Top Gear Rally is not based on the TV show. It's a sequel to Top Gear, a game for the NES from 1992, which was also unrelated to the TV show. Just a common expression for fast cars in a racing game.
SNES
@@guybrush3000 Playstation 2
@@OneEyeShadow xbox 720
Was it not originally on the amiga
@@scoopstacey3112 Na Bro it’s on the Atari Panther
There are five courses in this game.
The fifth is Strip Mine, which is a hidden course unlocked by winning every race in first place.
Yup. So you didnt beat the game =)
And, if you continue to race every season you get a different car unlocked. I remember there was a sphere, a cube, and some other weird objects... Back when it was new this game was top of the line.. I think I still have it somewhere
Also it's the best course where you can get the highest speed.
Wow. FIVE courses. Amazing.
@@inthefade They are long courses. A lot of racing games at this time had less than 5 courses, believe it or not, even on other systems (such as the Playstation), where they had more than enough space (because they used CDs rather than cartridges) to have been able to make a lot more.
This was one of my favorite racing games as a kid. Something about its physics made it really fun.
Dude I totally agree played this as a kid and loved it the drifting was great
This was my first game for N64!
Giocabilità tra le migliori su 64
I played it so much I wore out 2 controllers. When you get first in everything, it gives you some cool stuff.
I never played or heard about this game before this video, and I thought the physics looked very fun. With better course design, more courses, and the ability to interact with racers, this could've been a hit.
This was one of the first games I used to just let sit while I listened to the music. I would also custom paint all the cars and just casually drive around the courses like I lived there.
I honestly look forward to this every Friday morning
Thab about to hit us with 7 years of continuous content
What about Friday afternoons?
Sad. Get some hobbies
This was one of the games I spent the most time playing as a child. Love the game-play and music so much.
yeah me too. With my brother. And he gets it wrong. there is a fifth track :) strip mine. love this game.
This game series will be the One Piece of Gaming
lol no... it's the goosebumps of gaming
Strip Mine track, Beach Ball car, Cube car are also unlockable, and maybe 1 or 2 other things I forgot about. It's been so long since I played through that game I can't remember everything.
The helmet car
"game has no damage." Footage clearly shows a damaged car lol
The damage isn't that obvious, I guess, but the car model deforms the more you hit walls.
This series is so awesome because I was a kid in the '90s and rented so many of these games at Blockbuster. It's funny to see them again
The racing game I'm most excited to see is Cruis'n USA.
Same, I adored that game as a kid and am excited to see Beast play it.
Did you ever play Cruis'n World? The sequel on the N64. The reason I ask, is because it's so unbelievably better in every single way that I can only assume like me, most people would feel it over shadow and replace Cruis'n USA in their memory. I can't play cruisn USA after playing it because it makes USA feel like it sucks so bad.
@@shaun8062 Yeah, okay. Cool.
We're looking forward to Cruis'n USA.
I played a lot of it on arcade
I'm not looking forward to hidden boobs bouncing behind an ugly grey t-shirt.
Top Gear Rally was my jam back then. I got it just for the car customization feature. It was so cool and no other games did it. Also the weather looked so realistic back then.
1080 snowboarding is one of the best games for the 64, looking forward to the next video
One of my favorite games as a kid!
iirc it was the last good snowboarding game to come out till the PS2 came out...which had SSX as a launch title. IIRC coolboarders was the psx snowboarding game.. and there was another somewhat popular 64 snowboarding game, but I think 1080 was the best one for the 64...unless you're counting snowboard kids which is more of a mario kart type of game than anything else.
Snowboard Kids 2 was my fav
I loved top gear rally as a kid to me the car physics were great the way it handled and would rollover
I REALLY love special touches like the Milk Truck. It shows that someone was having some fun making the game.
There is a 5th secret track, but you have to get 1st place on every race/season, and that is REALLY hard. Even with that, this game probably needed one or two more tracks. I feel the physics are too floaty too. I loved this game as a kid, my brothers and I used to paint a car like a cop car and play cops and robbers, so much fun.
The Top Gear games actually have nothing to do with the show, it's a japanese racing game franchise, they made one of the first racing games on the SNES
The Top Gear game franchise isn't actually affiliated with the Top Gear hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, and in fact predates the TV show by about a decade.
Are you effing kidding me?! As a reward for playing this repetitive monster you get a MILK TRUCK?! WITH SHOT STATS???!!!! Your wholesome reaction made me smile though l0l.
the rpg's are going to take so much time
im stoked for quest 64
Not too many though on N64.
This game has absolutely nothing to do with the show 😂
Unless there's a hidden bonus level where you race a fighter jet or run some caravans off the road!
Great series man, looking forward to the next one!
Top Gear it's a series of racing games that started on SNES
New favorite series!!
Keep going thab, also,
keep giving more personal feeling about the game you play this is what we like to hear
Hey Beast, love this series!
Do you plan on setting up a website with all the games and ratings and videos to the games?
Kinda like Nesmania?
I remember seeing this in a game magazine and thought it looks sweet. I liked the snow and seasons, and the physics were pretty cool too. I remember making an nWo race car.
There are five courses. Have to get first on all of the last regular season. Its called the stripmine and is by far the best track
*keeps winning races
"I found 'wall strats' which help you win"
*finished 3rd
👌
This series is amazing. Its like the greatest challenge run ever attempted
The only Top Gear game I really enjoyed was Top Gear 3000 for the SNES. It was a futuristic version where you could upgrade your car based on winnings from each of the races. iirc you could dmg cars in it too, and would have to spend money on repairs if you did poorly.
This is my favorite series on CZcams. I really hope you complete the full set. It’s gonna take 7 years!
I owned this game back in the day. I had lots of fun with it, despite only having four courses. There are more cars to unlock if you race through Championship mode a few more times, but not much else on top of that. My favorite was the helmet car, which was a car with a giant football helmet on it that had maxed stats. The main draws of the game at the time were the different weather effects and the custom paint tools. Even though the game did have a small amount of content this was still a cool trip down memory lane for me!
There is a fifth course you can unlock, which is also the best course. Shame you never got to play it.
Snow in the Desert. I love the fun and fearless 90s video game devs. Something like that would never pass the committee these days.
The decal creator in this game can be a lot of fun. You can also just change the color scheme of any existing livery with the d-pad and c-buttons. There is also a bonus Helmet car and Beachball car to be unlocked somehow. This game has some pretty fun cheats to mess around with as well. I love this game despite of its light content! They don't make 'em like this anymore and probably never will. Thanks for playing. Great episode! And yeah, that wall-ride basically breaks the game. I wish the devs would have changed the physics on that.
This game actually looks pretty impressive! The handling seemed sharp but smooth (hard to tell from a video though) and the weather systems were really well implemented
In my opinion it was the best "realistic" racing game for N64 at the time
This is such a great series.
Love this series!!
To be fair, one of the biggest standouts to me as a kid was just how relatively long the tracks were. When your 12 year old self is used to 30 second lap Mario Kart tracks as the norm, 3-4 minute (yeah I know you finished em faster but we all sucked more as kids back then) laps seemed really crazy.
This is an incredible series
Day 197 of appreciating Thab’s content. I really need to be on time for these videos.
One of my most favorite N64 games, loved the music too
"I just drove up a tree"
This is why I watch you Thab, it's for ridiculous moments like this.
Completely forgot about about this game from my childhood, so cool Thab!
Also, in racing games they call it ‘wall riding’. Pretty close!
I am pretty sure that this game was NOT affiliated with that "TOP GEAR" TV Show. I HIGHLY doubt it. BUT I might be wrong. LoL.
I loved this game soo much I love this guy keep it up bro
This is my favorite series of all time. Lots of subscriptions but this always takes priority!!
Played this game a lot when I was young. Mainly went and unlock the Helmet car (which flips A LOT when crashing) and try to climb mountains with friends or see who crashed the hardest!
Love these
Mechanics and physics look pretty solid!
3:00 Truly spoken like someone who has only ever played Mario Kart or similar for racing games 😆
Nothing like some good ol' wall grinding. The classic racing game strat
Hey Thab, my friend Eric recommended you adjust your video titles to mention that you're not just beating every N64 game but reviewing them as well. Since learning about these games is a key piece of the value prop for the viewer. Just a thought. Looking forward to 1080!
I love this serie
Let's go, still the best series!
Can't wait for a game I've heard of besides of all things Superman 64. Jk, I know they're random and I've learned a lot about new games which I always like. Love the channel and the n64 series. Much love 😊😊😊😊😊
as a uber nerd who is also the son of a late model dirt track driver and from a racing team with roots back to the moonshine days i get fkn tickled at you and racing games, since naturally these were the games i grew up buying, the nascar one fkn had me in stitches
Love this series - enough to leave a comment.
Your wall strats are legitimately real, a recent NASCAR race was decided by a driver using your technique and it got him into the championship race.
You missed a golden opportunity to make a ton of cash to have donations choose the next game. Nothing like people fighting/burning money for the top spot.
Genius.
I LOVED Top Gear Rally when i was about 9 and 10 years old, holy nostalgia
My favorite thing to do in this game when I was a kid was to just use soft suspension all the time and have a laugh bouncing around at like 150mph
This game has a killer OST for a simple rally game.
This game is NOT affiliated with the Top Gear TV show.
How do you not have more subscribers? You should get a medal or something for attempting such a thing.
The custom paint jobs were awesome. I spent a ton of time making cars
The cars have a nice feel if you learn the controls. You have to let the gas before bumps or tighr corners that may also have bumps, so it doesn't fly. I can take 1st place in Desert easily with any cars this way.
To me, I never really liked 'Mirror mode' because I'd much prefer if the option was a 'Reverse mode' because sure it's the same track, but it honestly does feel different enough doing a race track backwards!
Top Gear and Top Gear 2000 were popular racing games on the SNES. By Gremlin Graphics who a lot of staff started Sumo went it closed.
That's one of the games I played a lot back then. Surely felt like a much bigger game back then.
I'm starting to think there's a good reason we haven't heard of most of these games...
Well I've never heard of you. Lol
You must just be young. This was a well known game, and series.
@@wintermute8315 Yes! I remember it got covered a lot.
I am an n64 generation and yes, most of the games outside Nintendo and it’s first party developers were absolutely awful
Yeah. A lot dogs with N64 and Super Nintendo
Of course Thab can grow a perfect Luigi ‘stache
I loved this game.it was awesome paired with the adjustable steering wheel
haha i remember the soft locks. so frustrating as a kid!:-D
One of my fav racing games on the N64!
Not related to the UK show, Top Gear, but there was a franchise, if you can call it that, of Top Gear racing games going back to the Sega Genesis. The original Top Gear racing game was insanely fun & you could do co-op story mode, so that if only one of you qualified / won the race... you both advanced to the next race & did not need to try again.:
Fun fact, not only does this game have the milk truck but it also has a cube (like a literal cube) on wheels, and a beachball with beachball wheels lol
Rally racing has staggered starts
My all time favorite raving game.
I loved this game so much.
Lol. The milk truck! 😭
Top gear overdrive is the best on in the series with a killer soundtrack.
I know that I'm very, VERY late to comment, but if you're disappointed with the amount of tracks in Top Gear Rally, play the original Top Gear on the Super NES : there were a total of 8 countries with 4 unique tracks in those. And then 3 difficulties that made the CPU faster and added obstacles. There was also Top Gear 2 with even more tracks.
And God those games were really hard.
11:09 favorite moment
i didn't understand the naming convention for each car myself as a kid hahah. But the names for each of the cars loosely correspond to their IRL counterparts. For the 5 people on the planet that care:
ES - ford EScort
NS - Nissan Skyline
RS - ford RS200
SP - toyota SuPra
PS - PorSche 959
M3 - bmw M3
IP - subaru ImPreza
LD - Lancia Delta
CE - toyota CElica
This game was such a poor follow-up to Top Gear 2 on the SNES, which was amazing.
Just started watching you, 👀 😌 😎 good content bud keep it up! 👌 got my sub.
Top Gear? More like Top Content!
Great idea for a series, there is a 5th track in Top Gear Rally, the strip mine, can't remember how you unlock it though.
This game is awesome
Many games at the time had even fewer than 5 tracks, even on systems which had CDs instead of cartridges (such as the Playstation).
cant wait for top gear overdrive
Oh dude! Beetle Adventure Racing!
OH DUDE RUSH 2049 I FORGOT ABOUT THAT YUSSSSSSSSSS
I know wall strats from another racing game I used to play: re-volt
hey is test drive still around? that game was pretty cool....
My first game ever. this brings back memories :)
When I was a really little kid our junkie uncle came up with a bunch of bootleg N64 games and one he had like 20 copies of was a cocaine addiction simulation. It was like SIMS but if your Sim is a junkie.
My favorite rally car racing game on N64
Turok 2 and Body Harvest will be hard
Darn CZcams didn't notify me of this one!
I used to love this damn game!
