Hey man, quick question. How in the hell do you keep your side to side balance during the wheelie? brake control and balance point is easy for me but once I start to tip or lean to one side I can't figure out how to counteract it
I don’t really dig them. Mostly because I don’t care about going fast and I think the aesthetics aren’t my cup of tea. I can appreciate the engineering though.
I love the looks and performance of the V-Rod. Does it fit everyone's taste? No. Do I give a Shite, No? To me, this bike is very, very cool and badass looking. Motorcycles come in countless shapes, styles, colors, power levels, and intended uses. To each his own. I would never suggest to someone that their bike doesn't appeal to me unless it was a VERY good friend. Lol.
I actually just sold my Night Rod (The one I had had mid controls on it, definitely better than the forwards with a 180 on the back, handled way better than the newer ones) yesterday for a brand new Honda Shadow. Don't let that fool you, I loved that bike, but I think what it comes down to is what riding means to you. To me, performance means jack shit. I have just as much of a thrill twisting the throttle on my Shadow as I did on the v-rod. As long as I have a comfy bike that looks good, sounds good and is able to keep up on the odd highway trip I am very happy. I have a lot of opinions on the v-rod, and it's mainly just anger at HD themselves for various reasons but no need to get into that haha. Awesome platform with so much potential. Anyway, performance cruisers have their place, but I think a big motor in a more traditional cruiser better fits with what people want who are interested in it. Unless it's a vmax, vmax's will never be the coolest shit ever. Hardly a cruiser tho imo.
I've got a yamaha raider. I love the hell out of it. Looks badass with the wider rear tire, fast as hell for a full size cruiser, slap bags and a windshield on it for long trips, take it all off for cruising around town. I did a 4 day 2400km trip just a couple weeks ago. With the saddlebags, windshield, and large touring bag on the backrest+rack it's more than capable. It's loud, it's fast, it's comfortable (with aftermarket bars and seat). Nothing not to love.
The Vrod has and always will be my favorite Harley. I got my NRS about 7 months ago and have already put 5.5k miles on it! It’s an absolute dream! I think Harley needs to build more bikes like the Vrod or use its motor in a touring chassis! It would attract more young riders like me to the brand more! Amazing video as always man!
@@rocket3me695 thanks for the reply! I am 5'8" with a 30inch inseam do you know anyone with the same dimensions that can ride a NRS comfortably for more than an hour? I am upgrading from a rebel 500 I felt small and compact on the rebel but this bike caught my attention hoping it will be a more comfortable ride. Unfortunately the closes one I can hop in on is more than 3 hours away.
iRlazyGoat Let me start by saying the VRod would be an amazing upgrade from a rebel 500! I have met many V rod owners all around the height spectrum. The biggest complaint I get from riders around 5’6 is that The position of the Forward pegs is a little awkward. Luckily Harley Davidson makes a drop in mid controls kit for the night rod special! Most of the people who have converted to mids for height reasons have told me that they have never been happier! As for seat height and comfort, I personally believe that the stock night rod special seat from 2012 and up models is the most comfortable seat I’ve ever sat on,especially for multi-hour rides! It’s very wide! Also the seat high for a NRS is about 27.8 inches so it won’t be to far off from the rebels 27.2, you’ll be right at home haha! Hope this helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions! -Nick
I've owned a 2013 Nightrod for the last 5 months and I really like it, I'm 5'9 and this bike is fun for long rides on country roads..... it has plenty of power, feels much lighter over 40 mph.... my other bike is a ZX-14r, been riding since 1995. The HD is fun 0 to 80mph, the ZX is fun from 80 to 180, ya know?
My first bike was an 08' Night Rod Special. In May of 09, after my last military deployment to Iraq, I took 30 days of leave and rode from San Diego to Richmond, VA and back, never crossing the same state twice, except Cali. 22 states and 7740 miles. My bike ran flawlessly. I did my job and rode safe and sober. No side bags, wind shield, or faring. I had the time of my life riding alone.
I love the look and sound of muscle bikes. I fit on so few of them that I don't even shop for them. I did find a nightrod with mid controls that I actually fit on. Damn dealership wouldn't move on the price though, so I walked.
I love the vrod , Harley should have kept going with it. I do have a breakout so I know how the 240 handles . Seeing these bikes up close in person is something great , the vrod muscle is a straight up performance bike and is different than any other Harley
From what I’m hearing they discontinued the V-Rod because of emissions in Europe, it wouldn’t pass the new laws. The V-Rod was more popular in Europe than it was in the US. So instead of refining it to pass emissions HD just dumped it. Shame on HD. 🗣HD BRING BACK THE V-ROD!
Funny they are not that popular in the states, here in nz they are pretty popular, usually with really loud pipes, tall bars, all black, and on the rev limiter every time you ride it .
In my opinion performance cruisers are totally different to muscle bikes. performance cruisers are good all round, good handling comfortable on the highway, quick.. narrower back tire muscle bikes are lower, more for straight line power, usually no fairing suck on highway, less comfortable, fat bike tire
WOW, someone got a great deal for $7,200? Same year and color around me are going for $9-$11,000 with 8-17,000 miles on them that have much more cosmetic blemishes. Maybe just maybe this video will give me more buying power. 👍🏻👍🏻
The Ducati Diavel is one bad to the bone powerful performance cruiser. Have you ever had the privilege to ride one ? 2019 2020 model is over 1200 cc, 160 hp and almost a 100 ft lbs of torque that fully come on at 7500 rpms.
Im more of a fan of an understressed bike with more down low torque so I dont have to beat on it to get power. I get that the vrod is fast but not a fan of having to rev it out to get power. Its bound to brake.
I have a 2006 vrod cvo and I did the 1/4 mile in 8.063 seconds at 142.007 miles per hour and I have the screen shot to prove it I just can’t upload it here
Any tips on to help a newer CZcamsr get watch time? I’ve been going at it for 3 months so far and I’m a quarter to 4K but I’m not convinced I’ll hit it! Thanks!
Jon's Moto Garage thank you! Been loving the content that you’ve been pumping out lately, stumbled across your channel probably around 2 months ago from the grom wheelie video trying to learn them on my Z!
What year is it? Harley had a recall for ABS, for 2009-2011 V Rod and Touring. I'd ride 1 just to see what it's like but I have no interest in owning i performance cruiser. Unless the Low Rider S in that class.
Jon's Moto Garage I would tell the new owner to look into it and see if HD will fix the ABS for free even if it was previously fixed under the recall. Obviously HD didn’t do the correct fix on it. Lol
Hey brother I watch a lot of your vids and I'm looking at getting my first bike I'm thinking about a Vulcan 650s I'm 6'2" and around 215lbs you think that would be a good choice?
Best bet would be sitting on one to see how it feels. With the ergo fit, I imagine you could get it set to your liking. Good luck and thanks for the support!
With different frame geometry the V Rod could have been something that all of the other manufacturers would be jealous to make. Instead, it was just another HD with a really cool but dead now engine.

Badass machine.
It's a big ol rocketship. Isnt it an odd feeling to pull through all those rpms without shifting when you're on a Harley?
Definitely unlike your typical harleys. I dig it for sure.
Yes, it's a sport bike. Drag racing is a sport :)
Fwd controls on V Rods are just ridiculous.
