Your channel is everything" mate. I've an iPhone 12 and was thinking about upgrading but I couldn't find a good enough reason why I should upgrade. It works perfectly!
My iPhone 8 works the same as my 13 pro max. Only thing I did was take it to Best Buy and had a new battery installed. I actually use my iPhone 8 more because it’s smaller. I think upgrade phone maybe every 10 years. Long as replace the batteries you should be fine.
I totally agree with the sentiment about there generally not being a whole lot of value in upgrading unless your phone is dying or you're running into major issues these days, but in your case it sounds like your device is actually damaged. You can keep using it of course, but at that point I think you have a justifiable reason to buy a new device simply because your current one is damaged in a way that likely makes a significant difference in the overall experience in using it. They did come out with a new iPhone SE this year. It's up to you though.
I'm upgrading my over 4 year old iPhone 7 to a cheap refurbished iPhone X since its gotten ridiculously slow and the battery will easily die in a few minutes occasionally
If your phone is outdated, or has problems at the point that the phone doesn't function well, then it's time to change it. And if my phone dies, I'll probably get a phone that was made this year or 1-2 yrs ago
Just got my iPhone 12 only because my phone shut off & would not come on but I’m keeping my 12th for the long run I think it’s so dumb when people get every iPhone that comes out just to have the latest iPhone it’s a waste of money if u ask me if nothing is wrong with your iPhone u shouldn’t have to get a new phone take care of it & treat it with love & it won’t let u down just my opinion thank u for this video

I have an uncle who is rich asf . Richest member of our family that i know of ... he owned every sport car i imagined . owned multiple houses and so on , when i saw him a few months ago and was using an iPhone X , ... he only used the phone for what he needed for an didnt need ' the latest and greatest ' ... You would think someone like him would have an iPhone 13 pro max that is cranked up to the teeth to be top of the game Naw man , he told me ' the phone does what i need it to do . Id rather invest that money and make it GROW ' -- words stuck to me forever . Meanwhile most poor saps i know that is working a 9-5 job slaving away has the latest and greatest phone to 'impress' others . I currently own an iPhone XR and i think running into him just justified my reason NOT to buy a new iPjhone this year and INVEST that money instead .
I had the iPhone 7. The only reason i upgraded is coz it kept having no service issues and it was not the cell service. I did not want to upgrade. A phone should be used until it is not working. Such as my phone did. or unless its too slow and crashes. All we all really need in a phone is calling and texting. we don't need social media or to watch videos. what the purpose of a phone? the purpose is to make a call or send a text. The rest is extra.
I have the same phone for 3 years its my first its a hisense it cost me $90 my dad got it for me,I think i will upgrade any time by next year i will never buy a iphone i woupd rather buy a huawei because i know it will last another 3-4 years and i wouod have to change the battery maybe in the first 2years
Thank you mate... you made me saved my money.. I have ip12 and planning to buy ip13 or wait for ip14... you made me realised that my phone is more than enough ..
I bought a used Macbook pro from 2014 last year for about 600€, mainly because current ones are waaaaay too overpriced. Thought I'd like to have a laptop and I wanted to try out OSX and I'm pretty happy about this. Use it almost daily and I really like it. Now I would never feel the need to upgrade to a newer or current one, because that thing works perfectly fine how it should.
I found that the best way to avoiding the hedonic treadmill of wanting more stuff is to quit watching videos and consuming media content focused on stuff, because the temptation will always be in front of you. Speaking of payments, if you see cars on the road that are 2-5 years old, and are already trashed and covered in dents, 99% of the time, their owners still owe money on them, or rolled over negative equity to get those cars. Whereas people who pay cash for new cars know how much they cost up front, and thus take care of them. Same goes with pretty much anything expensive that’s bought with cash. Well done video.
I use my iPad 6th Gen to edit and upload my AMV’s to my CZcams channel it works perfectly fine I thought about trying to get an refurbished MacBook since I am on a fixed income but my iPad works so well when I edit so I scrapped the idea and decided to just stick with my iPad
bro what software do you use to make amv's and where did you go to learn how to make them? i've had the idea on my mind for a while and i have some shit i really want to make so your input will be much appreciated!
I’ve had my iPhone 11 since it first came out, last year I thought about upgrading to the 13 but didn’t since it works just fine, still fast, battery lasts long enough for me (at least 2 hours a day for 2 days straight, or around 5-6 hours in one day). I think i’ll wait until the iPhone 15.
This is why they got rid of the subsidy. I used to buy a new iPhone every 2 years. 200 bucks. I would sell it for 200 on Craigslist. Now you pay full price. Thats why I am finally going from a 8plus to 12 Pro max.
Love this video and thank you for your message. Consumerism and constant adverisement of technology puts too much on people to splurge money on unwanted things. We should learn to control ourselves in terms of spending habits
I just got my iPhone 13 this year which is the 5th phone I have at this time. My first phone back in 2015 was a ZTE budget smartphone which was the only android phone I've ever had before switching to iPhones one year later.
Actually, I think I might be wrong. I had another Android smartphone in 2016 but it was for a temporary use. It was an SKK Mobile budget smartphone that was only accessible in the Philippines but not in the US. Even if I had that temporary SKK phone, I still had my ZTE smartphone even though it was useless in the Philippines due to lack of roaming.
What you have to remember is there is the 10% and 90% population rule. 10% of the population are going to go out and buy the latest and greatest phone and the 90% of the population will stick with their current phone for 2 or 3 years. I’m part of that 90% lol. The 10% is how companies make their money.
my old iphone 7 is not that slow, maybe slower and i am little disappoint, but the major thing make me feel bad about it is the overheating issues, it overheat even though im watching youtube without charging, the battery cycle health decreses so quickly which forces me to change battery every 12 month, the power button dosent work (u cant turn the phone on when u turn off until u find power sources.) the overheating causes the one corner of the screen starts to feel loose when pressing. but overall the overheat feeling in the hand makes me disappoint the most. at this point even ios16 dont support it anymore ,so its time to change a phone.
don't kno why ppl r always after da latest n greatest smartphone... ever since i finished paying off my actual smartphone, my monthly telecom bills dropped significantly and i do not wanna go back to those times of expensive bills...
Also the companies that make these phone don't let you replace your battery. They tell you to just buy a new phone. If you ask about Battery replacement or a fix for any other part you want to fix they will make it hard or up charge. they do not want people to just fix phones they want you to upgrade
I’ve been using my iPhone X since 2018. I think there needs to be a balance. I’ve been maximizing my phones since I graduated college and would upgrade around every 4 years. I’ve educated myself more about phones such as maintenance of replacing batteries once they reach 80% battery health and considering to buy new phones when the battery life and memory offered has substantially increased.
I've had my iphone 8 for over three years now. With the release of the iphone 14, I've been wanting to buy the 13 or 12 so badly.... I almost bought one on black friday, but then I decided to kind of 'upgrade' my current iphone 8 so I could fall in love with it again. What I did: - Give my homescreen and lockscreen a makeover and make it look cute and aesthetic - Get my shattered screen fixed - Get a new battery - Get a supercute new phone case Honestly I still kind of want to buy a new iphone, but I hate my iphone 8 a little bit less now. So yeah
Took me till I was like 25 to start thinking like this . Started feeling less stressful to just own something instead of being on a credit still use credit cards but I pay them in full every month. I can’t wait to finish paying off this vehicle though . Should have just bought a 2k beater or something
Every year probably not necessary but upgrading you are indeed getting, if not new features then improvements in performance. As apps scale up to utilise this performance the older phones have issues. This is coming from someone who has completely disregarded upgrading my iPhone. I still have an iPhone 6 from 2015. I had the battery replaced 2 years ago and otherwise it works and does what I need so I have not replaced it. But I only have to pick up my friends newer iPhone and use it for 5 seconds to see how much better it is, the screen, the camera, the speed. My iPhone 6 works fine but its like running Windows 10 on a 10 year old computer
That's why this time i will not be updating the iOS of my XS Max since every major update is getting heavier. Yeah its still new and still capable but i rather have a snappy phone with outdated OS. Basically stay on what os your phone is released with. That's just me though.
Mingming the problem is also the apps though, firstly some will not function anymore unless you update them and then the new versions of these apps are designed for the newer phones so that's where I find my phone will struggle and appear quite slow. That said the apps are still usable and as I said it's only when I use the same app on someone else's newer phone that I then realise just how slow my phone is running
Timothy Betts don't worry about the updates bro. They said that app updates will be 60% smaller which will help a lot in the long run since it will be lighter to load. My messenger app right now is only 35mb which was 200mb before i dont really remember but the difference was huge the app loads instantly now. Hopefully the trend continues so old phones dont suffer hahaha. Im using xs max btw. How about you?
I think the problem that I typically have is convincing myself reasons why I NEED to buy a new device when deep down It won't really change my life and after 3 days of having it, something better comes out and the process repeats again

The first time I seen ur video I had an iPhone 7 Plus after selling my 2020 SE and I dealt with that phone for 3 months (April-June) until I got the 12 pro I’m glad I did because I wasn’t so quick to upgrade I waited till I had money & the right time to buy it thanks Scott
Not to mention how much garbage is created by buying newer and newer unnecessary things. Who thinks about where all their trash goes. If it gets recycled or not when its put in a blue bin. There is a clear reason not to upgrade besides saving money and being satisfied with what works.
I used to use my phones like i use my shoes - until they get so bad that i need a change. I remember in college I had the same phone for 4 years before I had to retire it. then work phone 2 years before it died (product defect). I'm buying a new phone this november coz i will transfer to a different country and need a plan. And now I wonder...how long will I use that before I will want to upgrade? Will I be driven by the hype as well? I don't know. It is scaru

However the screen just busted for the second time and im ready for an upgrade. Nothing wrong stretching tech out for 6 - 10 years
We've got a spare S6 lying around and it's still absolutely fine, amazing phone, great screen, camera, cpu, build quality. But the battery's fucked. That's their ace in the hole. Sealed-in li-ion batteries that perish after a few years.
I had a dream that my iPhone XS Max was smashed in half while in my Apple case and I was like oh well I could use my iPhone 7 after watching your video but then I woke up and realised if that happened I have Apple Care hahahahaha. Thing is I feel Samsung after using it for 2 years the battery gets really bad and your kinda forced to upgrade. My partner has that issue every time.
The battery thing is the new trick to force you to upgrade to a new phone. There is no reason why there could not be two screws somewhere to open the phone.
I upgraded from JIO KEYPAD PHONE to REDMI 8A DUAL... It was a massive upgrade😁... I really needed it for online classes... I wish to use it for minimum 5 years
More easily said than done yes I fall into this I need the newest iPhone every year because last year’s model turns into the red headed step child but as for using the features on the new device never
You make a great point (cost savings being key) and will come across to most but I'm old school and for my "technological" comfort level, it's always better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it...

Totally agree with you, nowadays people are so bored, they have nothing to play, nothing to do, so they play with the all new dynamic island.
I have a small crack in my screen, and I don't mind it. Nothing worth changing the phone for. But I saw the screen at 1:22 ... That I could not live with. We use our phones everyday, like I use my glasses. Would I put up with shattered glasses?? Nope, replace it.
Other than this one point - the message is bang on. Great video!
I agree. Replacing the screen on older models is pretty cheap
I am still using 2016 phone. Sony Xperia X Performance. I am happy to this day. It is STILL my dream phone. The design is one of the most beautiful phone I've ever seen. I am grateful I bought it refurbished for 45 Dollars. It is 80% condition, some normal use by previous owner. But still I am using the same phone for a year and I still love my phone 😘
Just got the 15 pro max because we switched carriers and I am sticking with this one for a good 4-7 years.
Scott is spot-on, but he fails to mention that we are bombarded with advertising everyday. It isn't so easy, We are fighting billions of dollars of advertising from companies that know us better than we know ourselves.
That’s why videos like these are good reminders! It’s tough when Facebook and the overlords at Google know my next thought before I do. We just need to fight the urge!
Your channel is everything" mate. I've an iPhone 12 and was thinking about upgrading but I couldn't find a good enough reason why I should upgrade. It works perfectly!
I browse for a new phone today and see this video. I rethink about it and found that I may not really need a new phone. Thank you a lot.
Ive got an S9. It works great. One camera 12 megapixel camera and I'm happy. Takes great pictures and is snappy fast doing something.

People that put material possessions at the top of their priority list are missing out on life.
4 years and counting on iphone SE, had battery replaced last year, haven't seen any feature in latest 13 that would blow me away. If ain't broke,
i still use my iphone 7, i bought it last 2019 and it's a used phone, 2 years later, it's still in excellent condition! thanks for this vid
Loved your video Scott. Still using the iPhone 7 i bought in 2016!
Fark, about to buy iPhone 12 after the keynote tomorrow (Oct 14) but CZcams recommended me this. Thank you for opening my eyes
I only upgrade for certain reasons, better battery life and/or better camera. I just upgraded from the 6s to the xs, and I got both of my needs out it.
Still rocking my iPhone se as well. Although Apple had to replace mines after they broke it. trying to swap out the battery. Same great phone, that covers all my needs.
Team SE in the house!!! Well almost.... still trying to find one. I'm on "Andrew" for now😞
Still rocking with the 8+
This is a great content. I'm Still using my 3 years iPhone 8 Plus and there is no reason to dump it. I love Touch ID soooo much
I have an uncle who is rich asf . Richest member of our family that i know of ... he owned every sport car i imagined . owned multiple houses and so on , when i saw him a few months ago and was using an iPhone X , ... he only used the phone for what he needed for an didnt need ' the latest and greatest ' ... You would think someone like him would have an iPhone 13 pro max that is cranked up to the teeth to be top of the game
Naw man , he told me ' the phone does what i need it to do .
I’m new to your channel. Yow! your content are just amazing. Imma tune in more!

A strong 90% of people only upgrade every year to look cool and say they have the latest tech.
Keeping up with the jones is expensive, pointless 😂
I use my iPad 6th Gen to edit and upload my AMV’s to my CZcams channel it works perfectly fine I thought about trying to get an refurbished MacBook since I am on a fixed income but my iPad works so well when I edit so I scrapped the idea and decided to just stick with my iPad
What’s amv
@@anthonydarr2823 basically a compilation of clips from a certain show/movie mashed together with music
bro what software do you use to make amv's and where did you go to learn how to make them? i've had the idea on my mind for a while and i have some shit i really want to make so your input will be much appreciated!
Straight facts - now I thought of buying a secondary phone, so I'm buying a galaxy s10 plus. Sometimes waiting, is better than getting it now.
iPhone 13 mini user, got it in 2022 Jan & gonna use it for years to come. not gonna fall in the upgrade trap.
I think it comes down to the "wants and the "needs", trying to satisfy the ego and showing off to others.
Big facts I’m rocking iPhone 11 also u just buy a new case for it that’s it 💪🏾
@@CoolShades18 Yeah I got a new case after 3 years, had an otterbox symmetry and replaced it with a otterbox commuter.
This is why they got rid of the subsidy. I used to buy a new iPhone every 2 years. 200 bucks. I would sell it for 200 on Craigslist. Now you pay full price. Thats why I am finally going from a 8plus to 12 Pro max.
I am upgrading every four years; got my iPhone 11 in September of 2019 I just made sure it was 256gb and fully unlocked.
I was about to buy a new phone, thank you for I saved money and I appreciate what I have now 🙂
Love this video and thank you for your message.
True
My mom still has her galaxy note 9 from 2018 and she said she isn’t upgrading until the phone stops getting software updates
Instead of new phone every year, i would rather new gf every year yeah!!
Hell yeah that would be awesome
Simp
Thank god u didnt said buy new gf every year

my old iphone 7 is not that slow, maybe slower and i am little disappoint, but the major thing make me feel bad about it is the overheating issues, it overheat even though im watching youtube without charging, the battery cycle health decreses so quickly which forces me to change battery every 12 month, the power button dosent work (u cant turn the phone on when u turn off until u find power sources.) the overheating causes the one corner of the screen starts to feel loose when pressing. but overall the overheat feeling in the hand makes me disappoint the most. at this point even ios16 dont support it anymore ,so its time to change a phone.
Still using iPhone 6 from 2016!
don't kno why ppl r always after da latest n greatest smartphone... ever since i finished paying off my actual smartphone, my monthly telecom bills dropped significantly and i do not wanna go back to those times of expensive bills...
What I did:
- Give my homescreen and lockscreen a makeover and make it look cute and aesthetic
- Get my shattered screen fixed
- Get a new battery
- Get a supercute new phone case
Honestly I still kind of want to buy a new iphone, but I hate my iphone 8 a little bit less now. So yeah
You are right and every time the latest iphone came, it will lasts for 5 years to come.
That's why whenever I want an upgrade I buy a 2nd hand phone costs way less than a new one and I get 3 years of it
Took me till I was like 25 to start thinking like this .
You made me thinking thousands times before I bought a new phone , you are an honest man
.

I'm still using my samsung galaxy note 10 and I love it 😊
I think the problem that I typically have is convincing myself reasons why I NEED to buy a new device when deep down It won't really change my life and after 3 days of having it, something better comes out and the process repeats again
I am still using 2016 phone. Sony Xperia X Performance. I am happy to this day. It is STILL my dream phone. The design is one of the most beautiful phone I've ever seen.
Watching this on my 2012 macbook pro in 2021!!
It is scaru
Would like to upgrade, but most phones are a downgrade nowadays.
i had an iphone 5s , after one year of use the battery was dying after 3 hours of use in the morning dying while i was in school .. i waited this pain for 3 years and bought an iphone 7 .. my iphone 7 lasted more but still it didnt arrive at the end of the day.. i've iphone 11 now and man i can hae the battery for a long time now , and it's been 2 years .. i'm happy i upgraded :)
As long as you’re happy!
I`m one of those people ! I could have purchased the latest and greatest during my working life but I chose to invest and plan ahead so now I`ve retired early and enjoy life without anyone telling me where to be or go. Don`t be a sheep to the marketing wolves. Financial freedom is the best upgrade you can have !!
Hey Scott, just came across your video today. You've got yourself a new subscriber. Hello from Singapore 🙂 keep up the great work!
Thank you!!
I bought the 13 mini iPhone as I absolutely loved my iPhone 4s, and used it til it absolutely could not run on anything anymore and it was so glitchy when I finally gave it up! But I bought the 13 mini after having the iPhone XS Max for a while bc it reminded me of my most ever favorite phone! So I will be keeping this one for as many years as I can as I am so happy with it! Did I need it no but did my mind instantly get reminded of an old phone favorite yes yes it did!
You are a brilliant young man. Your parents did a great job raising you!
I've never been the type to get the newest of anything.. I always hop on the tech train (At least) late.. gaming consoles, phones etc.
I have a oneplus one ,, got it second hand off a coworker in 2016ish, been using it since. However the screen just busted for the second time and im ready for an upgrade. Nothing wrong stretching tech out for 6 - 10 years
I always tell this to my friends..but when you do they’ll say you don’t have money
Still using my iPhone 6s. Neat af.
i somehow needed this...thank you
We've got a spare S6 lying around and it's still absolutely fine, amazing phone, great screen, camera, cpu, build quality. But the battery's fucked. That's their ace in the hole. Sealed-in li-ion batteries that perish after a few years.
I have been using samsung j1 ace 2015 for about 3-4 years now. The battery is getting bad day by day. Hmm
I bought a Note 4 back in 2015.
I used it for 4 and a half years
Now i have a Note 10+. Im going to use this phone until it falls apart to pieces
Not upgrading your phone can also help lessen E-Waste.
I upgraded from JIO KEYPAD PHONE to REDMI 8A DUAL... It was a massive upgrade😁... I really needed it for online classes... I wish to use it for minimum 5 years
More easily said than done yes I fall into this I need the newest iPhone every year because last year’s model turns into the red headed step child but as for using the features on the new device never
Thanks you sooooooo much. You made me realize to live with what I have and to be happy with it 3:23. You saved me 300 bucks. Ledgend 👍🏻
You make a great point (cost savings being key) and will come across to most but I'm old school and for my "technological" comfort level, it's always better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it...
love it man. keep these coming

I feel like I haven't hear from you in forever LOL. HELL YEAH 6K babyyyyyy
Techno Eclipse yeah just on and off with social media. 10k by summer? Let’s fn do it
Good Job , I needed this talk
Nicely explained 🤠 really good 💛
After they upgrading they find it’s not that worth But the refuse to admit it so people don’t think they’re losers or something
this channel is so underrated
The only reasons to buy new phones are: battery degradation and manufacturer deliberately slowing down your device because of the former issue.
