Wait, you can't leave the movie theatre once you have bought a ticket? What the hell was the woman behind me doing then when she took a phone call half way through the first act, and after talking loudly for several minutes, got up, turned the light on on her phone, and then wandered out of the theatre - mean while her disgusting family continued to chew with their mouths open and rustle food bags constantly. 20 minutes later, she wandered back in again with her phone light on, and proceeded to not once, but twice get the wrong isle - someone at that point did yell at her to "turn your light off" - but she ignored them. Eventually she found her seat, then spent the rest of the film asking questions because she'd missed so much, and making stupid comments about how the actors looked.
I'm not even vaguely exaggerating any of this stuff either. Seriously, it's beyond a joke at this point - every. single. time. I go to the movies, some a*****e ruins it by acting like they are the only person in the universe that matters.

It’s hard to get excited about the extreme pastiche and predictability of Romulus. But the production design and sets and technology are so spot on and perfect, and the actor for Andy did an outstanding job.
Andy was definitely a highlight
and the actual alien sequences were very fucking good
I loved the analog feel to the computers and ship in romulus, so coherent with the technology they had in the original Alien from the 80’s! I loved the set pieces 😭
People blasting the movie are exaggerating about its problems. It's definitely flawed, but it doesn't ruin the movie. Everyone out there just looking for attention and clout, pretending they're too intelligent for this spook house ride movie. They're full of crap in my view.

Well, Alien 8 is a fantastic game released in 1985 for the ZX Spectrum and other 8-bit computers, so in a way you're not wrong.

Animatronic Ian Holm could have been a brilliant homage. Peter Cushing style Ian Holm was a massive mistake.
I had this exact same thought! They went all the way with these elaborate set pieces, as well as with the retro sound design... If they did a clunky animatronic droid, it would've been 1000% better than the horrible CGI rendition they used. It pulled me right out of the movie, and I don't think I ever truly got back in.

I think the aesthetics are nice, and the precursor big alien men are kind neat and menacing. It loses a bit of the mystery of the first alien, and their cut script makes them bit meh but still.

The idea makes sense but the execution pulls you out of the movie. Unless they can pull it off where it looks legit, don't do it. I wasn't paying attention to the moment, I was pushed out of the movie thinking 'man this looks terrible'.

I'm surprised this video was uploaded a year and a half late.
I actually really enjoyed alien Romulus. I will agree that the use of Ian Holmes lateness was really distracting and poor taste. The whole movie was a love letter to the alien franchise by using familiar threats and set pieces with a twist to give us new and interesting situations. The design of “the offspring” was upsetting enough. I feel like the movie did a great job of gradually blending from retro to modern cinematography. The artistry put into the film was beyond incredible. I hope they release a directors cut and I hope the movie was successful enough to warrant more movies that explore different ideas. Overall, great experience.

Then chest-bursters pop out of her team to run up and give her a high-five and group hug. Final score: Xenomorphs 7 - Weyland-Yutani 6. The Xenos win the Goo Cup! Everyone cheers. Roll credits.

TBF I don't blame people for being jaded, reboots and remakes are everywhere and generally pretty shit but if you can ignore the clear callbacks which I think to their point about claiming no one under 40 should care, then it does kinda work (albeit if you do remember those scenes then it's either a callback you like or an instant eyeroll).

Ridley Scott said he gave notes to Alvarez telling him to do certain things. I'm 99. 9 percent sure the prometheus stuff was in those 'notes'.
But the entire way they got the face huggers was from the black goo, so without there there would have been no plot to give notes on

Even still, the Prometheus stuff wasn't the worst part of the movie. The pointless and unnecessary callbacks to better Alien movies is what made this film so disappointing. I felt a pit in my stomach form the moment the Ian Holm flesh muppet showed up on screen.

To be fair in a few places:
In Alien Director's Cut, the xenomorph did the weird wall structures on its own. The structures in Aliens was a callback to that.
I know they didn't _have_ to use Ash's design, and I'd have preferred if they didn't, but there is precedent for Weyland-Yutani recycling old android designs in previous movies. I didn't mind the idea as much as I did the execution.
I groaned when Andy said the Aliens line, though. They really should have left it at "get away from her."
Yeah I was confused why they thought the Alien Queen was physically cocooning its victims without help.

Granted, where did they get the starting material for the eggs to begin with? Do the Xenomorphs have the capability to either be drone or queen in their DNA and the researchers just extrapolated form there?
@@angrysalad I think there was an outbreak from the cloned facehuggers and then one of the aliens transitioned into a Queen and started its own colony on the ship. That would make the most sense.
I actually think Alien 3 is the perfect conclusion to the Alien trilogy. It's not a pleasant movie, but it is not supposed to be. I consider Alien: Resurrection to be more or less non-canonical. It just feels like a concept movie where everything that didn't make it into the first three movies got thrown together before they washed their hands of the whole thing.

I genuinely didn't despise it - totally agree it was a hashed up remake of most of the prior films, at least after the first act - but I was never bored, even if I was rolling my eyes from time to time. It was orders of magnitude less awful than that insanely bad Wrath of Khan remake from J J Abrams.

Not a screenplay made by AI. An older metaphor is to say that something is "paint by numbers". Which might be the sensation here.
Fact is. Movies are just so expensive to make. This film cost 80 million to produce and that's classed as "cheap". AI produced movies are inevitable (if it's not being done already).

i think what they meant by saying "it's written by an AI" is that the movie FEELS like something an AI would create, just a mishmash of the most famous aspects of every movie in this franchise + epic small references all happening during a very formulaic story (guys on ship but aliens try to hunt and kill them). The creators put in the same amount of effort that an AI would, while also thinking this was some "great return for this franchise that feels fresh, new and exciting!"

I rewatched it recently keeping in mind every complaint that's the common ones, and you see when theyre running the landscape to either side of them is exploding nonstop with debris from the ship above. If they ran anywhere but straight they would have been hit by falling stuff. They're running on rough terrain with a small mountain falling down at a difficult to judge angle, I'm just saying that complaint is kinda "meh, I guess" to be honest.

The third one still has some iconic scenes like the one where it smells that she is carrying a Queen inside. Rewatch the third one. In comparison to most movies today it is a masterpiece. But 1 & 2 will always be untouchable. They should just move on. What irked me the most is that the space jockey once was really terrifying to look at. Now it's just a big blue guy in a suit. Pathetic.

Not only is the whole deepfake Ian Holm cynical and pointless, it also messes with the original film. In Alien it comes as a surprise to everyone that Ash is an android. In fact, it's established that he was put on the ship by the company to have his own secret mission. So why wouldn't they use an android that can't be recognized as such? If there are more of this model, the company takes a severe risk that the crew members have seen one before...
Not really, Ash was unknown to the crew of the Nostromo but there isn't really anything indicating the same model was not used by Weyland Yutani on other covert operations.

Because in Aliens Bishop stated his model was in use until the timeline of Aliens. He stated how they were glitchy so this is till to early for anyone to really recognize him in universe.

My headcanon for this movie is Fede Álvarez ending his love letter 30 minutes in with an intermission. Afterwards, he gets up on stage and presents the 2nd half of this movie as "Alien: When the Studio Intervenes".
A nice figurative middle finger to the studio for probably forcing quotas of references/callbacks but not specifying WHERE in the movie they needed to be or if there was any interval needed.
