    Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night czcams.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.

    I tried this product but the stone and guide kept grabbing the blade and forcing a stop to the spin. I tried lighter and lighter touches, differing angles, etc. and I just could not get this to work. In order to sharpen the blade you have to find that position that will allow the grinding wheel to do its work as you work it up and down the cutting edge of the blade. Tried it both in a vise and hand holding it. For me, it was a fail.
    Went back to my angle grinder which has worked better for me.

    • @soto1683
      @soto1683 Před 3 lety +1

      It helps with vibration which will cause wear and tear in your mower long term. Kind of like balancing a vehicle wheel for example, if a wheel is off balance your car will vibrate at certain speeds.

    • @paulbillings1791
      @paulbillings1791 Před 3 lety

      Yes it matters.
      As stated in a previous comment,vibrations from an unbalanced blade can wear out crankshaft upper and lower oil seals and piston connector rods at the crankshaft and piston wrist pins.
      If you see silvery streaks in the oil at the time of an oil change,that is powdered aluminum from your connector rod wearing out.
      If your time is worthless,you can replace the connector rod and then remedy the cause or you can balance the blade and change the oil at least once a season.

    • @SilverTreasures
      @SilverTreasures Před 2 lety

      @@paulbillings1791 After 3 years of use, I’ve never changed the oil in my electric lawnmower 😜 But yes, you are correct indeed. Balancing the blade(s) is crucial to keep all parts of the mower operating within the manufacturer’s specs as well as all reasons stated above in both comments. Vibrations will eventually lead to parts becoming stressed, loose, and over time will worsen as the parts become more and more worn out/damaged. Ultimately resulting in some sort of failure(s) over time if never addressed.

    • @Andy-im3kj
      @Andy-im3kj Před 3 lety

      Definitely cheaper and easier to DIY it. Not hard at all. Just balance it afterwards and you're good. You dont need to sharpen it super sharp (as a matter of fact, it's detrimental to sharpen it excessively because it makes the blade more prone to damage).

  • @SeanzGarage
    @SeanzGarage Před 2 lety +3

    First thing you need to do depending on the type of mower you have is make sure your battery is removed, it's unplugged or your spark plug boot is pulled off. Don't trust the fate of your fingers to the assumption that shit will always work as intended.
