nope. the game looks actually good and fun. and I say this as an absolute anti ubisoft andy. not sure I'm gonna dish out 60 dollars for it on release but I'm definitely interested. after not having been interested for a long time.

You could board ships a decade ago in black flag. I didn’t expect you to be able to move around and fight people manually, but a cutscene for boarding is unacceptable
after 3 hours of playing black flag I got tired of the battle like boarding
You know Sea of thieves exist, they should've Just copied It and made It more realistic
remove self-shooting? Who should control 8 guns? Should the captain himself personally land on the island and cut down trees? Who should be involved in repairing the ship according to your version? also run around personally with a hammer and boards? @@jager-plays25 -You have to actually like Pirate games and have played many of them to realize this is a fun pirate game. It will get better as they develop. The fact that this is already 10x the game that Sea of Thieves is, tells you exactly that this game is going to have a dedicated base. I couldn't stop playing it and I am a developer, who of course knows and likes Pirate Games like Sea of Thieves or Pirates! I do wish they had daughter dancing, lol.
Man I wish there was actual combat like pvp with flintlocks and swords like sea of thieves but with a more realistic feel that would make this game top 10
From your comment it looks like pvp is not team up base two vs two and you can’t board other ships to take them over in a epic hack & slash style and you can’t take prisoners of war
If they made you fight like For Honor maaannnnn this game would be promising but looking at it now I’m disappointed

The more realistic the ships act on the sea the more fun it will be.
Only having up to 3 players online will cost this game many fans.

i would say if you want a more realistic experience naval action is the closest thing but that's more age of sail than specifically about pirates
I think the boarding sequence is fine, cause it doesn't feel like I get punished for trying to board a large high value ship mid combat. It's being you to a halt which makes you vulnerable, however it doesn't bring you to a halt for very long. I think everything that is a cutscene just doesn't need to be done by the player. I think the idea is you are the pirate CAPTAIN, not a member of the crew. No reasonable pirate captain with a remotely large enough and loyal enough captain would put himself in danger at sea. Leaving the ship in the middle of combat means if you don't win the boarding action you're probably dead, and you can't just flee back to your ship and run without trouble. Then there's the worry about mutiny, when the captain is off ship that's the best time for disloyal members of the crew to take action. So I think it's reasonable to not make the player do it, mid combat with many ships all around.

I think people are being selfish with asking to actually fight during boarding, if they did boarding combat, then that would be THE ONLY place for that, well now they kinda gotta do something different from AC cuz if not everyone will complain it's just a reskin of black flag blah blah fukking blah. Great so now all this time and resources are being poured into something that players will spend less then a minute doing each time. Well thats a fecking waste, so now they gotta impliment something else entire thats probably not ship based ie land combat, great so we're getting back to those assassins creed roots which people are saying THATS ALL they had to remove. "wElL ThEY DonT AcKTuaLLy HAve TO dO COmBat" great so you're so now you're asking for QTE, which in a lot of cases are heavily ridiculed the bunch babies that call ourselves gamers.

Judging by the insane amount of delays for this game's release, I'm very disappointed.
How to make it a great game:
-Remove timed inputs
-let us move on the ship
-let us board big ships
-let the character use guns and melee weapons
-let us raid some settlements
-add pirate minigames like drinking or walk the plank to play with other players
-instead of collecting resources let us land on the island and collect it ourselves with the tools
-add something to explore on the islands, not just a settlement
-maybe let us hop on other people's ships and pilot them or climb to the crow's nest. Also let us shoot our personal firearm or swing our sword against enemies boarding the ship
Exactly what I was saying to my friends and other review posts about this game. To say myself and others are disappointed is a gross understatement. We may never get the perfect pirate game, I'm afraid. It's just all going to be cashgrabbing dumpster fires.
Sounds like you're describing Sea of Thieves.
Not saying sea of thieves doesn't have its own glaring limitations, but at least you play as a pirate, not as the pirate ship.
You literally described the greatest pirate game of all time. It's called Black Flag. They had the foundation in black flag. All they had to do was literally re-release black flag without the assassins creed stuff and it would have been a banger.

Ubisoft are on record saying they want a bigger share of the HUGE mobile gaming market in Asia and Africa, and I reckon this is their first real attempt to crack into it.

Caribbean Legend also released this month... I went back to that even though its just another remaster
If boarding was more than a cutscene it would wreck the game. Think about it. While you're busy doing whatever with your character, there's gonna be like 6 other ships blowing the hell outta yours. You gotta get it done and move on. Good decision to use a quick cutscene I'd say. This ain't Assassins Creed, it's its own game and they had to make the gameplay smooth and continuous, so I'd say that's a fair decision they made.
I don't know why they didn't just take the base game of black flags change the map up, improve the fighting mechanics, make it online and add new weapons armor and ships and maybe some other stuff like the sea monster and turn that into a game
It is fun. Having a blast. 40 hours in and are not kingpin yet. I do so many other things. Rum and opium deliveries, searching for tresaures and so on.
The end game is going to be the large public events on the map which drop loot exclusive to those events kinda like every other MMO.

the cutscene can be skipped pressing ESC for boarding, and Space when grabbing the others ships.

Sailed for 45 mins looking for some trees to collect....its day 5 at sea....still no trees insight that I can harvest. No pirates bothered to replant... :(

You missed rum and drug smuggling for the underground ring which is probably more the core gameplay than questing. The shops it opens up has the best loot

Its just testing. Who remembers the other test they sent out? All you did was go around cutting down trees from your ship. It all has a purpose! 😊
you can land on any sandy beach to recruit/party. you can access your ships interior/hull in any safe zone. Make these and its perfect.
Played it yesterday and I am loving it. I don’t mind the cutscene for boarding as it lets you get back into naval fights right away and you can get extra resources.
Exactly how I feel. A lot of people are miffed that it doesnt have boarding like black flags, but I don't think they recall just how tedious and boring the boarding got after doing it like twice lol

The problem i have is the african coast doesnt have a den of its own but yet in the black market its got its own territory

Apparently someone forgot to mention to the Devs that Pirates were SWASHBUCKLERS. When an OLD game like AC Black Flag is leaps and bounds ahead of this 'Modern game'...we have problems in the gaming world.
Sounds basically like a PvEvP (alil) better graphical version of Sid Meiers Pirates alittle then. Loves that game, was hoping for more obviously but may be interested after reviews.

Imagine a company that made a game years ago, that had all the elements just right.. Now imagine how dysfunctional that same company have to be, in order to leave out elements and not even recycle assets, just to get the base functionality covered.. That's ubisoft management for you..

If you went out northeast it gets pretty hard I reached max allowed infamy and got the ship with it and still couldn’t fix the smaller ships out there
Okay normally when I’m on CZcams it’s just to watch others play games and have fun, I’m not gonna lie, I took a gamble on this game and dropped the 100$. Knew nothing about it until a month ago, never saw footage, never saw a trailer, nothing. All I knew that it involved pirates, sailing the seas and customizing your ships and weapons alike. Sure, there’s no melee combat I get that, but in my opinion majority of the games I enjoy/play involve melee combat or some type of range. I enjoy relaxing, sinking ships, and taking the time to read the treasure maps and search for them. In my opinion after playing for 6 hours between Monday-Wednesday (work has kept me busy😭) it’s a nice chill game to explore and I’ve barely only scraped the surface of the game and barely got my second ship. So far I would give the experience a solid 8 and a half, maybe pushing 9. Sure it has pvp to find those legendary pieces, but as far as I know it’s not a requirement for only those pieces (that I know of) I enjoy world events, working together to take down a settlement, and possibly hunt down those beasts in the water, that’s my opinion on it so far. If you’re looking for something to just chill, sail, hell even listen to shanties while sailing/plundering, this is it. 🏴☠️🫡
There adding more to game they got 3 to 4 groups working on this. we got 1 of 3 seas to Sail. More ships of smalls, medium, large (large ships will be add probably in season 2 cause devs wasn't sure how they work in the rivers even tho they aren't. for back rivers.)
More weapons More bosses etc etc.
It's that game they get slowly built over time. Even tho it's 38gb game it will be hitting the 80gb maybe by the end of it

The ship combat is great. That is all it needs imo. Boarding IS a cutscene, but it's a satisfying way to end a fight and get some extra loot.
Pirates without the pirates for $60. I think all of should walk the plank on this one and put it where it belongs either in a $5 dollar bin at Walmart or in the bottom Davie Jones locker

Now things are glitching, you can not pick up water from island camps from water barrels! You can not fish for meat you can kill animals but can not pick up the meat to cook for quests
ended up watching PhuzzyBond's stream earlier today on S&B and im buying it. I was hesitant at first but it just looks fun. be nice to play something that's not balls to the wall sweaty like SoT for once.
I only hate that ship boarding is a cutscene and ship armor is basically metal hanging off the side and not like ac4 ship armor

He didn't really give an opinion... however the core loop that he expresses does sound solid enough to grind out to whatever level cap exists. If you're lucky maybe a gear grind will be introduced.
How do u play this already mate
The game feels 10 years old. Theres a fade to black everytime you transition anywhere, be it leaving a menu, going to port, boarding your ship, etc. A game in 2024 shouldn't need fade to black loading screens, It's very immersion breaking.

The idea is you use your loot to build better ships buy all the best outfits and weapons etc you can snub the game but I love it. It's like an adult version of sea of thieves
The bugs are the best part. Go pick up your gold coins get disconnected log back in all your inventory is gone along with all your gold coins. ui bugs out and you cant repair the ship or when you open up your map and cant see where you actully are. I play on pc xbox amd steam deck its the all the same.

Sounds like sid meirs pirates im way mlre attracted to sea of thieves being a ps4 player whos never tried sea of thieves but watch alot of.vids.... i love the escape from monkey island esque cartoon like art ❤❤❤❤ and i love how u do everything yourself allowing for endless roleplay. This game looks way more rigid and just.... yeah reminds me of a new verdion kind of of sid meires pirates 😅 😅😅

Combat isn't fun in this game, its fun for an hour then its "okay time to do the same thing for the 100th time now." Theres no sword or musket combat theres no boarding ships theres no taking prisoners for ransom THERES NO PIRACY IN THIS PIRATE GAME its a privateer simulator where you deliver cargo and get attacked by other ships. Thats exactly what privateers and merchants did
After over a decade of development they basically just rereleased assassins creed 4.

I hate to see the constant can't board cant fight with swords we knew this 4 years ago they made it very clear it'll be ship vs ship we're lucky to see the island development they've added. It'll be a great game an the pvp will be extra since we got none in closed beta i look forward to it.

This could have been a decent 30-40$ game , but you already know they are planning to nickel and dime you with season passes and other microtransactions on a basic gameplay loop that already costs 60-70% , it will be good when it comes to ps-plus or on sale a complete version a few year later for like 40$ like how i got anno 1800

It’s sad because I thought they were delaying the game so much to add actual sword combat but the didn’t.
Boarding battles and recruiting different crew members and upgrading different functional aspects of a ship should all be mandatory for pirate games

Hey, it's supposed to be another service game, let's wait and see a little if they implement these kind of immersives things a lot of players are craving for, my expectations are low on my end but hey, you never know.
Boat simulator.. no off boat action besides walking around and talking to npcs/merchants …you harvest resources from the boat…you can’t hop off your boat at any time unless your at a player hub/outpost …only cool thing I’ve encounter was a public event where multiple ships ganged up on one pirate crew(npc) but that’s about it … yeah it’s a beta but boat simulator is all I’m able to rather after plying for about 10 hrs
