  • The time has finally come! Today, Jared rebuilds his new Toyota 3SGTE engine ready for his MR2 Turbo swap for Project Marty, alongside Brad who is the real master mechanic behind everything!
Rebuilding and timing up a 3SGTE engine was actually surprisingly 'easy' for the most part, and only threw a few minor issues... Project Marty is really heating up...

So, it's actually happening! Marty the MR2 is getting a turbo engine 😂 Are you excited as we are?

the 3sgte is 100% a non-iterference engine, so if the cambelt snaps there will be no piston to valve contact

The gen 4 3sgte is, due to the vvti. but this one isn't a gen4.

Wait... What?! You think you just gonna slap on a MLS gasket and go? Lol. Good luck with that.

7:15 you said that the Philips head was incorrect. It's actually factory OEM from Aisin/Toyota. You have no need to be worried about it.

Never ever coat headbolts in anything. It will coke due to the heat and cause pressure around the threads.....this is one of the possible reasons for the famous crack around cylinder 1.
Btw. my profile pic is my rebuilt gen2 usdm 3sgte 😉.

Not a great idea to put assembly lube into the head bolt holes. You could hydro lock the bolt and not get it to tighten down properly. All you need to do is put moly grease under the flange of the head bolt to make sure the bolts is torqued correctly.
