  • The PS Vita is an awesome handheld worth revisiting, but what truly unlocks the greatness of this console is the power of homebrew. This tutorial will go through the process of taking any PlayStation Vita console on firmware 3.74 and modifying it with h-encore² with the goal of launching third party homebrew, games, applications, and more. However it doesn't stop there. This goes through the process of downgrading to the more compatible 3.60 firmware, remodifying the consoles with HENkaku, and making the modification launch on coldboot with HENkaku Ensō!
The end-goal here being a successfully downgraded, coldbooting, modified Vita with a few starter plugins as well as pieces of homebrew to create a solid foundation for using the Vita. All the heavy lifting of the modification process itself is covered here while further recommendations and improvements are available in additional videos. Be sure to look in the "Additional Vita Videos" section of this description for more!
Despite this video being recorded and performed on firmware 3.73, the same software and methods will work on 3.74! The title and description have been updated to reflect this is working for 3.74, and a direct link to a 3.74 compatible FinalHE has been updated.
Although this video still works fine, a lot of this is made even easier thanks to VitaDeploy! Updated video here:

Dude, I have so much to thank you for. My PSVita was the first console I ever bought with my own money, and despite Sony's lack of first-party support, I always loved the few games I had, I took my fat launch model Vita on roadtrips, plane flights - this thing's been with me nearly nine years and it's probably covered tens of thousands of miles. I heard you could mod Vitas from somewhere, and having already modded my PSP 3000, I jumped at the chance. Now here I am, just finished your tutorial and I have the biggest grin on my face. Thank you for re-igniting my love for my favourite console. Now to install Adrenaline...

I cannot thank you enough! I'd been on 3.73 Henkaku for ages, and although great, it was very limited for PSP games and the like. I tried downgrading before and nothing ever worked. Only this tutorial helped me, and now I am so relieved to be back at 3.60, and everything working perfect. I am going to check out your SD2Vita tutorial now, as I've had issues with that before, corrupt data, etc. But wow you are brilliant!

The only parts I tripped up on was the fact I already had my console linked to my PC via the official Sony content manager, which was interrupting the initial connection to install h-encore² alongside some issues when rebooting where it was asking me to format my external storage card (which I said no to and it worked out fine)

Just wanted to say thank you. I had previously attempted to install endo and molecule but I always got stuck as you did on the browser never continuing. Seems like the trick was a reboot before attempting it again like you did and finally was able to overcome that part. Which was the most tricky for me.

Finally got my vita and could never properly get CFW to install from using the online, text based guides. Thank you so much.
P.S. As a suggestion, instead of deleting the tai folder from ux0, I found it more helpful to copy the tai folder and its contents to ux0 as well as ur0.
