- Nickelodeon Studios was a television taping studio as well as an original family attraction at Universal Studios Florida, which opened on June 7, 1990, and closed on April 30, 2005. In this video we take a look at the history of the first channel for kids and its rise in popularity, the channel’s success leading to the creation of the world’s first kids headquarters, and the studios’ decline and closure.

This made me want to cry. When I was a kid I always wanted to go to Universal Studios. I never got to experience it. Now, my 27 and finally got around to visit Universal Studios, although Nick is gone. This was my childhood. I’m thankful for the memories from watching all the tv shows growing up.
Same!
Yall should check out adamthewoo on CZcams to actually see the inside of the Nick studios because he actually toured the whole site AFTER it closed but BEFORE it was totally renovated!
I feel the same, though I'm older.
If it wasn't for these new stupid brainwashing cartoons and dumb movies like Harry potter, jurassic world and minions taking over everything we'd still have nick studios. I'm grateful enough to have experienced it twice as a kid. Seen guts, legends and double dare live. Also got slimed. It was a glorious time.
@@RKellysHiddenVideoCamera wow!! That was my dream to attend all the shows plus getting slimed!! Definitely a childhood dream.
I remember going there in 95. My bro and i begged our parents to take the tour. I'm so glad they said yes because the next time we were able to go to universal, Nickelodeon was gone.
Really was a place you had to visit if you were growing up at the time, all of my friends wanted to go but never had the chance to.
Keenan and kel was my childhood. " who loves Orange soda? " " kel loves Orange soda "
WELCOME TO GOOD BURGER, HOME OF THE GOOD BURGER CAN I TAKE YOUR ORDER?
@@ThemeParkHistory It's like your reading my mind man. No wonder I love watching these videos. There so informative and interesting
Who wasn't quoting Keenan & Kel as a kid in the 90's? Thanks for the kind words BigNath, appreciate it!
@@ThemeParkHistory It's the truth as well. You really go in depth with the story. It's like you leave no stone unturned. I love that. Your really good at this. Hope to see more amazing videos from you kind sir.
“Fresh out the box stop look and watch
Ready yet get set it’s all that!”❤️😎
I knew I’d see AdamTheWoo in here!
He always is going on adventures for us, he doesn’t even ask our moms!
Really like his videos! It's a shame he was banned for Universal Studios Florida because of the Nickelodeon videos, hopefully they let him back in one day.
Aww $h!t Son
When I was little I always wanted to go Nickelorion studios
Did you ever had the chance to go?
I want to go to nickeloden studios but I was born September 29th 2004 but I didn't know that there was a nickeloden studios and I wach nickeloden on 2010
This was my favorite Abandoned place. So sad to see it go and turned into just an office space
What hurts even more is knowing that for almost 7 years after its closure it was still preserved with the murals and equipment intact.
@@ThemeParkHistory Just like how the _Hey Dude_ [czcams.com/video/9AaiQVAG0gQ/video.html ] Bar None Ranch set was left to the elements of nature after the on-location show with supposed "man-eating jackrabbits & killer cacti" ended. ~Snare Drum beat from Buddy, with Jake's coyote howling, per the credits: czcams.com/video/XRVa60bcA8w/video.html ~
I love how you added that sad song from “Hey Arnold” that was a nice touch.
Someone finally noticed! It felt like it set the mood when we were talking about the closure.
Bentley's Enigma online Nickelodeon
If I could only watch one CZcams video a month, it would be definitely Theme Park History.
Good thing you don't have too! 😂Thank you Brodey! We appreciate the support for the channel!
When I heard the 'Pinwheel' theme I knew I would like the episode. Good choice.
Can't talk about Nickelodeon or Nickelodeon Studios with Pinwheel, it's responsible for the channel we knew back in the 90's.
@@ThemeParkHistory and the 80's! I grew up in Columbus and loved Paddington and You Can't Do That on TV.
Thank you for doing this one! I watch a lot of these theme park videos and I couldn’t find another channel that covered Nick Studios and I was beginning to think I had imagined it 😂
it’s honestly really sad to see this go, yes Nick will never be as amazing as Disney (Personal Opinion), but it’s sad to see such an amazing studio go, and to see that barely any of it remains. great video! love these :)
It's like Universal and Disney. While Universal isn't as great as Disney, it's different and unique enough to stand out and offer something different. Nickelodeon was awesome back in the day between the game shows, sitcoms and Nicktoons there was something for everyone one. Thanks for watching Sabrina!
At that particular time Nick was more amazing than Disney to me. There was just so much content on a nightly bases that no matter how much I loved The Lion King and Aladdin, Nick held most of my childhood.
Nick will never be as amazing as Disney because it’s not Disney. One does not have to have the same goodness as the other. All of them can be Amazing in their own way.
Nick was a million times more amazing then Disney. Wouldn’t expect someone named kayden to understand. F ing millennials
@@davidcollins248 y r u so aggressive? jesus christ dude. going after someone’s name WOW you really got me there. also i’m not a millennial lmfao good try though. have a wonderful day!
Thanks for bringing back great memories! Back in 1993, my sister got to particpate in one of the game shows and I watched her from the audience. I don't remember a lot (since I was three), but I had my picture taken on the Blues' Clues thinking chair!
Wonderful video keep it up! I'd love to see you cover the Ghostbusters show!
Thats what brought me to this video lol. When I was a kid my aunt and I participated in a little game show. Trivia questions about all the shows. We lost but thank god cuz the winner got a pie to the face lol. My mom and sister were in reptar costumes catching treats too lmao. Damn, the beautiful memories.
Reptar bars* not treats lol
There was no blues clues in 1993 .... I got asked to do the game show but I was pretty young and opted to stay with my dad
I have never been to Nickelodeon universe
This video brought back so many memories. Tear in my eye!
It bing backs memories of a simpler time, where instead of having to get up early for work I was getting up early so I wouldn't miss any of the shows. I wish I could be a kid again. 😭
This was such a nostalgia trip. I went there was I was 6/7 years old for the first time. I still have so many pictures of it. I’m so glad I was able to see this again and remember all the amazing memories I have of it. Thanks. :)
My only memory of going there was in 2001 while it was still standing. I saw the slime geyser outside, and my family and I went straight to the game lab, where they were doing Family Double Dare. My older brother actually was one of the kids who got picked to participate. Afterward, we took some pictures of the Nicktoon cutouts. It was a special moment in my life being a Nickelodeon kid.
Since you mentioned it, how about a video about Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast?
Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast has been added to the list, thank you for your suggestion Justin.
@@ThemeParkHistory You're welcome. I thought I could throw it in because of my love for Nickelodeon and the fact that my sister grew up in the 90s and loved watching the original Nick Toons.
Thanks for the awesome content man! I love hearing about the history of the theme parks that have meant so much to me growing up. Keep up the good work!
I know it’s going to be a great day when Theme Park History uploads!
I worked there about 20 years ago. Amazing, wacky experience....especially when you are shooting a live show with tours watching you through the glass in almost every single room including the control room, the studios, costume department, slime lab, etc...
It definitely look like it was a crazy experience but worth it! What did you do while working at the studios?
Theme Park History Production I was an intern/production Assistant for the Games and Sports network (GaS). At the time they were just beginning to wind down productions in Orlando. We actually had to come up with the ideas for Game Lab and were the original Guinea pigs to see if the physical challenges were even possible before moving the ideas to the tour.
I loved GaS! I would watch that channel immediately when I got home from school everyday. Shame it isn't around anymore, those game shows were awesome. Did you actually have to try the physical challenges out or did you just come up with the ideas?
We would have to try out the physical challenges as well as come up with new ideas. We needed to test them to make sure they were even possible first. They ranged from the really simple to really absurd. I remember pitching things like bouncing a ball on a tennis racket 30 times in 30 seconds which I then had to show them was possible. Another one was a race vs another team to swap giant clothes with a teammate which were absurdly big and difficult (giant overalls and boots). It was part of the job along with getting extras for the tv shows, running the green room, clapping during the shows and hyping up the crowd, and all grunt work inbetween.
The GaS set (now the last rows of the Blue Man Group Audience) had a bowling alley that was non automated. Guess who had to pick up the pins after every roll? Another cool thing was we had Hydro Thunder Arcade game on set along with Arctic Thunder. We all got very good at that!
I actually have way too many stories I could share if you’re interested. Including some really unknown behind the scenes stuff. (Fights/Feuds/Slime!/Hosts)
You should do Captain EO. I'm a fan of MJ and never got to experience the attraction.
Defunctland has a video about it if you want to check that out in the meantime.
@@MarcoPolo-eu2kb I know, but I prefer Theme Park History. Plus, he already did a BTTF one
@@eduardodotel8524 understandable
Captain EO has been added to the list, thank you for your suggestion Eduardo.
@@ThemeParkHistory Thanks. Keep up the good work!
I auditioned for blue man group in the old nick studios building. I felt nostalgic for sure! And can you do a video on *boardwalk and baseball* ? It's an old theme park that was near WDW in the late 80's
What was the process like for the audition? Boardwalk and Baseball has been added to the list, thank you for your suggestion Donny.
I was at Universal Studios last week and while waiting in line for the Hollywood Rip Rocket, I noticed a large building to the side. It took me a minute but then it hit me. That building was Nickelodeon Studios! It's a shame how such an iconic part of the 90s youth is just quietly tucked away and hidden.
This was amazing! I watched it while I was cooking. So bittersweet! Thank you so much for doing this video, and putting time into it.
I also loved the shout-out, I screamed when I saw my name lol.
Omg the nostalgia it’s amazing (about time someone nick Studios) that was amazing thanks also on the mention again great work
I actually got to be a part of the splat show as an audience member
Me and my father were both at the show and when my mother came home she got the 2nd half portion of the show recorded it was a moment I’d never forget
I'm surprised there isn't more videos about the history of Nickelodeon Studios out there (besides BSF and Yesterworld).Thank you for your suggestion, it helps us in deciding what to cover! How did the the show go?
Watched all your videos. Incredible series you got going here. Extremely well put together and well researched. Lots to learn and entertaining while I'm learning it. Best of luck to your channel!!
I've been waiting for an episode like this, thanks
No problem Sketch Bud!
When you were born in the earlier half of 2000 and you grew up knowing of Nickelodeon Studios and dreamed of going but you were born just too late.
That sums up a lot of Universal Studios Florida to be honest. If you were visiting the parks between 93-98 you were really missing out on how good the park was.
Your outro music was the outro of legends of the hidden temple. Love it. Best video to date. Your knowledge on everything is impressive!
Had to use it, that show was my childhood! I always wanted to be on the show and win that trip to space camp. Thanks for the kind words Bach, appreciate it!
@@ThemeParkHistory Which team? Purple Parrots, Orange Iguanas, Silver Snakes, Green Monkeys, Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, etc.? It seems like it's always was either the Purple Parrots, Silver Snakes & Green Monkeys who seemed to have the most capable child participants. That said, what was your viewpoint on the TV movie based on the show that retained Kirk Fogg as the Temple's jungle guide & Dee Bradley Baker back as talking monolith Olmec (cue vocals from the show, backed by the iconic theme: "Legends of the Hidden Temple! With your guide Kirk Fogg & here he is now!" "Oh yeah!" "Let's rock!" "Hmmm...")?
Cool Documentey About The Nickelodeon Studios At Universal Studios Florida. Thanks Mate. X
That last part gave me the chills, I miss those days 😍🥲
OMG I remember going to this when I was little! Such a shame they removed it! I wish I could revisit this as an adult!
Your video helped me make a link between Nickelodeon and a French kids' TV show that was really popular in my childhood called Double défi - which literally translates to Double Dare, so when you made a mention of that show, I got curious and started Googling. Sure enough, I found a video of the old French show on CZcams and you can see the Nickelodeon logo at the beginning. So they imported the concept, but did it on a dime... Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)
this is BY FAR the best Nick Studios video on CZcams
I hope Disneyland's Indian Village will get an episode. There's nothing today at any of the parks that quite fills that void.
The Indian Village has been added to the list, thank you for your suggestion jacoblgames.
+Theme Park History You're quite welcome. That attraction is easily a testament to how forward-thinking Disney was.
It definitely looks like a unique experience for its time!
I was on Slime Time back in 95..it was amazing. They made their slime out of pudding.
Makes sense why they made it into pudding. I was wondering how many kids were eating the slime and gak you could buy at Toys R Us.
Nice! On a trip there back in 1994 I was selected to taste-test the slime! Nick Studios and the channel are a part of my childhood I hope to never forget.
I went to Universal for vacation in July. I was near the building and I just felt so much nostalgia despite not being alive during its opening and closing,

That tour was so fun. My cousin David even was even the one that got slimed!

Excellent video!
Thank You!
1985 baby here. Truly honored to see this place in real life. I remember the time capsule moment and ended up on the shows “What would you do?” along with Wild & Crazy Kids. We played musical chairs on WWYD. I was one of the last kids and gladly got bumped off when the music stopped for a cream pie to the face. It stuck like a suction cup. They took me to the back and let me wash my face…gave me a shirt. On Wild & Crazy Kids, I was on the pink team. The challenge was to go through a tube with a baseball glove on, grab an egg, and go back through the tube. The team with the most unbroken eggs won. We lost but I still showed off that shirt at school and didn’t care about it being pink. Great times indeed. Thanks for this video. I’m taking my family to Orlando for Thanksgiving. Nickelodeon isn’t what it used to be but those memories last forever and I’m blessed to still have my parents, sister, our kids and spouses here this time.
these videos are the absolute best.
As a kid, I wanted so badly to go to Universal Orlando and see Nickelodeon Studios. My parents could just never afford to take my brother and me and my chances of going to the moon were the same as going to Universal. I'm so glad that my husband and I were able to visit in 2004. I was at least able to see the outside of the studios with the colorful paint and the slime fountain before it was all taken out and painted over. I'm now 37, but my heart still aches knowing I never was able to and never will be able to be a contestant on Double Dare or Guts "filmed at Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida".
My first and only tour of Nickelodeon Studios was in the spring of 1999, I was 13, I wish I could have gone 5 years earlier, Nick in Florida was already going downhill sadly :( It was a quick 15 minute tour, we stood in a hallway overlooking the studios which looked an overfilled garage. No gamelab, no slime kitchen! I remember the tour guide telling us how great NICK GAS was going to be, unfortunately my family had Directv and they never aired Nick GAS, even after I called and wrote to Directv many times.
Another great video. I miss Nick Studios, I remember going back in the 90s and it was an awesome experience. As a kid of the 90s of course Nickelodeon back then was my world. Shame how they went so badly downhill after the end of the decade which I wouldn't be shocked might've been a factor in the eventual closure of Nick Studios. Though it seems in more recent times they're trying to reach out to their 90s-era audience which is good.
Can you do the history of universal's Halloween horror nights? that would fit next month so well with the Halloween spirit. Also, love the history of the current video.
We will be releasing a video about HHN closer to Halloween, thank you for your suggestion Austin!
@@ThemeParkHistory Whoohoo! I will look forward to it. thanks very much and your welcome.

My pleasure and thank you for putting my comment in the video. It made me feel great to know that my voice was heard. Thanks again one of your best videos. A little side note I was there a month before it closed and I really hate to say this but the employees did not give it there all. I think it was because they knew they were going to close soon.
Well, this is a pleasant surprise!

Loveee this video❤❤❤
Man. The memories hit me hard
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thank you for your suggestion 43! We appreciate the support!
I was legit sad I never got to visit this place as a kid 😭
This was really hard to watch. Nickelodeon Studios' closure represented the last of 90's and Early 2000's cartoon era at Nickelodeon, before all the shows either were canceled or finished their run to make way for today's....."cartoons." I personally went and visited Nickelodeon Animation studios in Burbank and the front of their building removed the giant Nickelodeon foot, slime, and the characters from their roof. Now its just the generic Nickelodeon branding font and nothing more. It represents how Nick really lost their way and decided they don't want to do anything creative or fun anymore, they just want to do something that'll rack in views and milk the shows that still air with generic jokes and bland characters.
Love the Doug music in the background
Can't cover Nickelodeon without some of music from the shows!
April 30th 2042 is when the vault is going to be opened up. They should open it at Universal Studios since that’s where it was first buried.
That's not a bad idea! Maybe by 2042 Nickelodeon will have another attraction at the park and they will open it there.
Thanks for showing this back in 1946 i was there me and my dad
Seeing this building from city walk was a tease being a kid because I couldn't just Walk there by myself but it was a pleasure actually being able to see it from a distance.
Great video, this took me back. I was also an official slime kid myself.
Thank you for watching CrimsonNineTail. Putting the video together was a rush of nostalgia, from watching the clips to listening to the soundtrack. I'm really jealous because it seems everyone was slimed except me whenever they visited Nickelodeon Studios.
Maybe you could Do the Jaws ride also at Universal Studios Florida if you haven't yet, along with Universe of Energy at Epcot, and the 20,000 Leagues under the Sea in Magic Kingdom and Disneyland
We covered Jaws earlier this year, you can check it out here --> czcams.com/video/Cxhtuv5Hc1U/video.html

I wanna see a Nickelodeon Universe theme park at Universal Orlando Resort that’ll feature all different kinds of rides and attractions based on Nickelodeon TV shows as well as some themed areas like Bikini Bottom, a TMNT NYC, Nicktoon Studios, Royal Woods and Great Lakes City, Nickelodeon KidZone, and other themed areas!
Sadly Nickelodeon Studios was an unfortunate casualty of the changes at Universal Studios in the early 2000's, with the park changing and many of the attractions there since opening day either repurposed or shut down. The gradual move of a large chunk of their television productions to the Nick On Sunset facility in Hollywood over the period of a few years eroded the main bread and butter of the studios' purpose and gradually resulted in less people visiting while touring at Universal, not to mention the budget cuts which forced them to reduce the studio tour among other things. What a shame that they declined so much as a result of all those factors, though i take heart in the fact that i was at least able to experience it before closure as my family went there while on vacation at Universal in March/April 2004, and even then it was still cool getting to be at "The Place Where Nick is Made" especially with seeing the Slime Geyser erupt which was the coolest thing.
RIP Nickelodeon Studios...June 7, 1990-April 30, 2005
+Smokey 420 I actually got to taste some of the green slime in the Gak Kitchen while there with my family, and if memory serves me the batch that they had fixed that day definitely tasted like banana pudding with green food coloring in it.
Yeah, i am really glad that i got to go before it ultimately closed down for good just over a year later. Even if the studio wasn't as hot as it had been during the earlier years it was still cool being there after only seeing it on TV for so long. Another thing i remember doing while at the studio was playing one of the interactive games in the Game Lab, and if i recall correctly it was a trivia game although it's been so long that i can't remember exactly what the game was centered around but it was most likely Nicktoon related.
Still, definitely some good memories of this long defunct facility. :)
+Smokey 420 I remember standing near the Slime Geyser with my little brother and watching it go off, and actually getting to see that famous green slime go spewing out in person was so awesome.
I do have a long shot photo somewhere that my mom took of me and my little brother standing out in front of the studio, and that big ol' Nickelodeon sign was looming behind us in grand fashion. Though at this point i can't remember exactly where exactly it is as it's been so long since i last saw it.
Good Afternoon, Theme Park History- I am in love with your channel. You provide good quality, entertaining, and informative videos. Because of you, Disney Dan, and Defunctland, I was obsessed with theme park history (mostly Disney and Universal Parks). Keep up the good work; you are one in a million as a diamond in the rough. I would like to ask if you can cover The Magic of Disney Animation, from Disney's Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World, Orlando,FL. When I was a kid, I love going in there and as of today, if my acting career backfires, I want to go back to school and become an animator for Disney or Pixar. It would be great if you do so. Sorry for making this long, I just can't express the gratitude I have for this channel. Thank you and have a good day.
Love it
How about a history of Knotts Scary Farm? Since Halloween is coming up next month. Love your videos!

Awesome video brother!!! Can you do the history of Halloween Horror Nights at both Universal Studios Hollywood/Orlando?

I got slimed there in 2003 when I was 7 years old and I just came across the certificate they gave me this week, I'll never forget that day!
I took the tour in August 1994. As a 36 year old adult. I was familiar with shows since the GF had kids, so I actually knew the shows and what was going on!!! The tour was great!!!!
