Instead of getting a new couch, We just got a $40 couch cover. It REALLY upgraded the look of our room. You might consider a couch cover
Thanks, Judy!
I love how you went around your house showing the categories, made it so much fun to watch 🙂 Lots of great ideas!
Thank you, Vera! I'm happy to hear that!
Yes! I subscribed bc of this
Ok this is the best decluttering video I've seen and I've seen a LOT. Down to earth, super common things people hold onto, not pushy, just suggestions. Also, how clean is your house!! Wow!
Gosh, Astrid, thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it!
I completely agree! Such a casual, friendly, and NORMAL voice among all of the other people trying to sound all "proper and higher than thou"!!
Great tips. When I am done painting a room I pour the leftover paint in any jars, such as pickle jars an get rid of the big cans that aren't air tight and tend to rust. It's best to use a jar that fits the amount paint so there is no air and it will last for many years.. I also fill a tiny jar with the same color and keep it in the closet of the room for quick touch ups.
That is a very clever tip!
Good tip. I am going to start doing this due to the fact you can see the color and it is air right.
Glass jars will create lumps or "skins" in the paint.
Most hardware stores sell mini-paint cans. The $3.00 investment will save the paint in a way that will allow it to be used later.
Additionally, paint cans are unbreakable - unlike glass jars.
@@CrazyAuntVal I have successfully stored paint in glass jars for years. Cans have been a disaster. Choosing the contrainer size so it can be full is important.
Omg tysm I needed this tip!!!
I declutter on a very regular basis ...I keep looking for things which no longer give me happiness ... then donate them to others ... I feel so light and relaxed ... my friends are influenced by me and they are doing the same things at their homes ...
Am so glad that there are so many out there like me 😍
I am so happy to hear that! How wonderful that you can be a positive influence on your friends!
Owning the same brand/color of sock has been a game changer for laundry and getting ready in the morning. I don’t have to spend any time sorting or looking for lost pairs. I love how comprehensive this video is. Thanks for the ideas ☺️
I'm glad that sock strategy has worked well for you! Thank you for the kind words!
I buy the puma ones from Costco , love it and it’s easy.
I don't wear socks all that much but my husband's socks drive me crazy. He wears black, navy or dark brown, but mostly black, and has several different brands of each. They are a pain to match up. I'm going to suggest he pick one brand of each color and start phasing out the old ones.
Yes a million times!!! I actually get slightly frustrated when we get socks as gifts because they’re different from what we currently have. My husband on the other hand has a million different pairs and just keeps getting more
This was great. I love that you made this an interesting walkthrough list that wasn't actively counting 1,2,3,...47,48....93...98,99... 😁
I'm so glad to hear that, Maria! Thanks!
Agree, that would have been irritating
Yes Maria, I hate it even if it’s only 10 items would be annoying, like “Ok # 5 #6 and so on and so forth
Seasonal stuff just used once a year...
Looks at my collection of Christmas stuff that’s enough to decorate 3 times my space.... after decluttering it already.
Why am I SO addicted to Christmas pretties!!!! 😂
I am so happy that I decluttered my linen closet down to two sets of sheets for my bed, one extra blanket for cooler weather, two bath towels two hand towels etc. I do have a multitude of wash clothes for make up removal, face washing and showering. Thrilled about it.
That's great, Jackie!
The sheets are good but you might need more than two towels.
Hi, this is the first time I have watched your channel and it was so inspiring. Halfway through the video I paused it and went through my entire kitchen and got rid of anything I hadn't used in the past year. I filled two boxes and I thought I had already decluttered! Thanks for the inspiration and I will look forward to being a regular viewer! Happy New Year!
YES! This is AMAZING! I'm so happy you took action right away, Gail! Welcome to the channel!
Great video, I hope a lot of people find these tips handy!
I find my biggest issue is getting rid of things that can’t be recycled or re-used/donated... I hate sending anything to landfill even when there are no other options left, it’s so frustrating.
Thanks, Christy! I completely relate to that issue! I think that is why preventing the purchase of these items is so important!
Ooo! I love the tip to cut sponges in half! That's genius!
YES! I'm so glad!
This works great with the magic erasers too
It’s as old as the hills!
One point with the cables (I work in tech support). Only declutter the ones you are certain don’t go to something. I can’t tell you how often I have customers who call and literally threw out their charging cable impulsively because of getting into a decluttering mood and forgetting what it was for. I like to keep mine in a decorated box with a lid on a shelf so if I don’t need it right away, I know very quickly where it is and I can find it easily.
Edit: as a trained allied health pro (not working in the field anymore), I know many pharmacies have disposal bins for expired medications. Don’t talk to the staff they may turn you away, just look for a secured bin by the door usually.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing!
Our police department has a special bin (kind of like a mail box) in their lobby. It’s on their website. You just drop unneeded prescriptions in it, no questions asked.
@@frostiethewestie52 Make sure you remove any identifying labels first. No need for tracking LOL.
Hi, I'm EXTREMELY OVERWHELMED with the amount of clutter I have. Hearing you explain it seems simple to do but actually doing is MUCH HARDER. I looked back at your old video of when you had lots of clutter and it's amazing to see where you are today. I pray that 2020 will be the year that I gain the strength & courage to tackle this ENORMOUS TASK. I think PAPER is my most difficult area since I feel the need to keep way too much.
It is really difficult. There are so many different factors that influence the clutter we keep and there can be a lot of uncertainty and pain tied into it. I remember that feeling of being overwhelmed, but remember than anyone who makes progress with anything does it very slowly...often the shortcuts lead to longer roads. I love your plans for 2020!
Scan your paperwork
The Minimalists have a Minimalism Game calendar that could help! You can check off all the things you got rid of that way and it starts with 1 thing on day 1! It’s a snowball effect.
I think the most important thing to do is to just START....it can quickly go from overwhelm to excitement. Some keys are to start small ( just one drawer), start with easy things (not very sentimental risk...ie. food/ spices/ fridge/ or bathroom products). Try to schedule in the time...even if it is only 1/2 hour per week. Start with most commonly used areas of the home like the living room or bedroom ( not including clothes). Leave areas like storage rooms and garages until further along. Don't get 'hung up' on ANY 'RULES'. Do it YOUR WAY! Sounds like you would leave paperwork until later. Manage your expectations..for example, go through an area getting rid of the 'obvious' things that are EASY to get rid of. If you find yourself not being sure and really debating, don't spend too much time thinking about it...error on the side of keeping it and move on. This is how I did it and it really helped me to get a lot of the beneficial feelings/ results and not hit overwhelm. I found later on when I went through the same area again I saw more things I didn't need and I wondered why I thought I needed to keep it the first time ( but I did) it's part of the process. In so many ways it will be easier than you think and then there may be ways that it is harder than you expected..enjoy the journey and BE KIND TO YOURSELF! As one CZcamsr said " it not about the 'Stuff', it's about YOU. So keep YOU in mind during the journey. Just start!
I am doing the minimalism game and it has worked for me. Decluttering was overwhelming for me before because I didn't have a plan with properly sized steps, but tried to do everything at once. (Marie kondo way doesn't work for sentimental hoarders I guess)
Now I have a goal for each day and get to take a picture of and write down my results every day when I'm done. It makes me feel accomplished. I also have a tactique of picking one box, bag or shelf to work on at a time.
This has to be the most researched, intelligent system of decluttering i have ever seen. If following suggestions your home can accomplish the goal of decluttering your home that makes you feel so sensible in getting rid of so much Accumulated clutter, a great watch indeed.
Thank you, Frances! I really appreciate that!
I decluttered couple of things while i was watching this video: couple of baking trays, active clothing and some old jeans. I am sure few more ideas will pop up. Thank you for posting this video!
We have been going to the donation centers almost on weekly basis. I am always exciting to see how the donation box is pilling up. From time to time we also take advantage of the deals from the thrift stores. The easier you get it, the easier you get rid of it if it is not for you.
Well done, Teresa!
I really appreciate your message that this will take time. I just decluttered my shoes and it was great.
That is wonderful! Great work!
I LOVE this! Thank you so much! Extremely helpful!! Shine on!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Ellie! :)

My large apartment was storage for alot of stuff/junk. I used to live in the dream of " im going to need it some day", and the kreativ dream " hey maby i can use it for something else".
Great video! I got lots of great ideas from you today. Thank you! Cannot wait to get rid of some shoes that are nice and were very $$ but they hurt! They will be leaving my closet pronto! Thanks again for taking the time to make these videos.
I'm so happy you were able to get some helpful ideas from the video! Good riddance to those shoes! :)
I love the way you get right to the point. Quick & easy & so very helpful. Absolutely brilliant. I will continue to follow❤ you & watch your other videos. Many thanks.

Well ordered flow of presentation, by going thru the function areas of the house. Well reasoned discussion. Good speaking speed, keeping viewer's attention focused, not at all boring. Avoids being intrusive in other people's home options. Obviously speaks from the wisdom of personal experience in decluttering. Keep vlogging, you're being really informative, truly encouraging. Thanks. Viewing your vlog is time well spent.
Thank you so much, Maria!
Brilliant advice. So nice and practical.
Thank you, Shanti!

Great video and so encouraging! Thank you for your videos.
Thank you, Lucy! You are welcome!
This really inspired me! Great ideas!
That makes me so happy to hear that, Caitlin! Thank you!
I really like the way you filmed this video, Sarah! It's nice to see the examples of certain items from your own home. PS: I did a bunch of decluttering earlier in the month in my bedroom and bathroom (some of which you listed in the video)! It always feels good to only have what you need in your space :)
Thank you so much, Amy! I'm trying to improve my videos! Great work on your decluttering!
Great quick and “ah ha” worthy. I saved the whole thing. I hope to watch once a day to drive myself through the decluttering process. Thank you. Great job.
Thank you, Heidi! I love that plan of one per day! It's a great way to break it up!
I thought it was only us Brits who have a plastic bag full of plastic bags! 😂😜
I think it is quite widespread!
Not me.
Instead, I have a wicker basket full of plastic bags 😀 but I reuse them because I nearly never get them. I have the mesh produce bags and refuse extra bags when possible. In my bathroom garbage bin, I use a smalll bag as a liner, then I just dump the contents into my weekly kitchen bag to take out.
I am fortunate though: I am about 30 metres from a market and about 30 metres in the other direction I have recycling bins for everything else (organic waste, metal, glass, plastic. For paper and cardboard I have bins in the courtyard of my apartment building)
I will be moving back to North America from Europe within the next year, though, so I don’t know if I will be able to be as easily environmentally conscious with my plastic there though.
In California, we have to have a bag of bags in our car because stores are required to charge 10 cents each. Reusing them supposedly saves the planet. But, since COVID, you have to bag your own if you don’t buy the new bags. Craziness IMHO.
We doo always. And we are from Sri Lanka
@@dlroth5357 I got 3 fabric bags/totes in a little zipper bag within my grocery basket and because I always bring my basket when grocery shopping, I always have 3 extra bags with me. And for larger shopping I have a bag in my car that is specifically for the use in a shopping cart because you can clip in into the cart. So handy 💁🏼♀️ just toss a few fabric totes in whatever you carry with you when you go shopping 😊👍🏻
I just live your videos so much! You are so inspiring and I love your easy going personality. Thank you!
You are so kind, Lorelei! Thank you!
thank you for your rapid fire delivery!!! You covered a lot of material in a short time.
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Protein powder scoops. Was literally decluttering my containers drawer as I listened to this
That's awesome!
Thank you. I needed to see this video badly. Its truly motivating. Great job. Thanks again for sharing.
I'm so happy you found the video motivating, Lori! Good luck with your decluttering!
recently got rid of my vhs tapes and old magazines
soo satisfying
YES! That's awesome, Vivian!
This is a great video. Thank you for the helpful, staight-forward advice. As another commenter said regarding tech cables and related items of that nature, don't get rid of them unless and until you are sure you can't use them. I discovered this the hard way a couple of times over the years. Here are a few other tips from my own experience: my mom uses a few old laundry cups as med cups now, having thoroughly washed them first, of course. Also, we have balled up a few old mismatched socks and we use those to help clean the lint trap in the dryer. We also cut up old plain t-shirts and use them as dust rags. I also frequent neighborhood donation bins with gently used items I no longer use. The bins are conveniently located around our city so I can easily take a bag of clothes, shoes, or books to be donated on my way to or from work or while running other errands. This makes it easy to regularly declutter in small amounts. Again, thank you for this helpful video.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for this video! I really appreciate the logic of each point. Reframed the way I thought about things.
I'm really happy to hear that, Lisa! Thank you!
What a great approach! And I love how you made your disclaimers very approachable and friendly.
Thank you so much!
So so helpful! Now I really want to declutter again :D
I'm glad it was helpful!
this is the BEST decluttering video ever ...thank you !!
You're welcome, Cindy!
Thank you ! I just moved to a smaller Home. Got rid of lots before the move, and even some after it ( just took some to donation today ! ). Picked up a great new ( gently used) winter jacket at donation place for twelve dollars which I love & am already wearing. Tomorrow it’s back to donation place w old, similar ( but a bit too small) jacket, and a guitar case I don't use. Still have waaaay too much stuff & resist decreasing my books, CDs, & papers. Working on it tho & purging SOME. I went from a 2 bedroom ( w small office type room, too, & small attic space) to a 1 bedroom with less kitchen cupboards, and some basement storage. Did lots of recycling, throwing out, & donating B4 move & just gotta keep going ! I think I’ll be adding more to my donation haul 2mrw ! It’s very satisfying once I’ve let it go ! Onward !
Keep up the great work!
I love your Chanel so glad I found it .
Aww, thank you so much, Miriam! It is a pleasure to have you here!
Great list! And love your suggestion to choose three or four to tackle first. 👏
I'm so glad!
Thanks so much that was quite helpful!
Yes! I'm so happy to hear that!
So many good ideas to help me continue my decluttering project. This is a great high-level list to use to review a state of progress. I have found that this effort takes years and is not the quick-to-complete project I originally thought it would be. After the new year begins I will be using this to regain steam. Thank you so much!
You are so right that it is a time-consuming process, but I am excited for you to continue making progress in the new year!
Many great tips! You really spoke to me when talking about the toiletries that I buy and then don’t like but still keep around for years because I feel like I should use them anyway.
Thank you, Berniek! I'm happy there were some helpful reminders for you!
I find that women's shelters are happy to get them.
Best decluttering video ever!
I'm so happy to hear that, Sonya!
This is agony to watch in the middle of the night, every little decluttering cell in my body is on full alert and wants to get going! Haha. My body is too tired though, but first thing in the morning...can't wait! 😃👍
Haha you will be ready in the morning! You've got this! :)
@@AbundantlyMinimal Absolutely 🤗 I was on it after my first cup of coffee. Very much thanks to you and this golden video 🙏🥇💕
Excellent video. Even though I’m pretty minimal now it got me thinking of some more stuff to let go of.
I'm so happy to hear that!
I really liked the way you made the video. Thanks for sharing the ideas..
Thank you, Ranjita! I appreciate your kind words!
so good, i have a lot of extra of everything. for me the reason have been my depression. when depressed i am bad st cleaning, washing and so on. then it is good to have many spare clothes, plates and so on. but i noticed that the extra stuff stresses more than it helps, also my husband or any of the kids could help when i feel bad, i have to declutter for me, starting today.
I'm wishing you well and hoping you have gotten help! Even a little extra help at home could make your day easier!
Very efficient video, great job!
Thanks Chris!
This video is so helpful! Thanks!
Yay! I am so happy to hear that, Stefanie!

Your kitchen is lovely!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much.Im new and I really appreciate your videos.Im learning so much.
You are very welcome!
Loved your video n decluttering tips👍
Thank you so much, Devi!
She hit too many key points. Love it!!!!
A very good companion video to help declutter, it feels like you are with me, asking important questions about my stuff. Letting go of things start with letting go of some old habits or ideas. I held on to an address book for 25 years but many of the contacts in them have not been kept up, those persons no longer share my life. After so many years they probably moved and I dont feel I have anything to tell them. The friendship that I have kept over the years are the ones that matter now. I will throw that dress book. Thanks
I'm glad to hear that! Nice work on letting go of the address book!
Great video thanks!
You're so welcome!
Awesome!!! Thank you!!!
You are so welcome!
Done all I think a while ago, been almost always into giving away things, but it never stops it gives a good feeling to minimize, 🤓
It is a great feeling indeed!
Great video
Great tips
I love this video. Very useful 👏
I'm so happy you liked it!
Stayed up late & purged 22 clothing items for donation or consignment after watching this video ! Woo hoo ! I have purged clothes regularly for decades , but needed to again ! Thank you for the inspiration !
YES! You are on a roll!
Great suggestions.
Thank you, Zoell!
Wow, this video speaks volumes to me!!

Excellent list🙋🏼♀️🇦🇺
Decorations that collect dust, you have a point. thank you.
You're welcome!
Best decluttering video evah!
Yay! Thank you!
New subscriber here. I will need to listen to this one again as I was cooking dinner and doing laundry at the same time and certainly missd alot! I believe I received the very gem I needed... at the end... "what in your office space distracts you?" Thanks, for referencing "your purpose" ... we all need that reminder!
Welcome to the channel, Kate! I appreciate your kind words!
Great video! I would love to see a version of this that gives more ideas on how to dispose of things more environmentally friendly! I would love to declutter some items but I’m unsure how to responsibly do it.
Absolutely, Lauren! I have actually made a video like this already: czcams.com/video/Umb6K88sB24/video.html

Thanks for the Tips ❤❤❤ great videos
You are very welcome, Tassi!
Great tips!!!
Thank you so much, Marcy!
Good Suggestions , feels very honest
Thank you, Sunil!
Thanks very informative it helped 👍👍
I'm so glad to hear that!
Second video I’ve seen of yours. So intelligently and thoughtfully put together! I don’t throw anything away, unless it can’t be used or broken down. Really old stuff I donate to Oxfam and that way I know it’s going to serve another purpose. What they can’t sell in their shops or give to charity they recycle into shopping bags etc.
Thank you so much, Michele!
This video was so fun to watch and also very helpful 👍🏻😀
I'm glad to hear it, Julia!
Perfect guide thank you
