first saw one of your mock checkride videos I thought it was the same guy pretending to be student and dpe, made by editing the video 😂😂😂

Glider with various characters are defined on page 31 of the Chart guide. A is indeed aerobatic practice area aeronav.faa.gov/user_guide/20230615/cug-complete.pdf
