The kid at the end was meant to symbolize Norman before the war changed him. Had that been Norman at the start, he would have done the same thing. He was saved by the innocence the war forced him to give up.
this movie is so full of symbolisms , i love how they took the time to do that. one i think i picked up on, when he first tells him to shoot the bodies then tells him not to shoot, it's not an issue of shoot/ not shoot, its the mindset, one is for survival, and one is for the mindset of revenge. powerful stuff
That was based on an actual recollection of a U.S. tank crewman. He was hiding under the tank like that and a German definitely saw him but for some reason gave him a pass.
Its both that, and that also just to show that everybody is human in the end... Most people are capable of showing empathy and has a moral compass and most soldiers are just conscripts/drafted ordinary people, who dont really wanna fucking be there. (the german kid understood, and ofc highly likely were in a similar situation) Even if they wanted to (to fight for your country like patriotism or whatever), they would still have some sort of moral compass (to an extent ofc, war makes u cold as fuck, but not completely empty)... During the whole movie, Don always makes sure the ppl he gets/orders killed are SS, besides when he makes Norman shoot that POW, where he wants to prove a point, since its a war after all and its either the germans or them... Yes, i know u all are gonna say "but he has no trouble shooting kids or letting his crew do so etc", but cmon, again. its a fucking war. Anyone with a weapon has to die. A kid destroyed a tank ffs. Back to basics, them or us. Don were only interrested in the SS guy with the busted wing for example. And to showcase even more morale, during the scene with the two cousins. Don knew that his crew would eventually find him and Norman, and if Norman hadnt slept with her, Don would have done it for sure, as the rest of the crew (probably just Grady lol) probably would have raped her or something like that, which is aweful. Its war and soldiers becomes animals and people do horrible stuff to one another to fulfill their own needs.. Its gonna sound fucking idiotic, but Don made Norman "tagg" her, so that the other guys would stay away. Its like a very fucking "guy" thing to say, but its like a socialogical thing between guys. Its like what Don said to the older cousin.. They are young, they are alive. (basically hinting/meaning that this is probably the best outcome in this scenario)
A famous writer once wrote, "There is no killing, like the killing of a man". In war, you can take that to mean that once you have killed, nothing compares to the rush of that kill. That's why so many Veteran's have trouble adjusting when they return home. Of course, that is magnified by 1,000 during World War's. Then, you have survivors remorse, just for living through it. I think you both handled the subject matter very well.
A beautiful and violent movie. Keep watching these, because the values they teach, haven't been taught in school, in 40 years. Also good true type or True story movies to watch are Saving Private Ryan, 13 hours, Lone Survivor, hacksaw Ridge, Once we were Soldiers, Blackhawk Down,1917, Dunkirk, Thin Red Line, Unbroken, Big Red One, Hamburger Hill, American sniper.
It’s actually amazing engineering how Americans built a tank that could be shipped across the ocean and could still at least compete with the bigger German tanks.
and they were very cheap and quick to produce. The Sherman was also much more adaptable, and could be used for anything, from mine-clearing to bull-dozing
Yeah. The Tiger tank had superior armor and guns but the Germans never could produce enough of them and they were high maintenance. America pumped out Sherman tanks like dougnuts and despite their short comings they were pretty reliable and versatile.
Good reaction, to a great movie, enjoyed watching along with you both, I liked your analogy that Norman came in as a typist and ended up a machine, the German soldier that spotted Norman under the tank, was like him, young and scared and inexperienced, and he saw himself in Norman, and he let him go out of mercy, even the enemy can be merciful at times, hope to see more from your channel, hope you both are well, take care!...👍👍👍👍👍
Some might say that them staying to hold the crossroad was a form of suicide as well as a sacrifice. They have been in this war for a long time (except Norman) and coming back to normal life might be hard for them in terms of PTSD, survivors guilt, and adapting to civilian life in trying to work a normal job.
I am really enjoying your movie reactions. I’m glad I found your channel. My grandfather fought in WW2 and my uncle fought in Vietnam. They spoke very little about it and when they did, their tears wouldn’t stop. The Germans in the SS were the worst. They enjoyed their work of killing Jews. Even the ones still alive show no remorse. They embodied evil. Keep the reactions coming!
fact is that especially the SS where not uniformely only germans but alot foreigners. Wehrmacht would not took foreigners. SS however did because it was technicaly not part of the german army. So there were no needs to be a documented german to serve with them. But anyway i understood your comment as being triggert by the scene in the end where it is shown that even german sodiers where humans. So i go against your point and state the opposite - even SS where not the embodiement of evil - but rather a trwon together bunch of germans, volunteers, murderers and all kinds of people.
God bless all of the veterans who risked everything and sacrificed so much to protect our countries and preserve the freedoms we enjoy today! God bless all the souls - military and civilian - that we have lost in times of war! God bless America! God bless us all and grant us peace
The lieutenant who was burning and shot himself in the head would not do that on the spur of the moment. That is something that he would have visualized for if he was ever in that position. Many, many tank casualties resulted in crew members burning. He would have thought about that scenario often. In a dangerous occupation it is very common, because you know that you might face it someday. Visualizing helps you react when the time comes.
At the end you will see the tank at the center of the cross, the sacrifice that was needed. The Germans screwed up by attacking the tank instead of moving on to attack the supply chain.
I served and loved my brothers, would have done anything for them! But if I had just been trying to have a nice meal in a messed up situation like that and they barged in acting like those guys, I think I would have lost my $h!+
The story actually took place during the First World War & the tank was English & became disabled on the battlefield in no man’s land for days . It’s name was Fray Bentos , which was a canned meat product like American Spam
The Scene with the Tiger, the crew was very inexperienced, most of Germany’s tank crews were at that point, they were having to pull bodies and were low on experienced tank crews and commanders. However, German engineering was something else. If they had the Manpower, with that Technology, and certain events had gone slightly different, WW2 would have been very different
"Dang, are they just that much better?" The German tanks crews were very experienced by the time the US landed in Europe. Also their tanks were exceptional machines. Both in armor and firepower vs what the allied forces had. The advantage we had with the Sherman tank the US used. Is that we could make many more of ours versus the one Tiger or King Tiger tank the Germans could manufacture in the same time frame. We beat them with sheer numbers.
The Germans, for the most part, had superior tanks compared to the United States, Great Britain and the USSR. Specifically, the German Tiger, Panther and Panzer tanks were usually far more effective than the common Sherman tank used by America. One Tiger tank with a good crew could literally hold off and even outright destroy up to 5 Sherman tanks. Here's a true story: On July 8th, 1943, a single Tiger tank commanded by Franz Staudegger took on fifty attacking T-34 tanks as the only armored vehicle on its side (though it did have infantry support), destroying twenty-seven enemy tanks and forcing the remainder to break off their attack and fall back. The T-34 were the main tanks used by the Soviets.

9:23 . Yeah, u don't want to burn alive. Couldn't imagine anything more painful. When 9/11 happened to the World Trade Center, people were jumping out of a building over 1,300ft high falling to their deaths to avoid burning alive.
In one of the deleted scenes, u find out that Don (Brad Pitt) had a younger brother named Norman.. I won't say what happened, but it explains y Don's back is all burnt up, and also y he was hard on Norman. He was just looking out for him, trying to tough him up so he could survive. I believe Norman would have died if it wasn't for that.
There was a multitude of different reasons men were at war. Some wanted to fight, some didn't. Some were forced, others went willingly. I've heard many war stories of mercy through countless different conflicts. There's a famous, yet not confirmed, story of an English soldier holding a young German soldier up at gun point during ww1. The German soldier was just a runner (a messenger) so the englishman took pity on him and let him live. That young soldier would one day rule Germany and be a huge part of ww2, because that man was Adolf Hitler
Brings a new meaning to "no good deed goes unpunished". I mean granted he's only human so he couldn't foresee the future but man that would still haunt me inside after knowing that.
@S1D3winder017 its the butterfly effect. But even if he did shoot the young soldier, he's just a murderer and would never know of the massive implications this would have down the line. Its crazy to think about haha

It's called "Humanity" as to your question why that soldier let Norman live. At this point in the war the germen soldiers knew there was no hope of victory and the ones fighting were likely very new, young, and inexperienced recruits. Let's say the soldier looking at Norman hadn't killed anybody yet and knew the war was going to be over soon, why kill someone and have to live with that the rest of your live? Love your reactions ladies, keep them coming!
The most decorated English soldier of WW1 , Henry Tandey once came upon a lone german soldier in the woods . The German was unarmed & Tandey wouldn’t kill an unarmed man . They both survived the war & both wrote books , they both ( unbeknownst to each other ) told the tail of the encounter in the woods . The German was Hitler
Tiger tank was the best tank in WWII but problem for Germans was that they had tiger tank only on the end of war, if they had have tiger from start of war than it would be much much harder war for Allies to won.
The SS soldier let him go and didn't say anything because Everyone in the German military at that point in the war knew it was all but over and Knew the guy under the tank would have been shot if he reported him. And he saw no point in reporting him.
29:24 I am far from an expert on these matters, so anyone more knowledgable than me please correct me But as far as I understand, is not like *they* are *that* good, is more like the Tiger (as a tank model) was one of the most brutal and overpowered pieces of engineering of that time. That's why they had so many losses: that one single tank was by in of itself extremely "overpowered" compared to the technology at "our guys" disposal. Far better reach, armor, speed and so forth
The Young Nazi Waffen SS soldier was exactly like Norman: forced to participate in the war and merciful. The Youngblood looks like he barely reached his 18th birthday. He probably must have been "convinced" to join the Hitler-Jugend (Hitler Youth) at the age of 10 and once graduation, he must have climbed the ranks to become a Waffen SS. Once he experienced the Waffen SS had No Remorse against enemy soldiers who begged for mercy and civilians, he must have cried like Norman did at one point. So the young German SS soldier saw Norman as a mirror reflection and decided to let him live. Until this day, the Fate of the Young Waffen SS soldier is unknown.
1:28 "Hey. You want to talk _Mexican,_ join _another_ tank; a _Mexican_ tank. This is an _American_ tank. We talk _American."_ 🤔 Mexico is in America. _All_ of Mexico, as a matter of fact. Which is ironic, because not all of the _United States_ is. But Mexico is in _America,_ so Gordo _is_ speaking American.
The tank that they faced was a Tiger one tank, it was the most feared tank of WW2, and the normal German was not that brutal but were just fighting for there country, while the SS was true evil and they were not part of the Wehrmacht(German army)
Thhe executed soldier is wearing an American uniform. By doing so he forfeits his rights under the Geneva Convention and is subject to battlefield execution. Ordering Norman to do so is a legitimate order.
There are not very many left now who were actually there. Like others I grew up with these people. My Grandfather was in the Navy in the Pacific, and my Great Uncle was a part of the offensive in Northern Africa, and then Italy. What they show in this film is just a hint of the horror that was actually involved. And yet the ones who could, came back and built the most prosperous America that has ever existed. Raised their children to have a better life than they had growing up during The Depression. Generation labels are often not very accurate, but calling those people 'The Greatest Generation' wasn't even a slight exaggeration.

Not fun fact 🤦♂️ The reason the American soldiers in this movie were acting so creepy towards the women is because in real life during WW2 when the American military kicked out the Germans French people said the Americans were raping more French women than the Germans even did 🙄☯️

Like the way that they looking each other sometimes, and they are the only ones whos not fkin with nobody when the gang are chilling in the town. And the way that Shia looked Brad in the table scebe when he realized he was not invited, is something else.. idc

@@CodeeXD Listen. you were all brainwashed by your countries that germans were cold blooded criminals. no, Hitler was crazy, yes. But his army was a normal army. Russian army was fucked up.
the tiger tank took out on average 3-4 shermans to our one kill on a tiger. their tanks were terrifying so much to where my buddy who was a tank gunner told me they studied tanks through history and that an old tiger could fuck up modern tanks apparantly. if one was still running that is. and in the hands of the enemy.
"they studied tanks through history and that an old tiger could fuck up modern tanks apparently" Uh, no! A Tiger tank would not survive even against a Korean War Tank like a M48 or T-55. It would be out gunned, out ranged, and out maneuvered.
The Tiger is actually an extremely overrated tank they had horrible maneuverability and the transmissions were notoriously awful and known to just not work at times and a little known fun fact the Sherman with a 75mm long gun (which is what fury is) and the Sherman firefly were both capable of penetrating the Tigers armor for any angle

My father lost his leg in karhumäki (Soviet-union) and became an alcoholic . Shit childhood .🤬
I kinda wish one of you were my wife. At least you got a small idea ❤
Norman messed up the crews karma and got them all killed! because he couldn't follow a order the first time it was given.
Awesome
W koncu, ktos normalny, z kim mozna by porozmawiac. Czuć, śmiać sie i byc przestraszonym.
React on
Band of brothers
War vets hate to be called heroes, this title comes at a great cost,ty is ok but please never call one a hero , bloody wraith
The German tanks, Tiger and Panzer were far superior to ours.
Not fun fact 🤦♂️ The reason the American soldiers in this movie were acting so creepy towards the women is because in real life during WW2 when the American military kicked out the Germans French people said the Americans were raping more French women than the Germans even did 🙄☯️
Please react to bullet train movie 2022 brat Pitt movie
Am i the only one who felt that Shias and Brads characters are together? Like the way that they looking each other sometimes, and they are the only ones whos not fkin with nobody when the gang are chilling in the town. Its sad this kind of war is going on in the Ukraine many will die in this war in a few days all hell is going to come to the Russians
German army was the most organized and respectful army. My country fought Germany and allies . allies rape little girls, killed all the animals from people for fun. But German army never did something badly to the people when they came here.
Are you on some sort of medication 💊?
I guess the jews loved their respect
@@samuelatuinaceva5003 i know what Hitler made. I don't talk about that. You stupid now. I talk about the army, their respect.
Lmao ok
@@CodeeXD Listen. you were all brainwashed by your countries that germans were cold blooded criminals. no, Hitler was crazy, yes. But his army was a normal army. Russian army was fucked up.
Awful film but I am sure it makes Americans feel good
the tiger tank took out on average 3-4 shermans to our one kill on a tiger. their tanks were terrifying so much to where my buddy who was a tank gunner told me they studied tanks through history and that an old tiger could fuck up modern tanks apparantly. if one was still running that is. and in the hands of the enemy.
The one used in this movie is the only one in the world that is still operational. Of course the destruction is CGI but the other shots were real.
The Tiger was also near impossible to fix in the field were as the Sherman was designed for relativity easy/fast field repairs.
is it their comrades face? whos face would it be?
Driest reaction
They were a different breed back then . Yall generation embarrassing.
