    Your tyres sound like they are quite hard. 40psi ish. Have you tried lower pressures, especially if you run no-tubes. I'm 13stone and run at around 20-23psi. Loads more grip and smoother over that sort of terrain. Cheers

    Great video Andy; there's so many legal trails on Helvellyn and all of them are cracking although they do range in difficulty somewhat.
    The first climb up Patterdale and Dollywaggon, that's the one I suggested to you as a descent. Dollywaggon beats you up but from the tarn down to Patterdale (past the climbers hut) is just sublime as a descent.
    Glad Ian is ok after that tumble, I reckon we've all crashed like that over the years where your front wheel gets caught on a rock and before you know it, you are cart-wheeling into a load of rocks.

    • @TrailFinder
      @TrailFinder  Před 3 lety +1

      Now I’ve seen it with my bike eyes on I would love to do that descent. And I have a much more capable descending bike now. Think I’ll be doing all combinations of helvellyn . I like the look of birk side as an out and back ride. May do that one next/soon

    • @Stopadoodledoo
      @Stopadoodledoo Před 3 lety

      @@TrailFinder Birk Side is lovely but it does have one seriously steep rocky section and a lot of the dreaded paving on it. One I have done is up Keppel Cove, down Birk Side, up to Grisedale Tarn (via Great Tongue) and then finish with the trail down to Patterdale. Bloody awesome but a fair amount of effort 👍

    Some good riding there, you know it's gnarly and loose simply by the sounds of the tires on the stones and the grunts and groans 😉 great video, really enjoyed it, glad your buddy was ok, the fall gave some perspective as his bike rolled down on his head 😱 keep em coming. Very well ridden mate. Brings back such happy memories of my ride in September. The GoPro does not do the descent justice. Whatever your're seeing on camera is at least 5-10 times stepper in real life and those rocks are big and sharp!! We did the same descent but did a slightly different way up due to one of the lads not really wanting to hike a bike an e-bike. Enjoyed every minute of the video, made even more enjoyable after having ridden it!! QUALITY :-)

    • @TrailFinder
      @TrailFinder  Před 3 lety +1

      This way is the easy way around biking wise. Nothing to techie. The way you did it is the touch way. You did great riding down dolly wagon .
      After my recent trip to the lakes I’ve deciding to transition back to flats. As I’m chickening out of technical sections due to been attached to the bike.
      I saw your video of you going back to flats.
      How are you finding them now. I went out for the 1st time yesterday and found it tough.
      Picked up a lot of bad habits with the clips. Main one is picking up the rear wheel with the clips. Yesterday my feet just kept coming off the pedal. Are you and the bike as one now?

    • @HallMarc_Trails
      @HallMarc_Trails Před 3 lety +1

      @@TrailFinder yes, it took a few weeks to get used to them, I was lifting my feet off the pedals a lot on climbs too haha, drops were the difficult one as you don’t want to be doing that, remember to keep your heals down and you should be fine, only took a few rides to adapt to be fair but technical sections are a lot easier since I changed back, you won’t regret it.
