How do you get the comb part that sticks in the hair strong so that it doesn't bend when putting it in the hair as the wire is soft right? How do you make it strong the poking part? What wire is the best and can you stain or distress the wire? I really want to make one and I want it to be solid and firm, please tell, thank you. Love your work I really think I can do it as I am inspired I just want the end result to be durable not weak and flimsy, tips.
Hi! Glad this is inspiring. The wire is thick gauge copper and it’s not very soft-if you have a torch you can anneal the wire to soften it, but I just use pliers and a lot of force to build the shape I want. Hammering the wire will help harden it; just don’t hammer it so thin that it becomes weak. You can see the swirly part of the copper is hammered somewhat flat and thin, but the part that needs to be really strong, the sticks, is only lightly hammered.
