  • My first time surf casting off the main, stony beach in Napier NZ. I always love trying out new spots and unknown territory. Managed to pick-up a feed though! Catch and cook vid - with food at the end.

should trim down your bait size to ensure further casting distance but good catch on the kahawai

thanks mate! yea a little kayaking life vest eh. because I wasn't familiar with this beach and was told it was dangerous (and I had one in my car for the inflatable) thought was safer to wear it eh.

Cheers mate!! Yea somewhere in the middle I talk a little about it eh. Penn SSV liveliner 8500. Quite heavy but ridiculously strong and hardy eh and EIGHTEEN (18) kg of drag. I have 2x 8500s and a 4500. In my opinion they're 10x better than the bait runner equivalent haha. Also very reasonable price 🤙

@@fisheatrepeat oops you got me - skipped to the fish catching part... LOL. Yeah the Penn Reels are pretty good. I'm currently using a spinfisher 3500 for softbaiting off my kayak.

Hey man not tryna be that one smart ass but for the love of plz never let your reels sit in the sand its just as bad if not worst than soaking it in salt water, the sand will work its way into the reel and begin grinding it up from the inside and one day it'll size up at the worst time

Hey mate, I'm gunna have to politely disagree eh. These penn liveliners are as hardy as hell. Ya open the spool wipe them out and they're fine. I only use gear I can hammer if it falls in the sand, gets soaked in the sea so be it. I don't want to spend money on reels if they can't handle the tough stuff these reels are about 6 years old now. I always clean and rinse when I get home but when I'm actually fishing the reels better be able to take an absolute beating 🤙. None of my reels have ever seized on me and I do get them serviced if they start showing a bit of wear 👌.
      Appreciate the comment tho

@Fish Eat Repeat NZ 키위 상남자 just giving out advice m8, ive had a slammer 3 that seemed up in less than 6 months and when I opened it my so called water resistant reel had fine bits of sand u Der the rotor and inside the drag, I called the shop I got it from and they didn't help much besides telling me it was basically my fault. Do as you wish m8 this is just the way an angler to me should look after their gear

@@1ROWDY35 really? That's disappointing? Is that in NZ or overseas? Yep definitely wasn't taking offense mate I just meant, things happen surfcasting and I don't want to worry too much about it getting filled with sand etc while I'm out there 👌. Also I should add I have noticed the slammer seams a bit less hardy to the sand and salt than the liveliners, possibly because it's a more advanced reel or for topwater applications as well etc but it has shown signs of wear faster than my liveliners have eh
