    So I know this video is a bit old, but we just bought the T4 Overlander in August 2021. It literally showed up the night before a two week trip in Arizona (north rim Grand Canyon) and Utah. Literally the first night we set it up on the north rim of the Grand Canyon it was broken. A Grommet was popped loose and the top would not pop up. We did a field repair to get us through the rest of the trip. First of all, must say we love this tent and is absolutely amazing. We contacted them when we got home and said we could fix it ourselves properly if we could get the right parts. They had me take a knife to it and destroy it. Two days later we had a brand new tent! Awesome company and awesome tent!!🤘

    Have had my T4 for over a year and haven't had any of the problems you described. Well I did bend a couple of stakes, but I live in Arizona and where I camp can have some hard ground, and I probably don't camp as much as you do. I'm 77 yrs old so the easy set up is great for me. Instead of the 90sec it takes me about 2-3 min. I highly recommend the Gezelle T4 tent...

    Awesome review. Very thorough. I just ordered one of these after reading multiple reviews, and I found yours to be the best of the all. One complaint about the floor I read in a few bad reviews, was that bugs get in at the corners where the poles go though. You video showed the exact solution I thought they were overlooking. I also ordered a footprint to go with the tent. because I've always used one to prevent the micro tears you experienced. The micro tears in the mesh you showed, I've seen on every tent I've ever owned that had it. It appears to just be the nature of that fine, nylon mesh when you use it to store things. Overall, looks like I'll be happy with this, especially with the quick set up/take down due to my spinal injuries.

    We've had our Gazelle T4 tent for two years, and it is still works great in all weather situations: A great Overlanding tent. Want a footprint? Get a heavy duty plastic 8 x 8 tarp to place underneath.

      @alkydah6741 Před 3 lety +4

      Agreed. You can get a tarp for $5 and 6 long 10" steel tent stakes for $4 at Harbor Freight

  • @catherinelukaszewicz7050

    I've had my T4 for over a year now & think it's a great tent. Easy set up. Has held up well with extreme rain over multiple days with one exception - after 4 days of constant hard rain I have some seeping around the hubs on the side. Tent seam sealant won't help since the seepage is where the fabric meets the pole hubs. I did buy the footprint separately after getting a small tear from a pointy rock. I always replace the stakes with better ones on any tent so not surprised about that - in fact the stakes provided are better than most provided with other tents.

  • @thomaslewis1268
    @thomaslewis1268 Před 2 lety +2

    Good review, even though it's a year old. I've had an alpine green T4 for a year, and use it in extremely tough conditions; rain, snow, and wind. I mainly wanted to add some info about its wind resistance, since I didn't see any comments about its limitations. The "tent itself" can withstand 50 mph winds. Even when properly guyed, the windward walls will collapse, but they will pop back out when the gusts subside. If two walls collapse, the roof will also collapse. But, once the walls are pushed out, you simply have to manually pop the roof up again. My point being that the tent will survive and continue to provide shelter even in 50 mph winds. The "tent fly", however, is the Achilles heel of the system. A 50 mph wind will rip the fly right off the tent. In my situation, the wind got under the fly and broke two of the bungee tie downs, and as the fly started to blow away, broke one of the fiberglass rods. I was able to run outside and grab the fly before it blew away (and I was able to repair the rod and replace the bungee tie downs for the duration of my trip). But, my suggestion is that you not deplay the fly if you expect the wind gusts are going to be above 30 mph. When I got home from this trip, I ordered a replacement fiberglass rod, plus a new rainfly. So, I now travel with a spare fly.

    100 % correct - I leave my T4 in my Lexus LX470 ( 2nd and 3rd row seats removed) with it just riding in my truck, the bag has a couple holes in it. I tried the stakes once....just toss them or use for emergency back ups and buy better stakes. Also, I use adjustable bungees to wrap the tent tighter before sliding it into the bag. There's alot of fabric and it gets a little fussy when the wind is kicking. (I've owned this tent for about a year so the new versions may not have these issues)

  • @BBBYpsi

    I also have lived in Michigan my whole life. Best tent I ever had was a tent from Northwestern Territory & had that easy tent set up. Unfortunately it got stolen when my place was robbed. But I used it for many years & not a single problem, no tears, leaks...... Went up in about 2-3 minutes & about 4-5 minutes to tear down & repack it in its bag. It was called the easy up tent. It was 9.5 X 11. Perfect for three people & at 5'10 1/2 inches at the time I could almost stand straight up in it (I believe it was 5'6" high inside. Broke my heart to find out they stopped making them. Now I see some of the tents using some of the same technology they were using back in the late 1990's early 2000's. But I feel the quality of stuff made back then was far better than the garbage of today.

      I've got a T3 that I've been using almost everyday since the end of June 2020, and for the most part I like it. However, I camped on the Alvord Desert in Oregon for 2 wks., and experienced a dust storm that ruined the no-see-um door's zippers (not YKK). Also, dust blew up under the rainfly and absolutely coated everything in the tent. So if you expect to be in a dust storm, ever, get a 4 season tent.
      I filed a warranty claim, and the company has agreed to replace it... around the end of Nov-Dec, because they don't have any in stock.
      The customer support guy implied that the replacement will be a "redesigned T3", but somehow didn't know if it would have YKK zippers.

    -does the gazelle tent fit four bed cots? For four adults ?
    -in terms of camping : I like having a gazebo type system and then just sleep there. ..meaning a large spacious space, which is why I like the gazelle ….Barring camping in cold climate etc..isn’t possible to just have a gazebo type set up and then just sleep in it? Maybe just add walls during the night
    Not sure if that makes sense

    Great video review. I’ve been chewing on whether or not to buy the T4 Alpine or the overland edition all week. The biggest hang up for me that I just can’t shake is that the overland edition is only available in that orange color and not the alpine green. Why they would do that is ridiculous to me. The overland is $349 on their site. To purchase the Alpine green T4 with the add ons of the stakes, footprint, and overland bag (still only orange) comes out to $414.96! I hate that I’ll have to pay an additional $60 just to get the color I want but in the long run it may still be worth it after watching your review.

    Hi Matt, thanks for the review of the tent. I only became aware of them today after scrolling through CZcams. I thought you might be interested in using different pegs that are screwed into the ground by a portable drill. I tried them over the Christmas break and they make putting the camper trailer and awning so much easier than trying to bang in tent pegs. Cheers.
    By the way I’m in australia so I’m not sure where you would get these pegs in America but if we have them I’m sure you could source them as well

    Thanks for the video very informative. I had a couple of quick questions. Would this tent be suitable for two people and two oversized single carts with the small table like 3 ft.² and storage for clothes etc. I’m 6 foot tall and I know the height should be plenty but I wonder if the width which I guess is about 8‘ x 8‘ would be enough room. Normally, I hear you should at least double the size of the tent for the number of people.we also have a 12 dog so need to have space for her small bed.. thanks in advance.. also some concern about a spot to put wet shoes etc since there is no awning?

    Liked the review. Just bought the tent. I didn’t get a ground cover with mine or better stakes. They recommend guying the tent it to the stakes but that seems to close to the tent to do any good. Where did you get your stakes and hammer? Thanks again.

    Hi Matt, I love all your videos as they are helping me decide what to buy and what to pass on. Quick question ... do you prefer the gazelle tent or the Darche wall setup ... are they equally priced ??
    thanks Mike

    • @MWDAdventures
      @MWDAdventures  Před 3 lety

      The Darche walls are definitely more expensive. If I could only do one, I would probably go with the Gazelle tent. The tent is quicker to setup and less expensive to replace if it gets damaged.

    • @MWDAdventures

      It might be a challange with getting it out of the bag but pulling it open would be ok. Stepping on the fabric and pulling out the sides is easy.

    The only concern I have is with the removable floor. does is make it easier for unwanted guests (mice, snakes, etc.) to come in?

    • @MWDAdventures
      @MWDAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      We have not had any issues like that. We only un-velcro a small area to sweep out the dirt and put it back together. I have heard people complain it is hard to re-velcro the floor well if you take it off completely.

    • @davidclt
      @davidclt Před 2 lety +1

      Only problem I found was on sites that had a lot of earwigs, they found a way to get in, not happy with that, still like the tent, I own a T 4plus will try to reseal the velcro joints with tarp tape since I'm not intending to remove the floor, only leaving the corners where the vertical poles get inserted vulnerable and front entrance bottom part of the zipper.

    For their price point Gazelle should come through with some quality pegs! This is disappointing as we like the look of the set up. We have always set a tarp down under any tent and also have a section of short nap carpet for the inside floor, this method keeps you warm, dry and protects your tent floor. Also waterproof all seams every season and no water will get in on the floor.

    • @MWDAdventures
      @MWDAdventures  Před rokem

      They have come out with better stakes (pegs) since we did this review. We are very happy with the quality of Gazelle products.

  • @jbsherrod

    Hi, and thanks for the great 1 year review. After another year of use, how satisfied are you with the Gazelle in HOT and WINDY conditions? I am looking for a tent to camp in while attending sailing events. Most are held in the middle of hot Texas summers. I know to stake any tent well, but it would be un-attended while I was sailing. So, concerned if Gazelle is worse than usual for wind.

    • @MWDAdventures
      @MWDAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      You have to stake it out more then normal in wind other wise the sides are going to cave. A simple line to the center of each hub will take care of that.
