Are you from 50's? Dude, I really love your lifestyle. People like you is rare these days, ya know..
Very true i love his taste in music
I'm a simple man, i see King Crimson, i click
It baffles me how you have such a small pool of subcribers, i saw another guy who records vinyl reviews in a small room with a monotonous voice and no persona with almost a million subscribers and you have an amazing set, a great persona, and pretty incredible review skills and only ten thousand. Just goes to show that subscriber count means nothing, keep on making great vids!
LOL I agree this guy is a class act. All his reviews are very well researched and he articulates his reviews well.
Thank you. There was a time when I put more of my energy on Blip.tv which probably slowed my growth on CZcams.
Harrison Huff Who's this other yputuner you referenced?
Fantano is the man, even though i disagree with some of his reviews
FAST & BULBOUS he rarely does vinyl reviews tho
You truly deserve way more subscribers. Your video quality seems like it would come from a channel with 1 million+ subs. I wish more people would come to your channel. Keep up the good work!
thank you for the support!
So true love the production
Toe cutter thumb buster
Blue Cheer is awesome, and that's a sweet find. Worth a lil cash. I've got several more of their albums.
Jealous of that Strawberry Alarm Clock. Love mid 60s psych rock. If you don't have the Nuggets albums, get 'em.
And that Zombies album is great, and I think we already talked King Crimson.
Both that King Crimson and the Blue Cheer albums I bought from a collector who always sells the good stuff for decent prices. Even then, they cost me a little bit.
yeah I can imagine but those albums are worth it
I bought "Odyssey and Oracle" for $2 in 1969.
Strawberry Alarm Clock refers to a type of acid of the the day
That Blue Cheer joint truly is a stepping stone for metal for sure. I'd go so far as to call them more representative the 60s psych scene than Cream! Vincbus and White Room are two required pieces of history every record owner should have. What a killer album man, I'll definitely have to spin my copy after work today :)
Forgive me, are you referring to Wheels Of Fire by Cream when you say White Room?
Try a band called Heavy Jelly, from 1968. Talk about the first metal band.
Talking about Deep Purple. You got to get your hands on Deep Purple's Made in Japan. Deep Purple in their peak with performances that seriously out do the studio recordings and fantastic sound quality, even for live in 1972.
Hands down one of the greatest live records ever put together.
Noted, I'll keep my eye peeled for a copy
I Love Strawberry Alarm Clock
The braille is an awesome little touch
@Vinyl Rewind - "pen-tangle", like it's spelled. Argent produced an amazing single called "Hold Your Head Up" and you should check it out. Be well.
Pentangle reminds me of The Soft Machine.
"Vincebus Eruptum"="We Come Erupting". Pronounce "Vince see bus e-rup-tum". Started as a trio and known for ear shatterring concert because guitarist and bassist used four speakers a piece. The Seeds, on the other hand, were uneven in their songs. Skye Saxon, the lead singer, went into some off-the-wall cult and sporatically did shows afterwards.
I love that your video setting looks so 60's too. SO SO good.
thank you very much
Of course. You're a babe. Im from TO but I have a vault in LA with wax...are you based in LA?
Ha, my cousins are from TO. I'm an Eastsider, Silver Lake
I know of a silver lake in LA but not in the east side.
Hey, if you are ever here or I go to your side of town (traveller)...lets hang.
If you start in Hollywood, Silverlake is considered the Eastside, at least that's what I've gathered since living here. www.theeastsiderla.com/
Easily one of the best channels on CZcams. Heck, it's better than 80% of television channels. Awesome 👍
I think this is my favorite episode yet. So much good stuff, I don't know how could I have not known Strawberry Alarm Clock, they made awesome music in the late 60s. I've been listening to Incense and Peppermints for bout 4 hours now :D
haha, happy to spread the Strawberry love
Love these selections man! Also love your passion for the era in all its glory. One of my favorite channels i recently discovered!
love king crimson, and it's a shame that the new pressing doesn't live up to the original. keep up the awesome work!
Well, I wouldn't go that far, it's still worth picking it up, I was just expecting too much from it
3:58 it looks like Pet Shop Boys Electric on the shelf! Nice album!
Your copy of De Capo may have come with a mono sleeve from the factory, Elektra screwed up a lot and did that somewhat often.
I have copies of Strange Days by The Doors and Hello and Goodbye by Tim Buckley like that and I got those from the original owner who bought them new in 1967 and they have stereo discs inside.
Huh, that's really good to know, thank you. It honestly doesn't surprise me and I doubt most consumers even noticed
I never expect a re-release to sound anywhere better than an original.
Indeed awesome!! I started collecting records from the 60s not too long ago (because everything from my collection is from the 70s) so I’m on the way and I hope it could be as awesome as yours
this is the best channel on youtube right now, thank you dude
What a great episode so many classics in one sitting
Great finds!! Love that period of music!
Great episode. You’ve introduced me to a lot of bands, thank you!
Dude you have hear blue cheer's second album! It's so good
I've seen that Blue Cheer album a few times but for some reason every copy I've come across is around $90.
I actually got it quite cheap off someone near me! 20 pounds! Good condition too
I got a late 70s issue of them that seems to be identical but costs way less
yeah you like the good stuff, man that blue cheer record was a good find at a thrift store.awesome!
Awesome pick ups, best video of the year so far!
thank you
Blue Cheer were hugely inspirational to Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow, ect. Awesome find dude.
I saw the Zombies in Clearwater in 2016. Such a cool show!
"Paint it Black" is my ultimate favorite song from The Rolling Stones. For some reason I get a dark menacing feeling when I hear that song. Lol. 😈😂
My older brothers loved the show Tour of Duty and I was only allowed to watch the begining and that gave me a deep love for the song czcams.com/video/0z6fcd--354/video.html
Excellent productions.
I loved the review of these 60s classics, most of which I bought during my teens. You give a good account of every record, except for the Pentangle album. They were part of the British folk-jazz fusion movement spearheaded by Fairport Convention. Their first album is the one to track down: "The Pentangle" on Reprise (RSC 8001). On a related note, I'm currently reading a book called 1966: The Year The Decade Exploded by Jon Savage. The "September" chapter includes a solid study of Arthur Lee and Love. Highly recommended.
Thank you for the insight, I will certainly check out The Pentangle's debut
Nice finds, all are worth having
The good thing about having an older brother is that he turned me onto so many artists. He'd have to bribe me to listen by playing Bowie stuff mixed in lol. One band that still blows my mind is Gentle Giant. Another was Captain Beyond who I almost became their lead vocalist and also not easy to find due to the name alone but Stray Dog you can find them by also tying in Dreams in Junk. As always stellar review, your research is second to none.
Crazy, I don't know any of those bands, I'll have to check them out.
Really like your videos! I just subscribed. Will explore more of your posts. Hey, that Stones "Now!" is the best of their first five US LP's. (of course, Aftermath, which came later, blows all the others away...) The DC 5 were a great band - I grew up in that era, so I know first hand what the American culture was with the British Invasion. A wonderful time and the best memories. Best wishes to you!
Yay! This is, hands down, a favourite era of mine. My pressing of In The Court Of The Crimson King is produced by Discipline Global Mobile, Robert Fripp's label. I believe yours is the same? Supposedly, it is the best one out there. Also, the Braille bit - I agree, it makes the copy so much more special. Thank you so much for the video, Eric, I wholeheartedly enjoyed it.
Yes, it's the DGM pressing. I just hoping there was a version out there that was a bit more full, you know what I mean? Thank you for watching!
My grandfather has a Something New original pressing he got while in Germany when he was in service.
Hey..how did you end up with my record collection? BTW the Crimson album is really more about the songs themselves than the recording issues. I personally am in love with the drums BUT I am 63 years old and drums were not recorded as properly as they are today. Stop raiding my record collection!!!
Subscribed a couple months ago and really enjoy the show. I also like finding cool vinyl at thrift shops, garage sales, etc. It's what I'm interested in and your show is great so it's enjoyable to watch. I'm just curious, can you tell me where and how you store all your records? Thanks.
Luckily, I have the UK pink Island first press in excellent condition, I payed a pretty penny for it off ebay about 9 years ago, I had the later version with a pic of a island in the sea
.Classic Prog, in the top 3 of Prog IMO
Right in the old wheelhouse, Geek! Pretty fair synopsis of King Crimson. Not a huge fan either. SAC! Poppy goodness! Rolling Stones now, in MONO! Brilliant! I love these early Stones, their covers of the blues were fantastic. Aftermath has more of what you were looking for, more Jagger/Richards penned songs. O and O is one of THE best albums. I think it was fair to even call it a concept album. That Pentangle album is not bad either. It quite frequently is listed in 500 most own albums. Blue Cheer, good hard rock album. WOW! Love AND the Seeds. Two fantastic records, but don't let Kris at Dixieland farms fool you, Forever Changes is BETTER than Da Capo. You are right, it's a first press of the Seeds. I have a copy myself. Sometimes they put the wrong label on teh record so check it out first. it might be mono. KILLER!
Yeah, I think what holds Da Capo back is Revelation. I had to go check and the matrix numbers are for stereo but that was a good idea
Nice! My boss was childhood friends with Dave Clark
crazy
I have enjoyed your reviews. I think it would be great if you reviews Neil Diamonds Hot August Night. When I was a kid in the early seventies my mom had many LPs and I played them on the console stereo hi-fi.. it was an album that I really enjoyed as many of the songs had meaning even as a kid n the early seventies. I felt invited into singing many of the songs by Neil. Look to rekindle my LP collection, lost from years of moving from place to place.
I totally agree with you about the drums on In The Court. I never liked how they sounded and they keep me from really loving the music
Even I gave very little thought to the Dave Clark Five until I started getting records as VCLT and, wow, I was wrong - they are damn good. Aftermath - wonderful and I prefer the US version by far. I always thought that cover of the Argent record looked like the video game Tempest. Blue Cheer pickup in a thrift? Sweet. Love and The Seeds - Earhead Six/Bo's territory - both great records!
oh totally, it does have a vector graphic look about it
Dave Clark Five is considered to be the first "heavy" band.
Aftermath is the cats ass ....odessey and oracle is my favorite album just above revolver .... Your channel is great man ... I appreciate you a ton
thanks so much!
Cool finds there. Really dig the turtles find. Have a couple of there 45's. They are hard to find here up north. BTW are you going to do a review of this month's VMP album (Glass Animals)?
a little late to this but yes I did, I didn't get my copy until Wednesday
I believe that I read somewhere that the original master tapes for that King Crimson album were damaged somehow, so that may be part of the problem.
that would make a lot of sense
Great review of the Blue Cheer album. Certainly early "blues in a metal mood"... quite primitive and energetic, sorta rolling out the carpet for the Stooges. BC had a similar attitude. May I recommend a Blue Cheer related item... Randy Holden played on side 2 of their third album which was called "New Improved,". Check out an album called "Population II" just Randy and a drummer. It's very heavy. I think you'd enjoy it.
Oh yeah, I was talking to an ex Amoeba Music employee who was super excited because she just spent the most money on a record ever and that was for Population II. She was excited to have it, not so much how much she paid to get it. I still want to check it out. Thanks for suggestions.
Yes the first issue is a big ticket ($800 +) item. I think it was basically bootlegged - no official release for many years. I have a reissue which Randy signed - #24 of #25. It's been reissued several times since. Blue Cheer were known as the "loudest band on earth" - for proof do an image search on Randy Holden -one of the first images will be of Randy with his bank of 16 Sunn Amps. There are also some insightful interviews that can be found.
that's a great image
well when you get the UK version of Aftermath that would be a good versus episode to make.
My Aftermath copy looks exactly the same way, with all the white on the cover and the side is all torn up
funny how that happened
Great finds Vg! If you ever come across the 1968 Gem, "Eli & the Thirteenth Confession" by Laura Nyro, it's well worth picking up.
don't know it, thanks for the suggestion
You are in for a real treat then. You may have heard Three Dog Night doing "Eli's comin'' '", and The Fifth Dimension doing "Stoned Soul Picnic" - Laura Nyro wrote those, and many other big hits from the later '60s, and early '70's. (Alice Cooper is a big fan, and has referred to her as the female equivalent of Burt Bacharach.) Her original recordings are amazing, even better than the hit covers the radio played imho. And the album cuts are just as good, she's really fantastic! The album is being re released on vinyl in early October, I'll be happy to gift it to you, if you'd like.
I'd like to add that Todd Rundgren, genius that he is, also raved over Laura Nyro.
good to know
specificpaul Very true, Todd Rundgren is a big Laura Nyro fan. He also worked with her on her album "Mother's Spiritual". In fact many of the top artists of the time became her fans, and friends, and still speak fondly of her. And she continues to inspire young Artists today. She may not have been that well known to the general public, but she's certainly a Super Star to the Super Stars. Btw, I got the release date wrong, Eli, and New York Tendaberry both are scheduled for November 4th on vinyl. Got my pre order in, can't wait!
Awesome Strawberry Alarm clock album! Stones in Mono for a buck, pick it up even if beat up, if it`s still listenable! BTW Reprise is pronounced `reh-preeze``. Cool Turtles LP as well as all the rest of the video! I only have Hush on a 45, no LP yet!
I know, I keep forgetting that's how it's pronounced. Old habits die hard :P
how does a consistent album sound like?
Like Duran Duran or the Beatles.
You are so cool. I like your channel a lot. It would be nice if you reviewed some newer albums, but I love your shows the way they are. Subscribed!!!
Thank you. If you look around, you'll find my Pick of the Week which features new albums. Not really full of reviews, more of a taste
Men I'm so excited to see what album you choosed for Pick Of The Week ! please choose Nick Cave's new album
Tetragrammatron Records, which your original pressing of Shades of Deep Purple is on, was founded and owned by Bill Cosby.
I too didn't grow up in the sixties nor the 90s as a matter of fact I was born in 2002 my parents were born in the mid eighties you look like you're 30 something, and I must say that for a moment while I watched throughout the whole video it was almost as if I was actually in the 60s the setting or background your style of clothing it just felt like I was in the 60s just looking at this. Even though I don't have a record player if I ever get one I'll definitely check some of those out by the way no offense but I don't know his name cuz I didn't really watch LazyTown you remind me of that dude with the weird looking outfit with stripes I don't know who, but anyway it was what a pretty good video I really appreciate it I also watched your mini biography about Brian Jones, who was Brian Jones it was a good video I learned a lot about it and I actually did some research about Brian and I can identify myself in some ways with Brian I'm not going to explain but it's really sad to know he's not with us anymore and the way he was treated by those around him and the way he treated him self-sabotage himself, anyway good for you keep up the good work. Also if it makes you happy I subscribed keep up the good work.
My 50's-60's band was looking for new material and I rediscovered Strawberry Alarm Clock. It's actually amazing. I think their name was too ephemeral to carry forward. What a shame.
What is the website you mentioned for cataloging your collection and keeping track of what you have/ vs values?
I am a starting collector with 20+ vinyl records, (50-60 old jazz/blues that I don't know much about), and would like to start cataloging material.
www.discogs.com/ it takes a little bit to get the hang of identiflying your exact pressing but I'm sure you'll pick it up quickly
I really feel like, in terms of US 60's Stones records, mono pressings are more common than stereos in certain albums. I've seen three mono Aftermaths in person, one of which I own, and I also have a mono of December's Children and a REALLY BAD Rolling Stones, Now! I believe the rest of my 60's Stones are stereo pressings, and all I need is Let It Bleed to go full circle in their 60's vinyl records. Sadly, I can only hope to find a London pressing of their debut album (Mine is on Abkco)
Your videos are amazing, Satanic Majesties Request is a terrible album, drive safe.
I bet it has a lot to do with the kids who were buying their albums, didn't own stereo players yet and didn't see the point of paying extra for stereo.
Their Satanic Majesties Request is one of their best the USA mono is one of the rarest Stones lps was a short lived release on London and Stereo was pressed there after.
What the rarest most unique find you guys have had of lately? #MARQUEE #FEMMEFATALEALBUM #BLOCKSHAREINC #followforfollowback Like, Subscribe and Comment #marqueethe1
I just got `Hello` from Status Quo, it`s really beat up and i should clean it. So, how do you clean your Records?
btw, thx for these awesome videos ;-).
I actually use a Spin Clean when I have a bunch to clean, but if I only have one record, I use my Record Doctor. Thanks for stopping by
do you think you could do a vinyl rewind of a nine inch nails album
what album?
+Vinyl Rewind I'd have to say The Fragile. So cohesive and so detailed. The Downward Spiral is good too though
I don't know it but I do know Downward Spiral. What did you think of Johnny Cash's cover?
+Vinyl Rewind of Hurt? it's fantastic! the way Cash's tone of the song differs from the original is lovely.
+Vinyl Rewind as a big NIN fan, The Fragile is my favorite album. it's incredibly deep, layered, and detailed. more so than maybe any other NIN album
Hey bro I've got that King Crimson record I thought it sounded really really good but you know I don't have my original King Crimson record anymore to compare it to so I'll have to take another listen to the reissue but that one was authorized by Robert Fripp now it is a digital record so that's a little of a tell of the quality on those drums especially it's hard for digital to get the drum skins right that's a tell I've been making a lot of videos on my channel lately maybe you want to check it out I have just subbed thank you
Review Pretty. Odd. By panic! At the disco...
Please
I'll check it out
Sounds tinny....Maybe you need a new cartridge or new outboard phono stage...or both.... Epitaph is a great song.. ..
Check out the recent DC5 documentary, really great!
this one czcams.com/video/MyP4E48S5zg/video.html
That's it.
I watched it last night, I really liked all the context they gave. I just wish we had more interviews of the band like we do of the Beatles, but they did great with what they had
Vincebus Eruptum is latin for Blue Cheer
You ever seen return of the valley of the dolls geek?
*Beyond.
nope
+Vinyl Rewind it featured the strawberry alarm clock. You should watch it it's pretty funny.
Vin-Sib-Us / E-rup-Tum....at least that's how I always heard it was pronounced. By the way, that album in used condition back in 1982-83 was quite pricey as I recall.
Aftermath !! The US - Version is missing 3 imported Songs !! It's A lousy Wreck !!
I don't like drums on King Crimson debut too - 1 of the worst I've ever listen.
Somebody needs to re-create the King Crimson album from new performances. Too bad that there are so many problems with the material used to make these records. Hey, Brit Floyd reproduces the Pulse concert better than Pink Floyd, so It could happen. :)
Rob Wells www.discogs.com/Linear-Downfall-Spaceface-2-Stardeath-and-White-Dwarfs-And-New-Fumes-With-The-Flaming-Lips-Playing-H/release/3989861
The songs are on CZcams but the vinyl is ridiculously hard to find
thank you
Today's audience is caught off
by guard.
