- On this week's episode of Americano, Freddy Gray sits down with journalist and Spectator author Ed West and political science researcher Richard Hanania to discuss last night’s friendly chat between Trump and Musk, the response from the Kamala-Walz campaign, and whether Trump should even be on X ahead of the election.

Free Speech is one of the requirements for Free Thought. It's that simple.
Sure, that doesn't mean that which is said cannot be nonsense or illogical or even dangerous.
For example. This free speech (czcams.com/video/d5Qe4h7KQ7c/video.html)
lead to this (czcams.com/video/Iludfj6Pe7w/video.html).
There is no free speech without offending,
One of the reasons why left leaning platforms users don’t talk a lot about trans issues is they’re terrified to say something wrong for fear of being cancelled by their tribe.
The prosecution of speech crimes in the uk has resulted in me loosing faith in the legal system in the uk. The whole legal apparatus is undoing untold reputational damage to the uk, this needs to be halted immediately. The citizens of the uk must feel like they would be tried fairly should they find themselves on the wrong side of the law, irrespective of their skin colour and political beliefs.
We can only pray the Court of Appeal sorts the mess the lower courts have made out. Some extremely troubling decisions and sentences.
A brilliant interview and extremely engaging. Felt very comfortable and intimate. Left the lefties spitting feathers as usual.
If you're against Trump, ask yourself, which would you prefer for the UK?
A president who loves the UK, or a president who hates the UK?
We have a Prime Minister who hates the UK.
I’d prefer no president for the UK, especially one that is a traitor. However, I also wouldn’t want one that supports open borders, so 🤷♂️
one that hates the UK after all we had Obama before
@@nickelmouse451 Who's the traitor? And why?
You don't have any choice, one or the other will be president.
The question was, which do you prefer.
Neither isn't an answer.
@@rokketron Trump is a traitor (to the USA, not to my country) for failing to peacefully transfer power. It's all there in the indictment (it's on the PBS website for all to read). Even his defence attorney isn't arguing that he was right about the election being stolen, the defences he's floated are things like (i) foreign actors led Trump astray, and (ii) "a technical violation of the Constitution is not a violation of criminal law" (direct quote). So, yes, my preference would not be for a traitor.
You're right that it will be one or the other, and I don't envy the choice (I hate Harris's border policy, her ridiculous stances on the police, and her furthering of the DEI agenda. I also think the way that Democrats have run cities (recently) is shocking and awful - they basically incentivise criminals to rampage with their terrible bail policies.) But a voter always has a choice to vote for one, the other, or neither. In which case, 'neither' is absolutely an answer, and likely the one I would pick.
I am no rich man and Trump served me well as President so your statement is refuted. Had my best years in 2019 2020 and am back on welfare. Can't wait for him to come back and make jobs available.
and US issues are what the US president should get elected on what they do globally is secondary
@@graveperil2169 Unless those global issues already involve the US. Apparently profits are a great motivator for foreign interventions.
@@Supperconductor global security is good for business, and why the US became the world's police force after WW2 and bailed out the UK and Europe. If not for the loans the UK took out there would be no UK.
@@nuqwestr tats why the UK should have made peace with Germany, Instead we sold our souls to the US and got stabbed i the back for thanks
@@nuqwestr The UK weren't "bailed out"
If there were no UK, The US would be totally different today!
It was a little bit weird to see people think it isn't weird to have a man fight women in an Olympic women's boxing event.
@@seppomuppit except that's not what happened
Wasn't man tho, was it. She is a woman with a genetic condition. Still don't think she should be allowed to fight, but the MAGA part of the conservative coalition is just being straight up rude to her at this point.
Compare thus to the Kamala interview… ah wait
Imagine if networks declared who they donated to, would it then be wrong to be interviewed by supporters?
Frankly, it is not surprising that Trump has to fight against a few of the bigger main stream media channels. He is pretty obnoxious, and that's not from what THEY say... its from what HE says. He cant seem to answer any tough questions and that is exsasperating. He makes really dumb claims. Like he is the peace president. Does he really think that his actions had no bearing on what is going down right now? 🙄 And just as a woman: If I were American I would just NEVER vote for that guy. I have some friend in America who vote for him and when I ask the women, they give me some answers that only make sense if I belive they have no clue about any of his policies.
As a black person let me just say Kamala ain't my kinfolk......
#KAMALAAINTBLACK....
I praise both Trump and Musk
Old twitter was not biased at all. The Hunter laptop proved that.
Who is telling the truth and how do we know?
FFS fix the arms on your chair 😀
Can't wait for Kamala and Donald debate, better than any movie:)
CNN is very clear about supporting any left wing candidate, if it is fair for them to run the debate, it is fair for right wing voters to interview a candidate
the hypocrisy is breath taking
In relation to?
@@LuisCarruthers Are you actually trying to get an reasonable answer from these morons?

I'm not a conservative but I respect Hanania's intelligence and insight
Like the 'interviews' from the old days: "has the Prime Minister got a message for the nation?" Unleash Andrew Neil on Trump ... that would be a great watch. Looking forward to the Trump-Harris debate nevertheless. Think he'll make mincemeat from her. There is no longer a Plan B for the Dumocraps ... she's as good as it gets now.
Good episode. Camera angle makes Freddy look like a little hobbit next to his guest 😂
Britain First! and I live in Chicago
Whilst the subject matter of the discussion was interesting, I'm afraid that I found the participants seeming to have difficulty constructing a coherent sentence, which much diminished the value of the discussion.
From the USA! I don't care what the English think! Move a!omg you English and carry on! We are free to speak!
We need Trump! Come join Reality!
I will assume that your two guests come from a place of real belief on what I just heard from them. But what I find astonishing is the trivial nature of both their responses. I think one of your guests did at least acknowledged the nonsensical way humans are processing political battles, like a high school competition. I think both of their world views on the British riots, weird people, right wing crazies, are not connected to suffering people, therefore have no understanding and no compassion for regular people who are forced to live with the decisions of elites. Both the elites and the people that circle around their world, for the most part, never experience the day-to-day problems of trying to absorb another culture or get their head bashed in by someone in the wrong league. Listening to them reminded me of what a jaded world must’ve looked like, when the Romans were providing bread and circuses to their people, until they finally collapsed. Marie Antoinette and the king of France, who weren’t paying enough attention, until the guillotine met them. And the autocratic leaders from the early 20th century, who did not understand all the suffering from the wars they started, until the Russian revolution came. Unfortunately, the world that will unfold for me and my kids will have a very similar result. Although it’ll showcase differently, humans haven’t changed over the millennia. They love power and trivial things and focus on things that don’t matter, and don’t care or pay attention to things that do, until it is too late. In a world where humans think they can do almost anything, their basic nature of hedonism comes through. I dare say neither one of your guests really heard what Elon said when he was talking to Trump about why a lifelong moderate democrat like himself is supporting him.
Well said!
So a billion ''weird' viewers of Musk and Trumps '' boring '' podcast .
Great discussion on free speech, etc.
But what's really interesting is that at 1:12 and various times throughout the piece, we see what must be known around the office as Freddy's Chair. Worn down at the arms, it may be falling apart.
You wouldn't see that in an on-camera interview in a Manhattan office. No way. So, we know we're in London, for sure.
Thanks for the geographical marker, Freddy.

As for those foaming at the mouth thinking you can arrest/jail EM in the UK you are misguided.
Open borders ia definitely better for the middle class 😂
I was interested how the conversation moved to the subject of the use of the word "weird" towards the end of the Podcast . Forgive me but have we all become so used to his [Trump's] behaviour that it has lost its currency? Perhaps this is why he is currently floundering. Perhaps there never was anything else ? Republicans would seem to have just been coasting on the socio - psychological waves he has generated. If they are not careful and don't start paying attention they will find themselves stranded. My advice would be that they better start doing some work and swim towards more solid ground. - pity so much has been so churned by some of them that it is now quicksand It is weird that they could be so careless - you know: Act as if they couldn't give a damn.
Spectator called President Trump a negative name. Oh really!!! As for Project 2025 is not a President Trump thing. You need to do your research .
Elon retweeted a fake Telegraph article - what a genius 🤣🤣
It was a chat.
Where did you get these two commentators from ?
To care about POLICIES is weird ???
It says a lot about Western civilization that the choice for US president was Joe Biden patently bordering on senile, Kamala Harris the cackling ***** (I really had to moderate my language 😂), and Donald Trump a thin skinned egoist.
Where Donald Trump is the best of the three 😂.
Kamala Harris ... frankly She is surely better than Trump? Anyways I think that if they do not address the widening wealth gap that is dramatically widening in the whole of the West, none of the parties will avoid a major conflict. Maybe invite Gary Stephenson? BEcause I feel that currently every poor bastard is being blamed for this issue, when all we need to do is to follow the money.
@@louishiggins8881 Trump, "thin skinned" wow! 🤣🤣🤣
Kamala has a bad laugh? Oh no! The horror. Jesus if that's the best you can do.
Donald Trump is a convicted rapist, scammer, and failed businessman (bankruptcy 4 times?) who has bullied minorities and undermined his own government probably into the 3 digits of occurrences. He also did the small thing of trying to overthrow the government and overturn the vote. Thank god for Mike Pence at the time.
But yes, Donald is for sure the best of the three. Give me a break.
High light of the week is now watching Freddy Gray trying to defend Trump in these videos 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Most interesting, fascinating conversations. More please.
Pegasus, mossad, starmer, AIPAC, zelenskyy - have a look!
Wait, am I watching RT?
Don't you mean the "weird" left?
Snarky resesentment by failing media ... With Spectator repeating @democrat attack lines.
It doesn't sound like Trump...he has a lisp?
do you know how weird you sound when you use the word woke
I would rarely disagree with analyst Peter Zeihan, who is one of my top sources for info. Zeihan has said that Harris is a guaranteed win, mainly because Trump has so alienated Independent voters.
(Also, Independents don't answer polls, which are pretty useless at this stage, and arguably in general).
I just find it difficult to believe (although I'm not happy about Trump) that such a non-candidate as Harris could get the votes.
Maybe Michelle Obama will be the next swap/pick, which might actually work for Dems, albeit yet another candidate I myself wouldn't want, from either side.
I swear I'm moving to Argentina.
I love it when pundits make wild assertions without any tangible examples, and they sure as hell never dive into the meaning behindbanything, beyond whatevr spin they want to put on it.
It's all so exhausting. But maybe that's the idea.
Why was trump slurring in this interview? He seemed out of it, well more than usual
Why does the intellectual class have to deride conspiracy theorists. Very close minded. I see CTs as offering an alternative view...thinking out of the box and creative.
Because conspiracies aren’t fact based and purely conjecture. They aren’t meant to be taken seriously.
@@Spantat I'm not saying.they're fact based. I said they offer an alternative view.
you seem big on hurling dismissive pejoratives around, Foer me it's off-putting. Please make your case.
i think triggernometry is a more evenhanded channel. perhaps check how they do things.
If you cannot recognize astroturf, your analysis will be rather off base.
Extremism, LOL. Did everyone read the political theory on normalism. Did you read about Leninism ? How come extremism is a oneside scale, where the opposite is always Leninism. ;)
Noooo
The Trump Musk interview was actually just an episode of Beavis and Butthead. Two giggling idiots, rambling incoherently, spouting mean things about people and awkwardly squirming through juvenile fantasies.
But your analysis here is ridiculously bad - amongst many journalistic failures, you don’t mention the absolutely unhinged lies that Trump tells and that Musk didn’t challenge of course. Doesn’t The Spectator care about the truth or facts?
@@aquaticape68 What lies are those?
What lies?
@@MarcusCorbett Everything he says is a lie - but here's an example: Trump claimed, “Our crime rate’s going through the roof.”
Facts First: Trump’s claim is false. Both violent crime and property crime dropped significantly in 2023 and in the first quarter of 2024.

I understand that this particular event warrants analysis, but, could it be any more boring? Neither Trump nor Musk has anything interesting to say in this exchange. This is all a big yawn. Hah! Someone just said “boring”.
