Could I do a half double crochet instead of a double with this same pattern for a tighter pattern?
I don’t see why not, although you may need to adjust the number of turning chains to keep the edges straight.

I am trying to make a blanket using this but every time I grow it out it stops being straight on both ends and turns into a triangle shape any advice? I have tried it twice but it keeps on happening
There are lots of things to consider. Are you keeping your tension even? Is it too severe to be blocked into shape?
@@elimeedesigns yes I believe my tension is the same. Maybe I will try to block it out
