      Bro, I am started surfing at 48. One year in and a lot of trial and errors, I am much better and enjoying it. Also I have met others out there starting surfing in their 50s.

    Hello again. Awesome video again love the Content you post ;).I have tried the surf sk8 with my cruiser. I loosen the trucks as much as I can and start Learning techniques like how to pump and doing some maneuvers, and dropping in on a wave. I was able to get better and better by the day and really enjoyed doing it for fun and practicing my surfing. Thanks for the suggestion.I was wondering how can I get my body in shape and ready for surfing and some stretches I could do to not feel all achy during the beginning of the session. Thank you for all your contacts love watching your videos.

      I am older, 59, and still learning. In addition to fitness, I try to manage my energy output in the water; waiting for a lull to paddle back out, and the biggy, going for waves from the wrong place.

      @@jimmccarley9609 yea I really should do that more to conserve energy but often esoecially on the smaller days I like to challenge myself to get out through waves and work on duckdives and turtle rolls..as the session goes on I wait for those lulls..)

    Hi, nice video! i would like to know if the lenght play an important role in the paddle power or it all about volume? for example if i have 2 boards of different lenght but same liters, would the longest one paddle better?

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  Před 2 lety +1

      Interesting question, I have not surfed a 60L shorter board, however I would think that the longer board provides more forgiveness in your positioning, eg: you could get away with being slightly more forward or slightly further back...On shorter shorter boards there is less room for failure in this regard.

    There’s a kid that goes to the beach I surf at and he catches waves I didn’t think could be daydreaming. But I have wondered how does he paddle with just two strokes and catch a wave? Watching him has improved my paddling to catch waves but I still can’t figure how to paddle with literally 2 strokes and catch a wave.

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Will, your positioning can make a two stroke paddle in possible, try mixing up where you are taking off.

    Paddling is my achilles heel. I get tired super fast. It's better on my 8' mal, but on my shorter 6' 6" I really struggle. I see other old and less fit looking guys out there paddling for longer and faster. So, what am I doing wrong? Is it technique or just stamina, or both??? Do you know any where that I can send a short video of my paddling technique for analysis? I do had a rounded upper spine and I've always wondered if this is partly the cause because I cannot raise my chest high enough? Any tips would be super useful Ryan. Thanks mate.

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  Před 3 lety

      Hey Andy, if you have some footage of you paddling send it through to thesurfersjourney@gmail.com. It could be a combination of both, also your 6'6 might not have enough volume for you, but again hard to say. In regards to the chest lift, it doesn't need to be significant, as you can see in the videos, so I don't think your rounded spine would be the issue. I will have a look at the video.

    Always thanks to ur great videos annd infos. Appreciated. Anyway im just a beginner surfer here in korea and just getting started to take off. There are plenty of videos for beginners with take off and paddling. But im struggling with rotating my board while seating on the board waiting for waves on the line up. There are few videos that i could catch up but still details are quite missing. Need your advise or maybe u could plan a vid with this subject would be awesome with maybe few beginners like me.

      Thanks for tuning in from Korea, what are the waves? Good point, I can certainly elaborate on that for you. In the meantime, check this one out, czcams.com/video/3T9kRQy-FSE/video.html
      Thanks again, something coming soon.

    Would you say that a lower volume boards makes certain wave types EASIER to catch? I’m thinking specifically on beach breaks that go from deep to shallow quickly and pitch up. There is no way I’m going to “glide” into those waves by paddling hard anyway and a lower volume board makes the drop easier as it’s easier to “break the ledge” and not get sucked up in the lip .. hence take off a bit lower down on the face. Or is this just in my head???

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey Karl, I think what you are talking about refers more to positioning yourself to takeoff on the peak. Boards with more rocker are more suited to steeper waves like you are talking about, generally speaking they would have less volume compared to a flatter longboard or fish. From my experience boards with less volume are harder to paddle.
