  • More First Thought Talks from Galway International Arts Festival: www.giaf.ie/talks/past
When Bonnie Greer gave her characteristically forthright and eloquent opinion on British post-Brexit dealings with Ireland on the BBC in 2019 - ‘Don’t mess with them’ - she became a national figure here; social media exploded with praise, she received letters from admirers, all much to her bemusement. She is an American-British playwright, novelist, critic and broadcaster who has been a distinguished commentator on the arts, on heritage, on education, on race, on feminism, on gender and politics for many years. She is joined in conversation with Róisín Ingle, The Irish Times journalist and curator of the Women’s Podcast.
Galway International Arts Festival's First Thought Talks series is presented in association with Festival Education Partner NUI Galway

the history taught in English schools and indeed state schools in the North of Ireland is very inward looking it does not tell the full story of what went on here In Ireland right from the Times of Cromwell and as a result it gives a one sided narrative of what really took place.you need a balance so that your better informed and if you only know one side of any story you can't be impartial or balanced or even properly informed and it leads to ignorance and ignorance then breeds Co tempt and bigotry and intolerance towards your fellow man.

Learnt a lot from the honourally Irish lady. In retrospect, the Obama presidency was a stop gap, the Trump and Biden presidency are more like lost decade to right things
