Russia was rejected by the west to join NATO, even during their pro western phase in 1990s. But if that were the case, Europe would see very long lasting peace for sure, despite what some may claim.

@@hornet370 Well Russia isn't a character like in a novel or something like that, it's country which changes as the people in power dictate, but Russia has been a opponent to the west in general, especially the brits even during the time of Russian empire, it's politics so instead of creating her own imperialist bloc, she would just join the already existing imperialist bloc of the west so both sides can get mutual benefits and mess around with China and developing countries more effectively, with Europe secured for them.
About the NATO member matter, during Yeltsin's chaotic and terrible time or early Putin's time, people tend to forget that he was pro-western initially and would probably sell Russia to Neo-liberalism (which the west liked it but it sucked for everyone except the oligarchs) like Yeltsin did if the west supported him. at the time Russia was very weak, they couldn't even handle the country properly in the 1990s, they weren't the brightest but they weren’t that dumb to offer something like that, they could be happy just be accepted as regular member.

It's Millennium Dawn - it's distinctly possible depending on the start date Russia never even invades Georgia, let alone annexes Crimea.
The separatists in eastern Ukraine are there, so I assume that whole mess did happen.

It takes countless reforms and many things to Join NATO and the west knew Putin was a bitch so they rejected him. He would use NATO position to conquer lost territories.
