  • What happens when foundational scientific concepts clash with modern identity politics? Today, our guest is Elizabeth Weiss, professor emeritus of anthropology at San José State University, Segal Center research fellow, and a renowned author. Her latest book, "On the War Path: My Battles with Indians, Pretendians, and Woke Warriors", is now available.
Weiss recounts her tumultuous journey through academia and the underlying conflicts within anthropology. These conflicts range from the debate between scientific knowledge and postmodern truths to the intersection of identity politics with the discipline. She also discusses the controversy surrounding the cancellation of a panel on the concept of binary sex by major anthropological associations, only for it to gain global attention after being reinstated.
Join us as Elizabeth Weiss shares her steadfast commitment to objective knowledge and truth, her experiences with being canceled, and her aspirations for reform within the field of anthropology.
    In This Episode:

Thanks very much for this video and for Heterodox Academy. So glad I’ve retired from academia. What a mess! Please let guests finish their sentences. Doing so shows respect and confidence that the guest will make their points without being directed .

Anthropology is one of the most woke-left-captured departments in academia.
    Cheers to Elizabeth!

Many of those who are quickest to deride the creation stories of European cultures are also the quickest to officially declare the creation myths of American indigenous peoples as important oral histories and therefore sacrosanct.
So often when reading archeological papers pertaining to the histories of indigenous Americans, I see the authors attempting to walk a precarious tightrope where they water down research findings and include the opinions of native American "authorities" in an effort to both publish their work, but not lose access to archeological sites because they pissed off the natives.
It's dangerous to reliable results to allow hard scientific research to be comprised by having to kowtow to special interest groups in order to maintain access to important resources.

@@vickibicknell884 yes but he didnt need to 'clarify' every 5 minutes. he could have done so after the fact. an interviewer must allow the guest to finish his (in this case her) thought(s) and then ask for clarification.

    Host interrupts guest
    Guest starts to speak
    Hosts interrupts again
    Guest starts to speak again
Hosts interrupts again then says but go on…
    (Edit)
    20 interruptions later…
Host: I’m sorry to interrupt (continues to interrupt)

What a great title. Obviously, skeletons have sex (biological) but no gender (behavioral). Which tells something about what has a meaning and what doesn't, if one wants to have definition with legal meanings (e.g., for women rights under legal rules and regulations).
