Old school metal is the soundtrack of my youth. But I’m actually pretty happy the way metal is still going. I can turn on Helmet or Disturbed as easy as Metallica or Megadeth. I think the fans can be a bit too protective or insular over labels.

I grew up with Nu Metal and I love how it was still so heavy. Not sure what's up with new music nowadays but 2000's was cool with me. They never disrespected the old school way. 🤘🏼

One thing that Nu Metal truly brought to the forefront is the importance of drums and the drummer. Thrash and hardcore had AMAZING drummers but where often overshadowed by blazing fast guitar riffs and powerful chords.
Nu Metal having more open space for drummers showcased amazing musicians such as Joey Jordison, John Dolmayan, John Otto, David Silveria, and Michael Wengren

@@GregKhar-NU-Metalhead2000 id get why ppl think nu metal is just metal laced with hip hop influences (nothing wrong with hop hop its dope), since many of the mainstream nu metal bands are HEAVILY influenced by hip hop aspects in their more well known songs, but yea i enjoy nu metal more bc its has a lot more groove and experimental sounds associated with it :)

@@GregKhar-NU-Metalhead2000 Nu Metal has Hip Hop influences in their music theory even if the Hip Hop isn't obvious, but Hip Hop isn't the only genre that can influence Nu Metal. Possible influences in Nu Metal include Alternative Rock, Funk, and Hardcore Punk as well. Despite what people think, Nu Metal isn't just Metal music with a turntable and rapper, the fusion is much more varied and complicated than that.

I love the fact how different old school- and nu metal sounds from each other, but it doesn't feel like any of them are worse than the other. I personally more of a nu metal fan since I quite literally grew up with the genre (especially with Limp Bizkit), but I still respect the classics from the 70s and the 80s

Never understood why Nu Metal has gotten the hate it has over the years, maybe because of its hip hop influence and groove?
But as someone who loves both metal and rap, it’s the perfect segway between genres. No two genres sound better together imo.

Honestly both Metal and Rap are effectively cousins that share Jazz as a common ancestor going back far enough, so it only makes sense that they'd make great things when they come together.

Agree. Despite the hate, nu metal in general kept metal relevant with the general music listeners.
Back in the 2000s era, nu metal songs were relatively well represented on air. I can not say the same about metalcore these days.
Not even the rock channel play any metalcore in my country. But they did go back to metal of the 80s, 90s & early 2000s era.
