Better EPA fuel economy than a V8? Sorry, my 05 4.2 Trailblazer got about 14 mpg. My 5.3 V8 got about 17 mpg. The 4.2 was underrated as a potential performance engine mostly because it was under developed by GM. GM gave up on it because it was not initially as good as they thought and as is typical with GM, the finance folks pulled the plug from the engineers and it was gone.

Very smooth and powerful engine. However a rebuild should be done in a professional shop. Not in ones garage as it is technically pretty advanced and beyond your typical do it yourselfer.

10:00 that cap is there to remove the torque converter bolts without pulling the starter. A welcome feature. 😆
