    I literally feel like Danessa made this product for me. A balanced “normal” skin-type skincare addict who’s skincare often leaves them a bit too glossy to then go in with dewy makeup, but I love dewy, skin like makeup so I compromise by blotting my skincare and powdering with like the illa powder. But then I end up feeling a little too goopy and covered and still the skincare shine is not quite controlled enough.
    The blurring balm powder just brings my skin back to its’ baseline soft matte texture and I can then put on whatever type of texture I want on top. It lasts all day for me, it’s nap proof, feels like I don’t have anything on at all, and so perfectly blurring. I love it...so much!

    • @autumnhamm9381
      @autumnhamm9381 Před 2 lety +11

      Okay, you literally just described the struggle I’m dealing with! I’m dry/balanced, so I compensate with skincare, but then I’m too dewy for dewy makeup. Im def going to pick this up after Kackie’s review, and your comment! Did you buy the universal for a powder or something closer to your skin tone for a foundation?

    • @rhyam737
      @rhyam737 Před 2 lety +9

      @@autumnhamm9381 Yes if you struggle with skincare shine I so recommend it! I’ve heard of some folks struggling with it over dry patches/dryer skin but if you prep your skin with all the good skincare, I really don’t think it’ll be much of a factor. I got 7 bc it’s incredibly difficult to find a medium deep olive/neutral foundation to match my skin and I like light coverage. It can build up to probs a light medium. But I am definitely considering the untinted for no makeup days where all I want to do is just set my skincare. I also have 9 as a beautiful bronzer

    The whole thing about the Danessa Myricks new pan is the key ingredient which is the “Upsalite” not whatever oils and other stuff in there. Upsalite is a Swedish invention which is a complete new take on mattifying compared to powder as it doesn’t make use of talc or mica or any other mineral pigment that all work by absorbing and drying out the skin making it look more matte. Upsalite is made up of microscopical little “sponges” that absorb moisture but doesn’t dry the skin out but helps keep necessary moisture on the skin without making the skin look either dry nor shiny and sweaty. And it keeps up its good work all day! So it is not about the consistency of the product or the formulation but about the Upsalite thing. Linda Hallberg also uses it in her blotting powder. As the little “sponges” also don’t dry out the skin products with this will make the skin look a bit more plumped up. ❣️

    I got this right away and I LOOOOVE it! I previously used nars soft matte over the redness in my cheeks (it's alot) before my foundation and this works so much better! It's smoother, it sets down and doesn't move under my foundation or cream products and stays put all day. INNOVATION!

    I snapped this blurring balm up so fast! Like the other commenter said, it seemed like it was made for me - I have such oily skin.
    After a couple of days of bumbling around with it, I incorporated it into my daily routine and haven’t looked back. At first, I was getting dry patches from it and I was so confused because of the oily skin situation. Turned out Curology was making my skin quite dry and it was overproducing oil to compensate, only I never noticed until those dry patches showed up using this balm. Once I started more aggressively buffering the Curology and did a couple hydrating masks, it was smooth sailing. So I’m grateful for that, because I’m not sure I would have really noticed I was drying out my skin if it weren’t for this stuff.
    I now happily use it as a setting “powder” of sorts and it controls oiliness so, so well! And when I do eventually get a little shiny (which takes so much longer than typical) I can use it to “powder my nose” and it clears up the shine for another 3-4 hours. I also use it as an eye primer and it works better than my regular primer. I honestly love it.
    My best way to use it is with my fingers, pressing and tapping into the skin to blend. I had trouble with any other method (brush, sponge), but using my fingers is 👌.
    For the person who asked about it compared to the Chantecaille cushion foundation (IDK why they called it “skin cushion” /shudder/), I have both the DM balm in #3 and the Chantecaille and I agree with Kackie: they are nothing alike. The balm is more versatile as a product but it’s not really a foundation, it’s more of a “make everything better” product. Since it’s getting warmer I’ve been mostly using the DM blurring balm over a tinted SPF down the middle of my face to reduce redness, smooth things out, and most importantly, reduce shine. And of course as an eye primer. Yesterday I forgot to use it for that and my eyeshadow just disappeared on me. I got so used to my eyeshadow sticking around so well with this product.
    Not for everyone, I suppose, but for those of us who can benefit from it it’s just amazing.

    I love the balm!! It’s really not new to me. I had a balm like it by Mally called Face Defender. When that was discontinued I found Benefit’s Dr. Feelgood balm and then that was discontinued. I was hoping this would be the replacement and it is and it’s a great eye primer too! I never did try it with the other products as eye primer. I wish I did. My only negative comment about Danessa’s balm is that I hit pan the second time using it. I’m not using that much. I used her little scoop and didn’t even fill the spoon. So now instead of using it all over I find myself saving it. I’m not even wearing it today since I am not going anywhere. Or I use it only in my tzone. I’d like to wear it all over everyday. It’s amazing!! But it’s expensive and I think I am going to go through it very fast.

  • @genevieveve

    I was SO JAZZED for this release! Ordered a tinted version and the translucent version immediately.
    And I have to admit I'm not thrilled. I've tried it many different ways, watched reviews from others, and demos from Danessa.
    As a primer, it blurs, but doesn't do anything to enhance longevity of my makeup. Worn as a "foundation" base product, it doesn't blend into my skin - it sits on top, which adds to the blurred effect, but looks heavy and cakey. Can't use it as a powder or touch up product, it's a pastey thick and sludgy mess. Sets in the sense that the carrier medium that the pigment is emulsified into evaporates maybe? But also doesn't set in the sense that it remains flexible - and not in a good way. It's slippy and transfers, somehow I get the vibe of that kinetic sand stuff - it's dry and grainy yet oily and smooth and flexible yet solid and it's cream and it's powder and it's just too many things.
    Texture reminds me of a mixture of the Elf Putty Primer and Benefit Porefessional.
    I had hoped that this would be the answer to my base product dreams. The JLo triple threat of base products, if you will. But it was not that. I don't think it did even one singular thing particularly well, let alone multiple things well at the same time.
    A+ for effort and ingenuity and innovation. A+ for making me so hopeful, I could scream.
    But it did not execute for me. Unfortunately.

      @@madamshante17 is there anything you used in particular as far as skin prep goes that makes it work?
      I've tried quite a few different skin prep options and nothing has worked so far...
      My skin is normal and pretty balanced, but would lean slightly towards oily than it would to lean dry. No dry or flakey patches. I tend to avoid thicker or oilier moisturizers because I don't need them but I've tried this balm with the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base as the heaviest I can go for a moisturizer without feeling flight, various gel moisturizers, different sunscreens ranging from matte to dewy, with primers and without primers.
      Definitely open to anyone's suggestions!

    • @rhyam737
      @rhyam737 Před 2 lety +2

      @@genevieveve My skin type is very similar to yours! I am maybe ever so slightly on the dehydrated side of normal, but I don't have dry or flaky patches and I can get shiny on a hot day. For skincare, I use a few layers of a watery hydrating toner, a light gel textured brightening serum, a vitamin c serum, a gel-cream that is more on the creamy side rather than gel, and spf that isn't greasy but leaves me pretty radiant. You defs don't have to do all that but I feel like the hydrating toner, creamy gel cream, and radiant spf help me achieve the best plumped-up base for the blurring balm. Once my skincare has had some time to settle, I will sometimes use a glowy primer like auric glow lust, but more often than not I will just go in with my concealer and color corrector first. Then, I'll scoop a little of the product on the back of my hand and tap into it with the brush that Danessa raves about all the time the C41 from Rose and Ben. I tap into the product a few times, you only need a little even if it doesn't look like your brush has much on it. Then I just pat and gently swipe into my skin. Finally, I'll go in with blush, bronzer, etc, then the Milk Makeup setting spray a couple of times to melt everything together, and then done! I hope this extremely long paragraph helps!

      imo the blurring balm is nothing like phyto’s spectral shine. Spectral shine is like a soft, light diffusing glow. It’ll take down the wet shine, but it won’t like absorb any of the emollience of whatever was underneath. Blurring balm will absorb just the right amount of whatever was sticky, oily, emollient underneath to bring you to an ultimately soft matte finish. They work incredibly together though

    Is the balm powder similar to the Omorovicza queen cream at all? The weirdness sounds similar to me!

    "I tried to light a pastel on fire today." Do I own pastels? No. But do I relate? YES. 🤣
    I've never tried a "finishing powder" (like the Chantecaille Perfect Blur) but your description of the DM powder balm sounds similar...maybe?

    I have a brush similar to your real techniques one that I use for blending out my eyeshadow sticks. I call it my finger brush because I use it when I don't feel like using my finger.

    The blurring balm is amazing if you have oily skin! SO much better than using powder! The Upsalite absorbed skin oil inside its particles. (Unlike talc and kaolin which absorb oil on its surface and tends to look cakey at the end of the day

    I love your videos. I love the idea of the open, easy-breezy window. I could not finish watching your video because all I could focus on was that damn BIRD you've been speaking of in your previous videos! Did anyone ever figure out what type of bird that was? Maybe I can skip to the end to hear your final thoughts. I'm kinda bummed as I was looking forward to this video.

    So does the balm dry down? I have combo skin - the idea of it sounds awesome but can’t stand something that stays tacky in southern humidity!

    • @lydiaisamazing1
      @lydiaisamazing1 Před 2 lety

      It’s great in humidity!! It doesn’t dry down per say it’s never really wet. It keeps my skin looking hydrated (it’s not really matte) but not greasy without ceasing or disappearing.
