Having been a wood worker for 40 years, it takes a lot of dedication and time to learn the use of all the specialized tools, clamps and updated procedures you show. Cheers from the US. Jerry
Since watching your channel a year or so ago, your shop has considerably expanded, your crafting skills improved, and your presentation seems more relaxed. Congratulations.
I always love wooden boxes as a kid lots of stuff came in wooden boxes Cigars, cheese, dynamite an other things i just thought they were so neat Thanks for sharing
Absolutely beautiful workmanship. Strangely, wooden boxes are my favorite build. So many options to choose from. Small in size so everyone can have them.
So satisfying watching you create these boxes, takes me back to my childhood when my dad did woodwork and we watched in fascination and awe. He taught us all to use tools and I have a couple toolboxes but am drooling over your fantastic equipped workshop :-D
Very nice. Been a long time since I spent time checking out YT videos. I recently came into possession of a trailer load of rough sawn red oak with some hard rock maple, spalted hickory and some really cool distressed pine. Time to blow the dust off the tools and get busy. These boxes have given me some ideas.
Great video Linn. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished boxes. The hinges that you used on 1 of the boxes was rather unique, in saying I mean different but in a good way. I think that this is the first video you have done without August, I have gotten to were I look forward to seeing him. I just adore him, he brings a certain joy to your videos. Plus it really makes you glow when you are looking and talking to him. I'm thinking that parenthood really agrees with you and Matt. Keep up the fantastic work Thanks for sharing
Very nice. Flush trim router bit might have a good choice to trim the tops/bottoms. I prefer to use a router table when doing the roundovers, less problems with tilting which gives a non-uniform roundover.
i have a trick for cutting your lids. dont cut all the way through the wood with your table saw. Leave 1/16 th and finish with a japanese saw. hit the little ridge with a hand plane, badda bing, badda boom! Did this make sense? That little bit of wood remaining during the table saw cuts acts as a spacer. I love you and your videos. That cracked me up watching you work with a baby strapped to your front.
I think the simplest thing in this video that blew my mind was how you used the hinge pate to calibrate the depth stop on the plunge router. It's one of those things that's like "why haven't I ever thought of that?" Great video, by the way.
Beautiful project Lynn! I love the look of box jointed oak, although I couldn't help think there was a lot of repetition in the video, easily could of been half the length yet still contain all of the useful tips/tricks & steps!
Love your work hate your shop ..LOL dang girl spend a week Organizing that thing, BEAUTIFUL BOXES..Love that Dogs Face, Great Video Quality, Music was perfect and Lastly THANK YOU !!! My Holiday shopping list is complete. Oh and you can "NEVER HAVE ENOUGH CLAMPS" !!
Darbin, é maravilhoso te ver trabalhando. É uma inspiração pra mim. Obrigada! (Darbin, it's wonderful to see you working. It's an inspiration to me. Thank you!)
Very nice video. I don't watch all of your videos, but I do like how you've progressed and changed your vid style - a bit artsy, a bit project oriented, some personal stuff included, speed ups over mundane tasks, etc.
Great project Linn, as always! Definitely some ideas I'll have to try now, from the wood choices, to making the the box joints with a router, to some of the hardware options ("quadrant hinges", not familiar working with those, they look great). I was a bit obsessed wondering when that sticker label would get peeled off the rosewood box, looked for it through the entire video ("How can it still be on after cutting the lid?!"). hahaha I've always had a thing about getting those off right away, I don't know why, kinda like listening to an old style phone ring and ring unanswered and never going to voicemail ("Pick it up, now!"). :)
What an amazingly shot and laid out video, love all these videos and I really hope you and your family are doing well. Not many would still bring their following such great quality content while life is so busy which I'm sure it is for you. But thanks so much!
I love adventurous boxes! Panel edge trimming idea: use Rockler Universal Fence Clamps to clamp guide board to the fence with its wide face horizontal and up high enough that it fits between the two box panels that you want to trim. Adjust the fence so that this guide is essentially flush with the far side of the blade. This will guide the box and you can trim the panels regardless of whether all panel sides hang over the same or not since you are guiding on the box sides. Does that explanation make sense?
Your jig (and router table) is perfect for box joints. Can you share any details on what the entire rig consists of? I really want to make box (or finger) joints. Not sure what all the parts are. Thanks. (PS: I adore the dog. Beautiful animal. Oh, I keep rewinding and watching him/her)
Loved the music and sound effects in this video!! Thought I heard classical music for a little bit...? Also really enjoyed how you had little pieces of "paper" to say what rockler things or techniques you were using!!!!!
Yes, I love bags and boxes, too. In fact, I'm making boxes and bags all the time, without even realizing it. Always enjoyable videos, Linn, well done. : )
I have a box fetish as well! Wood and metal! Actually, it's a container addiction I think...I save metal tins from all kinds of things, even if I'm not sure what to do with them.
Great video Thanks for sharing.I do wonder why you don't use a cabinet scraper instead of your chisel and plane to scrape the glue off.You can buy one for $5 or $6 and you have less chance of damaging your project. Is there a reason why you use the band saw and not a pilot bit in the router to do the top and bottom edges?
Absolutely beautiful boxes - thank you for posting this! One question about your approach: Have you had any issue with wood movement? The large flat panels on either side of the box appear glued to the box-jointed edges in a manner that would severely restrict seasonal movement. When I've tried this before, I've run into problems whereby the cup/flex over the seasons since they cannot move. Have you had any problems with movement on these? Thank you again.
That Squarespace ad via typewriter was genius. My dad used to build me similar boxes for my things as a kid. I think I’ll have to make some of these with my son.
Hey Lynn, loving the new style of video, placement pf product is subtle and doesn’t feel forced. Great boxes too, those box joints are awesome. Is that where they get their name?

I actually liked the texture of the paper. It takes all kinds to make the world go around.
Nice typewriter and beautiful boxes!
I really love this vintage approach.
Absolutely beautiful workmanship. Strangely, wooden boxes are my favorite build. So many options to choose from. Small in size so everyone can have them.
All of the years I spent watching the NYW, were great, but now I see the artist side of woodworking Well Done.

I too have an affinity for boxes. The new style with the music worked for me. Made my lunch break. Thanks!
You are so organized, I like that
Lovely job. Thanks for sharing.
Boxes and bags sounds like a store I could explore for a long time! Very cute boxes!
I love box joints!! I just made some little jewelry boxes with maple and rosewood for my niece's 7th birthday. Great vid as usual.

It is an amazing job

Totally with you on the love of boxes. I'm really looking forward to the follow up video.
I really loved this video. I can't wait to see how you finish the boxes. Thanks!
Great work!
I requested a box making project using the router and here it is. Thank You!
Did I see storage space inside your table saw? What a great idea. I had not noticed that before.

Absolutely over the top good character wonderful work and a beauty of a dog, thanks for sharing your your hobby
I love boxes and especially with box joint. Nice work. Thanks!
Beautiful project Lynn! I love the look of box jointed oak, although I couldn't help think there was a lot of repetition in the video, easily could of been half the length yet still contain all of the useful tips/tricks & steps!
I love the grain of that wood!

Hmm. I have to say I do prefer the older style video where you describe all the steps.
Me too!
I have a box fetish as well! Wood and metal! Actually, it's a container addiction I think...I save metal tins from all kinds of things, even if I'm not sure what to do with them.
I too love boxes, trouble is the workshop is full of them but i still keep making more.
Вы прелесть.

Very cool video Linn. You always have such clever video ideas! Give ole Darwin a good belly rub and some treats for me and hugs to baby Auggy 😉
Parabéns, belas peças.

great idea.
I really like the look of those L shaped hinges.
Nice project, love the video!
The boxes look very nice. The choice of wood and grain patterns were excellent choices. You looked cold - Is Oregon having a bad winter?
That qswo is 🔥
What is the make and model of your table saw? It looks cool.
I love your boxes but when I'm going to make it I'm going to line it with aluminum or some kind of mesh netting to make it into a faraday cage
Really loved the design. I also fell in Love with watch. Make and model? Link???
Beautiful boxes! Super nervous about cutting the lid on the table saw though. Perfectly square is not one of my specialities. Lol
