  • Thx 4 watching!
Notes: The PS2 I disassembled in this video is the 39001 model.
The laser assembly on the 50000 models are slightly different, but you should be able to figure it out. Also, the clock battery is in a different place on the 30000 and 30000R models. Otherwise, the rest of the innards are the same on all of the fat PS2 models.
Please remember to leave a like, leave a comment, and subscribe!!!! Mosh hard!!! :D

Thanks man. A lot of people don’t include the reassembly part in their videos, and they don’t always completely strip it down to the motherboard. My frustration over this caused me to make this, and now it’s my most viewed video.

The PS2 is very easy to take apart compared to the Xbox and Gamecube. No propriety screws, just standard Philips head.

  • @CaptainSlowbeard

This saved my PS2 and my sanity... was following another video which was fine until reassembly. I assume they got bored with the process as there was hardly any voice over, the jump cuts skipped over steps (particularly reinserting ribbons and screws). I literally could not understand what they were doing, despite having just took mine to pieces. Tried a couple of others and hit the same problem, or that they owned some obscure variant model that bears no resemblance to mine.
Just the fact you took the time to point out things like which screws are brass, and explicitly said what you were doing as you did it ("flip the console over", "now put the shield back") made a huge difference - the latter point means I could actually look at my PS2 instead of having to keep my eyes glued to the screen and keep pausing.
As I've got older I've started to appreciate the saying "If you're going to do something, do it properly" - this is how tear down videos should be done.
I've now got my original console up and running after cleaning everything, including the laser lens. It looks brand new and having as much fun playing on it as when I first bought it back in 2001.
    You're a legend, cheers!

Other than that ribbon bit at the very end having your hands in front of the camera (I had to keep clicking back to the beginning of that step a solid six times), this was a spectacular guide. I'm only complaining because this took me a wHILE-- I'm not necessarily great with these things, so this took me a few hours. Admittedly *that* is because I had to dust out just...CLUMPS of dust matter, air it, scratch the fan so it went from brown back to black...all that fun stuff.
TL;DR, my back says ow, but my heart says thank you. It's time to see if I didn't fail miserably...see if my games work on it again. Fingers crossed!
    Thank you soooooooooooooo so much.

Great guide! Was able to disassemble, clean and replace the battery in my PS2 with this video. Most videos do not cover the reasembly so that was very helpful. Some notable later model changes: There are variations in the disc drive (more difficult to remove the tray), orientation of the power supply is flipped and the power/eject ribbon cable is attached to the motherboard instead of the top shell. Easy to workaround though. Thanks!

Recently my fat PS2 console had about 3 problems, the CMOS battery died, the disc tray was opening slower and the inside of my console was very dusty inside. I took apart my PS2 console and it took me about 5 days to disassemble it all the way just so I could replace that annoying CMOS battery with a new one, I also dusted the circuit board with a soft worker paint brush, Q tip and the fan and then when I put it back together, my disc tray got stuck and wouldn't open and then I had to take it apart the second time when I fixed it I forgot to connect the laser reader ribbon cable so I had to take it apart the third time and then when I finally put it back together, my disc tray worked, the spinning orb animation and clock and date worked and it read my PS1 game.
That was a very intense repair job I've ever done and my first one I ever took apart because it's getting harder to find PS2 consoles. I hope the Sony Playstation company will decide to reissue the PS2 slim consoles so we can play the older PS1 and PS2 and DVD and CD discs and even bring back PS1 and PS2 disc games which I hope happens soon.

Just check the region coding, see if it’s listed for the correct region (for you it’d be NTSC U/C or end in 1 for 30001), and you should be good.

    • @FlyingV555
      @FlyingV555  Před 4 lety

Avaliando Coisas this is an adhesive pad that attaches onto the chips on the board to absorb excess heat. If it’s dry and crumbling like you said, you will probably have to either buy a new piece of metal shielding with the adhesive pads intact (look on eBay and search “ps2 parts”) or buy another PS2 (also on eBay). Do not use the system without the pads unless you play like 15 minutes at a time.

Its just the expansion bay cover. You don’t need a hard drive to use a PS2. You just need a memory card to save your data.
Some of the covers have a metal piece in them while others don’t. Can’t explain why.

Hey. I need help regarding my PS2. I m facing this problem for the first time. It was working pretty well last month. I will list all problems. If there's any question regarding then please ask. Here's what issues I started facing:
    1. There is no display. When I connect the PS2 and turn on the power button from the back. The reset button shows the red light. I then click on it and then the Green and Blue lights turn on. The fan at the back starts working. The disc tray is also working, but there is no display.
    2. After clicking on reset multiple times it then starts to display but the start-up music is out of order. The sound gets hanged. The controller is working (i can enter to and go back from browser and system configuration ). If I click on the reset button again then there won't be any display again. Same issue. And if it displays (after resetting many times) and then when I insert any CD. Loading gets hanged, and if the game works out of the blue moon then there is no sound.
Would be happy for the reply. Thanks.

That’s a lot of problems. The fact that it had all those problems in succession, something is up. Have you dropped it or gotten water in it? Have you had a power outage recently? Wanna make sure that you actually take care of it and not just throw it around.
