  • The trans-blue pieces arrived to finish off the pond for the upgraded Botanical Garden!
    Using just different colours of blue plate and the trans-blue tiles, you can easily create a realistic water effect with Lego.

    Really love the herringbone pattern for the water. Stunning end result. 🤩

  • @gordonwerner
    @gordonwerner Před měsícem +2

    The only thing I would have done different would be to place one or two of the Koi tiles under the trans blue surface tiles - that would help with the depth illusion.
    As for the pond’s walls, you can use olive green and those quarter circle tiles to make it look like the wall is old and falling apart. Maybe change some of the rock surfaces to olive green to depict moss/algae growing on them.

    • @ZooBricks
      @ZooBricks  Před měsícem

      That’s what I wanted to do, it’s a little tricky as the koi have no studs on them, so it was difficult to cover them in a trans blue tile as if I did the herring-bone join over the fish, then the koi is hidden. I will have to play around a a bit!
      Love your pond wall idea, I’ll have a play around as I’m not over impressed with the finished look.
      Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

    Great tip about not pushing everything down before you're ready. I've tore up so many brick seperators and then my nails trying to get plate up in this situation. It looks amazing!

    If you tile off the top of the wall you could mix in some olive or sand green tiles under foliage to represent moss in shadowy areas.

    That looks amazing! LEGO builders seem to achieve all sorts of different levels of realism with different kinds of water, which suggests to me that there’s quite an art to it! ☺

    • @ZooBricks

      Thank you! There is definitely an art to it I reckon, I never really thought about it until I started this project, but these effects can be created in many ways. Just give it a go! 😁

    I like the water a lot. The different colors looked a bit busy at first but once you got the tile down they blend really well. And adding in a few of the clear cheese slopes gives it just the right amount of movement.
    I know you don't want to add any other animals to the pond but maybe consider some wild ducks or geese? I know here at zoos (and most everywhere with water) there are wild ducks that use ponds and fountains. You wouldn't have to build an enclosure or anything for them. Just have one or two hanging out in the water. Wait, does Lego make a minifig duck? Not the toy type but an actual duck? Hmmm...

    • @ZooBricks
      @ZooBricks  Před měsícem +1

      Great idea! Sadly Lego is lacking in swans and actual ducks ☹️ just tiny brown and yellow toy ducks are available. I will have to see what I can figure out with what I have already to ‘liven’ the place up a bit! Thanks for watching! 😎🙏🏻

      Great idea - the tiny pond is too busy now. Moving the lilies is a little tricky now as they are mounted to snot bricks, and the big pond isn’t deep enough to hold them, so will have to faff about with something else 🤔🙏🏻

    Really nice video from you. The pond looks much better now. A difference like night and day. A pair of swan would be nice on the pond. Mourning swans or mute swans would be nice. Now the question is, is there something like that from Lego? If you still have butterflies, I would put them in the botanical garden. I'm looking forward to your next video. 💪💪👍

      Thank you! A few layers of plate/tiles makes all the difference! I’ve had a look and Lego doesn’t do Swans 😐 so its going to have to be some form of duck/seagull I reckon 🤔

    Hi Maxine, the pond looks great... the dark blue for the deeper area at the end of the jetty really works.
    Re the wall, what about using piece no. 49307 to cap it off? And also, for a wild animal, you could put somewhere, i've used the Niffler from the Newt Scamander figure as a mole popping out of a mound in a grassy area.

    • @ZooBricks

      Hey! Yes - thats the same part that is around the small pond.. I’ll have to play around with a few ideas I reckon. I just bought niffler when I got the capybara in the other day so thats a great idea! I wasn’t sure what I was actually going to do with him.. I just liked him 😅🤓

    What is the story with your layout Maxine? Is it for /located at the Zoo that you work at? Or is it your personal build?

    • @ZooBricks
      @ZooBricks  Před měsícem

      Hey! The end goal is for it to be on display at the real-life Zoo. The animals/layout doesn’t match the actual zoo as we have some unusual species that Lego doesn’t make, for example - snow leopard, lynx, lemur, arctic fox, porcupine, etc) for this reason, the Lego Zoo (unnamed as of yet!) is just focussed on whatever animals Lego does - I think Lego species are probably more appealing and interesting for people to look at anyways! I work on the project in my spare time and want to share it with anyone wanting to build the same 😊🙏🏻
