The Kinks were an English rock band formed in London in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. The Kinks' music drew from a wide range of influences, including American R&B and rock and roll initially and later adopting British music hall, folk, and country. The band gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies' wittily observational writing style. The Kinks and the songs of Ray Davies are now rightfully established as a great British institution. From the opening riff of You Really Got Me, The Kinks’ influence as pioneers in heavy metal, power pop, conceptual albums, and theatrical shows can be detected in much modern music.

It's a great song to plug into when you're in the back of a limo and just cruise and get high and stare out at the countryside or cityscape. Love it when Dave is just riffing away during Ray's vocals. One of the best songs on Preservation Act 2.

One of the greatest concerts I attended, Preservation, November 1974, Springfield MA Paramount Theater.
Just commented on George Galloways program for people to listen to the Kinks😂. When A Solution Comes, Nobody Gives, and, A Gallon of Gas, and so many other songs that are so prophetic
It was a real risk taker original innovative. True kinks ....enormous even in their so called "failures"

This song sounds like it could be about the rise of Hitler and the NSDAP in Weimar-era Germany. The not-so-accidental phrase "looking for the final solution" is a dead giveaway.

Always an unfairly dismissed album. It's story arch is unsettlingly prescient. Honestly? You could play a number of the tracks from it over footage of Trump and no one would believe you that they weren't written about him.

Who is Trump supposed to be, in your mind? Mr. Black or Mr. Flash?
Good question. An amalgam of both....but..... If you'd ask me the one song that i can see most clearly aligning to Trump; it'll be "He's evil" (although there are certain lines that certainly are not applicable). However, Flash has a sort of redemptive quality. That cannot be said of Black...."Shepherds of the Nation".... should play as Trump walks out to dribble his corrosive, hate filled nonsense. I'd be comforted by the belief that not one of his damaged, bigoted and frankly, stupid followers would see the irony of the song. I stringly suspect that they would see it as a battle hymn.
