- The K series from Kawai is one of the most versatile piano lines on the market. Today we will be looking at 3 of the 5 models in the series and discuss how they were crafted with the future in mind. There are some key differences between the models and to illustrate this will compare K200, K300, and K500. At the heart of this series is the Kawai Millennium III Upright Action (not available in K15) to avoid the common problem of “swelling and shrinking parts” that weakens the stability of conventional actions with all-wooden parts.

I really love it !! In my opinion the sound on K300 is wonderful and it seems that K500 is more harmonized. Both sound amazing!

They all play beautifully. However I will say I find the upper bass tones in the K200 a little annoying and on the other hand I find the Higher notes more pronounced on the K200, where both the K300 and K500 is more muted. but to my untrained ear, I would say the K500 sound the best. it got more dept and softness in the sound.

You should have shown one octave below and above where the main difference between the K300 and K500 is audible. As the volume in the bass increases and the clearness and harmonics in the higher strings show up. The K300 was regulated best (why?) with the K500 only a little bit off.

Just wondering if K400 also sales in the US. Seems like ppl outside of Asia skip this model and pay more attention on K300, and K500.
Once people see and hear the difference between the K300 they often want to upgrade to the K400.
I've researched this topic (and selected K-300!). Should be almost no perceivable difference as these are the same pianos except the design of the cabinet's front part (to allocate a larger music stand in K-400). K-400 has extra holes in the front panel (behind the music stand) allowing more sound to escape even when the piano lid is closed.
In the US all K-300, as well as K-400, are from the KAWAI factory in Japan.

Honestly, I don't think Kawai to Yamaha comparisons work that well. Yamaha people like a certain sound and sense and Kawai people tend to like a different one. It's hard to find people that can get pass their own biases/preferences and see the merit in the other brand. I like both and think an approach to playing that brings out the best quality of that brand makes me appreciate the other one even more. I've found that Kawai gives a lot more information of the engineering in their promotional materials than Yamaha does. They both use flowery language but Yamaha tends to be quite vague in what's actually inside their pianos.

@@benjaminsmith2287 I think its mainly because Yamaha has spent so much money on branding that they don't need to promote the engineering and materials. in a sense Yamaha name sells itself, where as Kawai isn't as big as a name so they need to advertise what is inside their piano to make them stand out from every other manufacturer.
K800 has agraffes etc its basically the exact same as K600AS (sostenuto pedal version) with a larger music rack
YUS5 has upgraded strings and better felted hammers, I think they are more mellow than the typical U1 and U3s and from speaking to a technician they are easy to work with in terms of voicing because of the higher quality felt.

Some minor differences may be due to the place of assembly-K-300 which is sold in Europe is made in Indonesia while K-400 is always made in Japan (where the workers are supposed to be more skilled, but either way, the components are exactly the same and of the same quality).
In the US all K-300 are from the KAWAI factory in Japan.
What would be more suitable for a medium sized living room? K-200 or k-300 ? Thanks !
I believe the k300 is taller but not wider so either would be fine but I'm not positive so don't quote me on this lol👍

What about the K400???
I'm new to uprights, but I've always loved Kawai grand pianos and have been considering upgrading my Brodmann to a Kawai upright. This video is discouraging.

I always hear that the k300 is made in Japan but whenever I see one it's made in Indonesia...
K-300 for the European market is made in Indonesia (same as K-200). K-300 for the US market is always made in Japan.

K300 Aures is a LOT more expensive than K300...
Of course it is. It is a 3 in 1 and a very good instrument. I own a K300 Aures since around 1 year....
K500 out of tune... why demo an out of tune instrument?
Because they’re a bunch of clowns that don’t even realize it’s out of tune
