    I was 16 yrs of age in 1983, and I was just getting barely decent on the guitar. Def Leppard's Pyromania album had taken off, and Krokus' Headhunter was one of my favorites at the time.
    We didn't realize there were 3 bands playing until the night of the concert--which was very rare at the time in our venue--and I had never heard of this guy who was the opening act.
    Well, "this guy" was the legendary Gary Moore. OMFG! All I could do was just stare at the stage with my jaw dropped asking my best friend, "where in the hell did this guy come from?"
    Krokus followed and Def Leppard ended the show. Def Leppard was an incredible show. They sounded great, the light show was phenomenal, and we definitely got what we payed for.
    Krokus didn't have all the lights and pyrotechnics of Def Leppard, and there's only a few players in the world who can compare to Gary Moore. However, those boys just flat out friggin rocked the entire time on stage. As a matter of fact, Marc Storage busted up a guitar at the end of their final song.
    I saw most all of the rock bands of the 80s and very early 90s. As far as just turn the power on and rock the friggin house, AC-DC was the best I ever saw, and Krokus was nibbling at their heals. With all 3 bands, by far the best concert I ever saw.

    Saw these guys "live", back in '83 on their "Screamin in the Night" tour. Oddly enough, they started out on this tour with Def Leppard as their "headlining" act, but due to the meteoric rise of the Leps' album, "Pyromania", the Leps took over as the "headlining" act on the tour, a mere week or so before we seen them. Indeed, seeing them take the stage "before" the Leps that night, and aware as to how this band had just been screwed, you could faintly sense how Marc Storace and the guys were not happy campers with their new tour status, at all, but they plodded on through like pros. Nonetheless, Fernando was his usual amazing self on the axe that night. THis is a good band, that should of gotten a lot more attention in the states during that era.
    BTW, does anyone else hear the vocal resemblance between "Bon Scott" (of AC/DC ~ who died in Feb, 1980) and Marc's voice here? Geez - it's a wonder that Angus Young and the guys didn't call Marc him up in 1980, and offer him the AC/DC gig. But I guess Brian Johnson worked out well for them, in the end. Just a thought.

    I saw these guys twice, once in '81, and once in '83. In '81, they opened for a 3-band show, Krokus, Trapeze, and Nazareth.
    For the life of me, I couldn't remember who opened in '83, though. So I hit up some research tools and found out that in '83, the concert I saw was Krokus as headliner, 1st backup was Point Blank, and the opener that night was some guy I had never heard of and who obviously left zero impression on me whatsoever. When I learned who it was, I said, "No way!" But looking back, yeah, he was trying to be a hard rock singer early in his career. That didn't work out too well, so he changed it up and became the guy we all know and hate...MICHAEL BOLTON.
    Yes, Michael Bolton opened for Krokus. August 1983 in El Paso, TX. I can't make this stuff up, folks...

      @MalikCarr Před 9 lety +2

      Bradley Slackenfelch Don't you kind of wish AC/DC had succeeded in poaching him after Bon Scott died? Krokus made some really good albums, but they never achieved the kind of enduring worldwide popularity that AC/DC did, and Marc Storace's signing style is very similar to Brian Johnson's - probably more articulate than him, too.

    • @mknomad5
      @mknomad5 Před 9 lety +1

      MalikCarr My thought was that Storace's voice is very similar to Bon Scott's. That would have been sweet. Did AC/DC try to recruit him? (smart, those Young boys) That would have made Marc's career permanent!

    • @MalikCarr
      @MalikCarr Před 9 lety +1

      mknomad5 If I remember my rock lore correctly, the Young brothers tried to poach Storace after Bon Scott died and he declined since he thought he'd have more creative control in a band that was more of his own making (and also full of other Europeans) than a well-established Australian act. Brian Johnson then came up since Bon Scott had known the guy personally.

    I realize that there was some dirty dealings between Krokus and other bands such as Twisted Sister, the likes of which would make Sharon Osborne blush, but you gotta' give the devils their due... Krokus fukin' slammed hard, period. On tunes like this, they were like the arrogant illegitimate bastard offspring between metal and punk. While their business dealings might have been shady as hell, they could and did nail the groove to the stage floor night after night, like a gang of evil Energizer Bunnies with jack hammers.

    The biggest reason why Marc Storace turned down the AC/DC gig was because both he and Krokus were dogged by comparisons with Bon Scott and AC/DC to the point of critical derision. The music press smeared and maligned Marc and Krokus as AC/DC wannabes and they couldn't shake it. Despite the fact that Marc (and myself, included) believe such comparisons are false and unfair since Bon Scott -- like Freddie Mercury, Elvis, etc. -- belong as leagues of their own.
    I myself never compared Marc and Krokus to AC/DC because, to my ears, Krokus always sounded like a cleaner, less raspy, but more heavy version of Nazareth, and it's ironic though not accidental that both Marc Storace and Dan McCafferty were offered the AC/DC gig and both of them turned it down. It's a testament to their unique qualities they bring as individuals. Yet still, how amazing and humbling it must be when fans can swear up and down that the likes of Marc Storace, Dan McCafferty, Bon Scott, Brian Johnson, and even Jesse James Dupree could easily fit into (and do justice to) the lead vocalist role in their respective bands?!?

    Having just the thought of Krokus opening up for def leperd back in 1983 is "disgusting", def has NEVER seen the day or NEVER will see the day that they have anything on Krokus. It just really gets me how def's only real heavy metal rockin' albums were their first 2 albums " &maybe" their 3rd lp & after that they turned into nothing more than "MAINSTREAM" pop rock..........NOT METAL
