Les Baxter invented his own particular sound by combining Latin rhythms with impressionist and related harmony (Ravel, Débussy, Stravinsky), as well as jazz. By 1970, funk influences had found their way into his compositions as well. His highly original and complex works are seriously underrated...

Wow, I've always by passed the LP when I've seen it for sale, thinking it would be purely mainstream easy listening, but it's much more in the vein of Baxter's "Que Mango" and "Bora Bora"...contemporary exotica at the time, even though the titles don't really suggest it. Must pick it up next time! Thanks for posting.

Perhaps one day it may, although I doubt we'll live long enough to see it!
Rhianna can only get that number of views. I'm fine with it being cult status. :)
I also sometimes wonder what's the potential of this. Some find their way to this realm through contemporary works that have used or sampled this, but many, such as myself, actually have searched for a long time to get to know music like this... It was some sort of Indiana Jones mission... Crate digging on the internet.

I have this same LP (tracks wise) with a brown cover titled "Million Seller Hits". Interesting how they released these both ways. All tracks are by Les except for 4 of them. I still think of this as "QUE MANGO! Part 2" [:-)] Les has too long been one of Hollywood's underrated artists. [:-/]
