Great demo! It addresses the problem we have with ColorVu cameras in very dark areas. Sometimes I don't want to attract attention to the camera with a white light.
I couldn't watch a lot of the review because of the shakycam footage though. A modern smartphone with video stabilisation would have been a lot more stable.

I'm really liking these new Hikvision ColurVue turrets. I've slotted them in as our default camera for all installations going forward. I do find that they need to run in "Back Light" mode under image settings with WDR on or HLC on to help mitigate the bright LED lights in nighttime view. They run exceptionally well at night - 10/10 Hikvision!

Nice video. You can really see the original colorvu and it's larger 1/1.2 lens pulls a better picture in the low light situation with a lot less noise. Of course the IR image is a lot more usable for the hybrid camera. It's too bad they went with a smaller 1/1.8" sensor with the hybrid. Given the whole package, I think the Hybrid camera is still the way to go.

I was just about to comment this, I was going to jump straight into buying these new hybrid Colorvu turrets for my new setup after months of research but now I'm conflicted.
I really like the new hybrid light feature but the smaller sensor size does put me off, I noticed the 4mp hybrid model uses 1/1.2 which meets the MP/sensor size ratio but I was after an 8mp turret for my setup. Hopefully they release a 1/1.2 8mp hybrid turret soon.

    • @PhilGraves43

      The 4mp hybrid doesn't use 1/1.2 it uses 1/1.8.

So do you buy the hybrid or the normal? And for a good sensor on a 8mp camera i think we need to wait longer, because dahua have also the same problem.

So, the take-away from this is, if you don't mind the white lights, the original ColorVu is the better camera. Also, in a real-world situation, an intruder would likely be in and out of the viewing area before the light switched from IR to white and adjusted it's intensity enough to have a usable image. I would like to see this comparison in a real-world setting with the person moving through the area, rather than walking into the box and standing there looking at the camera.

  • @melbournesubtropicfruits9474

How come my 8mp Acusense doesn't have a line box around human and Darkfighter doesn't seem to work? Thanks

  • @JanMashat
    @JanMashat Před 16 hodinami

You have additional (infrared) light from other cameras which makes the IR image seem better than it would typically be, and you don't set the same intensity of white light on the two cameras which makes the non-Hybrid image seem better. Not the best "comparison" IMO.

  • @averagefirechannel

You could actually do a scheduled switch using the Image Parameter Switch menu. Set the Custom1 Profile to use the white light illuminator profile and Custom2 to use the infrared profile, then schedule the camera to use Custom1 at all times except when you want the IR to be active instead.

I have been using the ColorVu cameras for quite some time now and the colored night vision is great, especially in low light. And all this without turning on the LED lighting present.
But I don't understand why you would then add IR (black and white image) to a camera, which can display colored image.
Then as far as I'm concerned, they could have spent more time on the better types of detection.
Like the web support, which is very mediocre.

Colorvue is a great technology but in really low light the colour gets worse and worse until the image is black and white. At this stage the black and white image is poorer than it would be with IR, so IR is fitted to keep the quality higher in very low light scenarios. I'll not engage with you on the use of the white LEDs to compensate this - others have already stated the location may mean they are intrusive to neighbours, perhaps an owner doesn't want an intruder to be aware of a camera' presence, an owner doesn't want to lose his night vision when exiting his car, or any other reason - but accept that IR is fitted for good reason.
