Folie a Deux - " a rare psychiatric syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief, and sometimes hallucinations, are "transmitted" from one individual to another."
Or the easy translation, Madness shared by two
@@sophiecooper1824it’s a lot like gravity, all it needs is a little push.
@@cmrobbins88guess you could say all you need is one bad day?
@@sophiecooper1824 easier easier translations "Shared Delusion"

Todd Phillips smoked his haters with this trailer 😳😳
Facts!
The subtitle is French for "madness of two". It's also a psychological term to describe two mentally ill people who are associated with each other that share the same delusions. I first heard the term on "Criminal Minds". It looks like the musical numbers are part of Arthur and Harley's shared delusional states. I saw someone describe it as looking like a musical only in the sense that the music is part of the delusions rather than characters bursting into song during all types of scenes.
"Joker: Madness of Two" would've been way better
That's where I heard the term from. Criminal minds
@@MaxMarrinerNo!

*"The world is a stage, and all the men and women are players..."*
William Shakespeare

"The world is a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment" That's Entertainment
I believe it was Shakespeare who once said, "The world is a stage, and all the men and women are players...'
Don't forget guys that this is an elseworlds story, none of which are "re-tellings" of anything. They are all original stories with original characters. Every time. You like it or dislike it based on that. Then you're either glad it is its on thing or you wish it was part of the main universe.
Not to mention the Todd Philips interview where he talked about Bruce Wayne being a kid in this timeline, he mentioned joker not actually having a backstory and the whole multiple choice thing saying as far as where this character is going "you don't know, maybe he's the inspiration for the person that would actually later become the joker"
Well explained
@@dal1947 I thought that was a possibility as well. What if their child is the one that actually becomes the classic Joker? Another twist is that they could be leading people to believe Gaga's character is Harley, but it's clear she's an inmate, not a doctor. So what if she actually dies at the end, and when Arthur returns to Arkham his psychiatrist looks a lot like her, so in his madness he seeks to turn Dr. Quinzel into the woman he lost...
@@darkwyve both those ideas sound really good
Actually Gunn said this won't be under the Elseworlds banner but rather it's own stand alone film(s)
Already a Oscar nominated movie 🔥💯
"All it takes is one bad day... and a muscial..." 😈🤡
It looks brilliant - with perhaps the musical bits being all in their minds - as they 'get out of here'. A great non-traditional approach to a tent pole movie. We'll see.
I was wondering if they were going to go the Chicago route where it was in their heads.. it works the best.
Very _Dancer in the Dark_ vibes yes. Also, there was also the scene in _The Suicide Squad_ when Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn lets loose on the guards and she imagines the rain of bullets as flowers, which was another case of her madness being expressed through fantasy.
Folie a Deux actually is a medical condition that means "shared allution"
Okay as soon as I saw the Umbrellas of Cherbourg reference I thought "dammit I might have to go see this"
(Jay, if you've never seen Umbrellas of Cherbourg, just do so right now please thank you)
Thanks for letting the rest of us know. It's on Max
@@unclehollywoodshouseofther995Slightly different but from the same director, The Young Girls of Rochefort is also fantastic. It's more of a standard musical akin to Singing in the Rain, but it goes to some dark places and it's full of genuine bangers.
Yep. That made me smile since I really love The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.
Absolute must see. Then see 'Young Girls of Roquefort' also made by Jacques Demy a few years later. You'll then be able to trace the lineage to La La Land and then possibly to this movie.

I can’t believe how incredible this movie looks
So why do i feel like this movie is going to hurt my feelings and make me cry.
"Weaponised whimsy" - think you've nailed it, there. Can't wait
Saw your guy’s original Joker trailer reactions and came back to see this one. 5 years!
The part with the Lip Stick at the end was amazing
Not really. Schindler's List is amazing. Awakenings is amazing. Tommy Cooper's execution of comedic timing, Judi Dench's acting, Ian McKellen's acting, Freddie Mercury's singing. This was just a red line on a bit of glass and a great actor smiles while his face is just in the right place. It does its's job, but it's far from amazing.
i always thought my life was a tragedy, but now i realize, its a musical
You're more right about this movie than what people realise I feel.
The first movie - IMHO most people didn't understand it at all. Joker is not a villain in it. He's a HERO. He's oppressed by society. Like all of us. And throughout the movie he breaks though that oppression and becomes who he truly was meant to become: a serial killer. But the message is the same - follow your dreams, fuck society. Even if you need to kill people to achieve it (don't worry, you'll kill the "right" people - those who deserve it - that's whom Joker kills at first). This is why it's such an important and subversive movie.
And the musical out of it - that is probably another method to send the message. Fuck your comic book society - if I feel like making a Joker musical, I will. After all, Joker is a hero and deserves to be celebrated.
Most likely this movie will flop at the box office. But it will be a GREAT inspiration to all *truly* oppressed people out there just like the first movie.
My friend who was in and out of mental institutions against her will since she was a teenager - she cried SO much during the first ten minutes of the movie she had to leave the theater since she couldn't handle it anymore. Todd Phlips and Juaqin Phoenix are geniuses!

To all those who are out there going "WTF it's a MUSICAL?!?" I have two words: Unreliable. Narrator.
The fact that’s it’s been a musical has been advertised ever since Joker 2 was announced. I really don’t get why some people are surprised. Especially when you have Lady Gaga in the mix.
WHAAAAAT?! UNRELIABLE NARRATOR? WOAAAH MY MIND IS BLOWN! HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THAT?!
This looks so wild, I can't wait.
His physical transformation for this role is commendable. And the music❤❤❤!
Like Jay, I was skeptical, but I think this is enough to peak my interest. It's a HAVE to see for me now. I wonder how much of this is in their minds and how much is reality?
Can’t wait! Musical therapy is a beautiful choice to bring in the musical elements of this film. The umbrella colors matched his suit colors from the first film.
well Gaga costs a ton of money and Phoenix said after the 1st one is a one off so they needed lot of dump trucks of money to convince him
@@TK_Brainslug what does that have to do with what I said? They had the budget and it clearly looks like they did it properly. Musical therapy is a beautiful choice. Joaquin said him and Todd came together during Covid and agreed to do a sequel with the right script….they gave him the right script.
@@TK_BrainslugJoaquin said the first movie is a one off but that he'd return if the script was good enough
I'm french and you got the sub-title right (the first time at least) 😂😂
I think the best phrase to describe how it feels to watch the Joker is mesmerizing, in the same way snakes mesmerize their prey. Based on the teaser trailer, I expect the same from this film. Also, it is refreshing to watch a film made by a director, crew, and cast, all of whom respect the source material. We've all seen and despaired what happens with the opposite.
That final shot tho was just.... *chefs kiss*
Weaponized Whimsy is such a beautiful descriptor, for something that is one of the most wide spread phobias for people. Clowns are such near and dear terrors among human culture, and these films distill the essence of why.
Ive never had a trailer make my stomach feel unsettled before! This is going to be amazing
Unsettled? Really???😂😂😂😂😂

Whether it's good or bad, you can't deny they're swinging for the fences on this one.
Hey guys! As a french Canadian I appreciate your attempt at french and it was really good honestly! You did great! Also, without being too weird... Adam, you sound really, really good in french :P
merci.
I dunno how many people know the series/movie "Pennies From Heaven" but this is very much the same kind of thing. The main character is going through a lot of depressing stuff in the real world and often escapes into scenes of musical fantasy. It's a really interesting dramatic device, honestly.
Didn’t make that connection at all. It’s a great one. I was thinking Three-penny Opera (i.e. Mac the Knife)
5:50 man that dude on the left has a beautiful way with words... its poetic.. i subscribed x
for me, visually and the cinematography was insane good with this trailer. so exited
Something I said to a buddy of mine who still has trouble reckoning with such an evocative film about such a terrible person that also doesn’t have Batman in it:
'Joker' is like watching the origin of how Gotham got so f**ked up that it NEEDED a Batman in the first place. We see Joker create a world that allows us to have Batman.
This is like the origin story for the origin story.
There's going to be 17 popular songs that isn't original from scratch like a standalone musical. So, not every scene will be musical, just certain parts. So, I'm actually excited about this! Now, that I understand what Joker 2 is actually going for and I'm there for it
This’ll be something amazing.
Loved the first movie ... this looks weirder and I'm not sure how I feel about it, but that last scene with the red smear on the glass and him slowly lining up his smile with it was fantastic!
"I'm in, and I need to come to terms with that." I know what you mean Jay! I went from, 'oh Joker 2's the only DC movie out this year? That's nice, now tell me more about Superman,' to watching the teaser and now being really hyped for it.
this movie is from dc's arthouse alternative to earth prime. no capes? no problem. 😄
Not a DC fan to be honest but this looks great! Joker and Harley Quinn fall in love and go hard musically.
I wonder if Bruce Wayne makes a cameo in this and sings "I am Blue" 😏
Such a well crafted scene at the end with the lipstick!
I AM SO STOKED FOR THISSSSS
"Beautiful"
A fractured mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Love the trailer and your reaction. Peace!
Given how the Joker/Harley relationship has become a poster-child for abusive relationships, it's interesting that the trailer appears to be more of a meeting of minds.
Yeah. Very Big change. Hello, ive Even Heard rumours that Harley might Even be the abusive one
@@hecrosegreat3943if so, honestly that’s a way of looking at the characters I dont think we’ve seen before, so I might be fine with that if its good
@@owenbridgers me too. It's kinda mindblowing to think about
@@hecrosegreat3943Arthur is probably the most sympathetic version of Joker to exist, so it makes sense why their relationship would be different.
I mean the beginning of their relationship is Harley obsessing with Joker, so they kinda got that right, then later on it evolves into abuse
Your faces as this trailer ended were the best possible reaction.
I think this is going to be a fantastic movie
This Harley will probably be more like the telltale version
its hard to put into words how much the first movie changed my life. the 2nd one feels like the exact same thing. for anyone who has lived in a mental hospital or rehab centers honestly just cant put it right. but music therapy is such a real and beautiful thing for people who struggle with keeping reality solid and when they said they were bringing in Gaga we knew exactly what this meant.... this was going to be the two of them on the same wave length of crazy losing themselves in love and the truly horrific consequences im sure of that. because in mental hospitals people should NOT fall in love. the moment one has a set back the other does too and then they self sabotage in the most gorgeous of ways. its them finding people that see them and except them in the worst parts of themselves.
My heart melted! So hyped for this. They’re gonna be phenomenal in this
The feeling I have watching this trailer is the same I had when Joker ended. You need time to process what you not only just watched but “experienced”. When Joker ended, my niece and I just looked at each other stunned and we were silent on the drive home from the theater. It took some time to absorb Joker…I think part duex is going to be the same.
It would be awesome if he won another best actor Oscar for this film .
It's a profound silence, one of retrospect, and analyzation, totally understood.
Jay's explanation is the best I have ever heard on how we feel. Like we do have to accept this dark journey and our enjoyment of it which makes us question ourselves.
yeah. . . . I think I still need to see more before I commit to going to see this. Right now it could still go either way. It really depends upon what exactly they mean by "musical."
this trailer is so good and this looks phenomenal, they both look awesome in it
The subtitle is not a musical term, it's a psychology term. It means "madness of two", which is a French term for a shared delusion. As in, one delusional person convinces someone else of their delusion so they both believe it.
This is definitely just a tin, tasty, morsel of a teaser. It gives nothing away about the plot beyond "Joker meets Harley and they live together in their delusional world while the real world burns around them". Which surprisingly is not much 😂 I'm hyped for it, for sure.
My favorite part of Harley's character is the juxtaposition between brilliant psychiatrist and batshit insane. If she's an inmate here, they may be removing her psychiatry background; but I hope they at least keep some of that contrast between brilliance and insanity. Also, can we all admit that Lady Gaga looks *amazing* in that red suit as she's walking through the crowd? Thanks, yes, thanks.
10/10
Great reaction guys !
It’s like a weird hallucination in Jokers mind, and it turns into this chaotic dream with real world consequences. It’s kind of messed up but perfect for these characters.
Since i speak french i can say Adam did say it rigth. Not bad for the first try!:)
i loved the dude on the left's reactions. the raised brows in shock, the twitchy smirk in amusement, and right before the glass lips scene it was almost like he forgot to breathe until that moment, and that deep breath leading into that shot, truly UMAMI!
If you understand the name of the movie and you remember how first movie was, then You already can guess the movie plot Somewhat...
THe cinematography looks amazing, artful. And I love trailers like this cause it makes me want to watch it without giving me the whole movie. I think this movie is going to be a roller coaster
I think the first Joker movie and now its sequel are a perfect example of how Comic book characters can be uniquely interesting outside of big star studded action sequences. I am undoubtedly burned out on Comic book movies but this feels so far from that genre that I’m hooked to see it in theaters
‘menacing whismsy’ is literally my dream movie LMAO
Don't jnow why but the trailer made me feel sad. Almost tearing up.
Maybe the music, the concept or something I can't explain
It seems like they're attaching this to music therapy which elevates the conceit considerably. Also, I agree with you that the original stood on its own. I didn't want a sequel. But this looks good.
a). i started singing "Folies Bergère" from NINE. b). i watched this trailer a GOOD few times c). i legit think Harley's going to kill Arthur in the end of it all [like that shot in her red outfit going up the court stairs]. i'm ready.
Weaponized whimsy… hit the nail on the head with that one because that’s exactly the vibe of these
Where’s you get the shield from ?
"I used to think my life was a tragedy... now i realise, its a fucking romance"
is it "confirmed" that its a full on musical movie? like les miserables?
So they made me watch the teaser for this before
I got to watch the reaction for the teaser for this. Thanks CZcams
I had no idea they were making this movie
I have settled on Full-a-ducks as the correct pronunciation.
Oh this is gonna be GOOD 👌🏾👏🏾 i love the potential of this movie. Because we all know Joker is insane. What if Harley/Gaga isnt there at all or if she's his therapist. They could go SO many ways.
It looks incredible
Jay & Adam left speechless again lol.
You guys must both have been just a bit too young for The X-Files. There was a memorable episode on the show called Folie a Deux. You guys did fine with the pronunciation, by the way. That's where I first heard of it.
It's a real psychological term. It occurs when two people share the same delusion. Usually one convinces the other.
It’s JAY and ADAM and it’s fcking previewed!!! And we fcking love them!!
I'm surprised that Jay didn't rate it Deux out of Deux Lips. LOL
The last scene is literally, let me put a smile on your face. 😌
I've seen this described as "Demented Lala Land"
I feel like Harley is the psychiatrist because at the end of the trailer, she seems like his psychiatrist. I imagine joker is seeing her around the asylum in his head
Haha, you guys didn't grasp what is going on. This is gonna be brilliant 👏
So excited for this!
You want to hate it. And it's going to be spectacular. Its Joker. Its Harley. It's going to be psychologically intense. And I'm here for it.
This might be the 1st musical movie I may watch.
Joker with that white suits was pure perfection ❤
Folie à deux means delusion or mental illness shared by 2 people who are in close contact with each other. Harlequin, in the end, turns this is showing how it happened joker was the reality 2 is the fantasy
Curious to find out how the production budget alone went from $60-70m on the first movie to $200m for this sequel?!
I'm going to guess some of that is paying Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga a truckload of money. I'm also guessing the music rights were probably very expensive.

"Holy cow, the trailer for "Joker - Folie a Deux" is great! Already I'm predicting that Gaga and Phoenix will win an Oscar, possibly for cinematography and directing as well, and more nominations are guaranteed. Personally, I wonder if anyone has ever won an Oscar for the lead role of the same character. But Phoenix will definitely win an Oscar for his role as the Joker."
The buzz for the trailer for "Joker - Folie a Deux" is truly rousing! Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix certainly make a dynamic duo, and their performances in this trailer are simply mesmerising. It wouldn't be surprising if they were both rewarded with an Oscar for their outstanding performances. Joaquin Phoenix's interpretation of the Joker is so convincing that it could well be that he makes history and wins another Oscar for the same iconic character. The anticipation is high and the accolades would be more than deserved for this talented duo.
Harley's backstory in the original animated show was honestly already really dark and gritty. The follow up, Mad Love, from that series is straight up a story of domestic abuse that ends with the incredibly dark note that no matter how much she wants to; Harley mentally can't escape the grip he has on her. Assuming the version of Harley in this movie is actually Harley, and I think it's possible she's just in Joker's head, I hope they don't lose the abusive angle of their dynamic. The last thing I want to see is the Hot Topic version of Harley and Joker that portrays them as actual soul mates.
I don't think Harley will be a doctor in this one... I also think she is going to be the dominant in this version. She will be the manipulator and will draw it out of Arthur or be the one feeding his delusion.
The tension of putting a la la land vibe but from DC...with the schizophrenic relationship of the joker and gaga's harley. 🙏🤡😍🚬🚬♦🃏
As a Canadian I must say the French spoken is cute
That being said this sequel trailer hints at a fun trip the director and crew will be taking us on
