  • Today's video highlights a special project aimed at kindergarten students, where the focus is on understanding our relationship with the land. Inspired by the teachings of Murray Sinclair, the project encourages young learners to explore fundamental questions about identity and purpose: Where did I come from? Where am I going? Why am I here? Who am I?
Grace, kindergarten teacher at Rick Hansen Public School, has collaborated with Indigenous community member, Joseph Pitawanakwat, to introduce the children to the rich knowledge embedded in the natural world around them. The kids learn about the medicinal uses of plants and the wisdom that Indigenous peoples have preserved for generations. The outdoor classroom becomes a space for the students to discover how plants can serve as medicine, and how they can deepen their connection to the land.
The children not only enjoy the fresh air and the joy of walking through the forest, but they also learn the importance of taking care of the land, as the land takes care of us. The project fosters a sense of responsibility and stewardship in our youngest learners, guiding them to action the principles of truth and reconciliation.
