    Coming up, Mark flies a bed sheet.

    awesome video mark, kind of reminded me of the old single surface quicksilvers back in the day.

    That's something you'll notice about single skin gliders Mark is that I refer to them as "flopper" landings ... They lack flare authority and all of them are like that... But if you give just a little bit of power when you're coming into land it's a much easier landing... So don't run out of gas with that wing 😏👍 unless you like flopper landings😊... Nice wing and congratulations

    It is my understanding that the attached metal pin stored in the center leading edge is to anchor the wing in the snow to keep the wing from sliding down the slope when setting up for launch. It is a paragliding wing after all.😉

    BTW: I love my Grasshopper for low/no wind launches. I am able to reverse launch by just walking backwards ..... not doable with my Spyder26.

      Someone just informed me of that with those pins. That's actually really cool. I've only had a few instances of my wing sliding down a hill while paragliding, but I could definitely see it coming in handy on steep snow

  • @paraglidingprospector

    That little metal pin looks like the same pin we use for paraglider towing training. I have towing bridals which have that same pin attached. When I get up to altitude, I “un-pin” by pulling a handle attached to that little metal pin. Hope this helps! 🙌🏼 Wings up dude! 🤙🏼

      There are a lot of them. I was just informed they're for alpine snow launches. You can pin the wing to the snow so it doesn't slide down. Pretty neat

      @@MarkHuneycutt oOoooOoh that’s interesting. Thx for the update. That’s smart and MUCH better than packing on a little snow.

    Nice, it always surprises me when I see these wings. How do they fly. The flare authority is a big problem though

    • @MarkHuneycutt
      @MarkHuneycutt  Před rokem

      Flies fine. Flare authority does suck but this is also a large wing for me

    My Niviuk Skin 20sq.m. is rated 85-110kg AUW (flown @100-105). Single skins are the future, but what sucks is how they flare on landings (they practically don't). With a Top80 Miniplane on my back, I'm gonna brake my legs one day. Even when freeflying, the landings are HARD in zero wind.

    • @MarkHuneycutt
      @MarkHuneycutt  Před rokem

      I wasn't expecting that. I'm going to keep practicing the landings but will probably end up coming in foot drag style

    I’m a pilot, and thanks to people like you and tucker, I’m hooked on the idea of learning paramotor. I saw the link for the helmet/mic you use, what radio are you using?

    • @MarkHuneycutt
      @MarkHuneycutt  Před rokem

      For VHF transceiver I use the Yaesu FTA450L. 2m radios - Baofeng UV5R is popular

    It's best to land with a little throttle on those single skin gliders

    • @MarkHuneycutt

      Thanks. I think that's the habit I'll adapt. Just come in foot drag style

    That’s so cool ! Random question do you have to get like a permit or a license for them ? And how hard is it to find spots your allowed to fly around ❤🇨🇦🍻🤘🏻🍻

    • @MarkHuneycutt
      @MarkHuneycutt  Před rokem

      No licensing required but schooling is a recommendation. Depending on where you live, it can be hard. You either buy land, use an airport, or request to use someone's land (what you see in this video)
