If i had met this person while growing up. I can't imagine what i would be on this planet in ICT. A god i swear...... Even when I'm not doing anything related to ict I can't scroll over your video.
Well done David you have an awesome gift, the way you can explain such things in a way that its so informative but yet it's wrapped in such a simplistic package. I just stumbled on the channel, so ive only barely sampled the content, needless to say but i got me some binging to do. So far from what I have sampled 👍👍, I'm definitely recommending this channel to most of my contacts, thanks for the time you take to provide such well thought out and put together information.
Thank you so much. I am studying computer science and coding languages I understand just fine but the hardware components scare me because i have absolutely no practical knowledge 😭
Big more complicated though. Layer 3 switches exist which can work with IP addresses. Also, residential "routers" are actually a combination of a router, switch, wifi access point and sometimes a modem as well.
layer 3 switch is anouther name for some of ISP routers. Why on Earth those are named "L3 switch" is beyond me. USB-IF shows people may make some very questionable naming schemes.
Not necesserily the switched machines will share the single ip address of a router, they dont need to have a public address or they can have different or even share many. Simply the switch interchanges the link structures of information (called frames) and works on the second level of abstraction and routers are capable of interchanging 3rd level of abstraction called packets and protocols such as IP/IPv6/old IPX/ATM/some other globally interchangeable packeting protocol :). In simple way many users are using routers for a single IP address SNAT though but lets not take them opportunity to create something special :). dont use just routers - use linux :)
Switches have also ip routing but it routes only on the same network dhcp server, mac adreses are barely used outside of companies where you implement hardware id wich is the mac, usually old hubs had a mac routing system 😅
Just a suggestion, why don’t you start teaching for the security courses that are offered by the ISACA Board, I am currently preparing for my CISA Certification(Certified Information Systems Auditor) and I can’t thank you enough for simplifying such tech related topics. Love from India❤
Now do one on the difference between a Modem (modulator/demodulator) and a router :3 It's the router idea, but instead of different networks, it's different mediums!
And I’m picking this up along the way but I’m assuming that the “Mac” in MAC address stands for macro meaning more traffic. I’ve been told that Ap’s essentially hand out IP addresses but I’m struggling to clearly understand. Does the switch “decrypt” (for lack of a better term) packets that come in from an ap and just send a packet back to the ap to determine which device needed the information?
Hi there. I have starlink and I got the ethernet adaptor as you showed in this video. I have a TP link 5 port Gigabit desktop switch. Do I still need a router to use this?
@@davidbombal I did the Google IT Support course on Coursera 2 months after I was done I got a job at a data center as a data Technician, I'm really enjoying working in tech now I'm planning on moving forward, I'm currently studying for cybersecurity and your videos have really been very very very helpful. I'm loving it day by day. I also use your video as references when I don't understand some things. Please do you have a video on full Wireshark demo?
So when computer request a data package to be sent to another PC in the same network, it would include both the MAC address and the IP address of the target in the request? How does the PC know the MAC address of other PC in the network?
This is very clear. Please more like these. This kind of videos' idea is a very good one.
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying my shorts :)
As a Network Engineer I can safely say that you explain things so well that people who aren't in our field can still understand you
Thank you! I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible :)
Due hi is wrong ports are important but he only talked about ips… Also there are switches layer 3… this is bigger than IPs due.
Alright youtube i need more videos like this
Agreed! 😀
Me too
Brilliant video. This is what CZcams shorts is all about. Cheers!
Wow, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
the simple rule is a switch is a layer 2 and router layer 3
But the past 10 years a switch is now both layer 2 and 3. I have 4 of them in my house :)
Do you need switch my factory produce switch in China
Router - Network Layer
Switch - Data Link Layer
Unless it's an l3 switch 😅

Why do you need others to make you successful at something?
If you want to learn networking, there are plenty of courses out there.
This is so simple it’s great.
Man I think this channel will help me on my A+ lol
I hope so! All the best with your A+

Layer 3 switch has entered the chat.
Amazingly simply explained how it all works, simply perfect! Thank you for all your hard work David!

Excellent presentation with visual examples of the differences between switches and routers. 😊

Man, I love you video so much
I'm a big fan.
Got my first CCNA using David Bombal videos.
Hi David,
I love your videos too! Thanks for your hard work, that is enable us to learn and progress... Thanks again!
L3 Switch enters the chat 😁
Any L3 switch "Hoho, I am a router".
Juniper MX "Hoho, I am the best switch in the world".
Wow...I really love what u do
Very helpful thanks
Your comparation is very clear
Bravo, short and to the point!!! 🎉
Thank hyou Nikola!
You are always simple and clear explanation .. awesome
Thank you!
powerful explanation
what other connections can you guys make?
Really like such practical sessions.. Thanks 🙏
Good expample, and router also provide qos for networks.
Unless the switch is a layer 3 switch, then it can route.
Very nice explanation!
And me, looking at a layer3 switch ;-)
David please prepare video about Starling technology as it's very unique method of internet access :)
Good job, sir.."Need more
These are great videos keep them coming 👏
a truly IT Professional. thanks Mister
Thank you!
Thank you so much for putting it so well
Beautiful!
Thank you
Thank you!
Excellent video once again!
The 2. box from the bottom is a Cisco 3750 router switch.
It's really useful for us..
Excellent explanation👍
Man I love your videos! Very informative and sometimes would help me as a cs student :)
Thank you 🫡
Impressive work, please do more :)
👍💯✅how about a combination of them The Switch Router !👍💯✅
Perfect explanation ❤

Where have you been all these years? 🤨🤨. Most easy and simple explanation ever.
lol...I've been teaching networking for a long time :) Thanks for the great comment!
Sometimes I think he puts his Starlink router there just to show how cool it is
Amazing vid. Amazing routers.
Well fair enough, well organized speech without sky level bullshit that ends up advertising own network course. Thanks 🎉
A router routes and a switch switches.
Thanks sir ❤
pls do video about bridge
david sir , i hope you will not ignore my comment. You are a very humble, hardwork and talented teacher. I hope you will make a tutorial on comptia A+
if you use a router without the wan port you can use it as a switch. if the router has wifi you can use it as a wireless access point too
Switches are so cool, the internet is very cool. Just blows my mind how far we’ve come
watching these shorts between memes and comedy while studying cybersecurity helps me feel less guilty of wasting my time

Router configuration and switch..

this is exactly what i will be using my new knowledge with. buy a SWITCH and connect it to my starlink. not a router. many thanks.
Does switch slove double nat problems while using 2 router?
Nice content
when i had networking lab i was confused by router and switch

Can we use a router as a switch hub?
Spring dust cleaning? :)
lol... I have a lot of old "trash" as my wife calls it :)
Very good explanation David 🙏🏻
A switch will connect device based on ARP(address resolution protocol using MAC address) where’s routers use IP address
switches don't do ARP. switches do connect based on MAC adresses. ARP and NDP is what router or end device do.
