We LOVE our sheep and recommend them to everyone!! We have katahdins and raised them as far north as 30 miles south of the Canadian border in Idaho and as far south as southeast Texas! They did great in Idaho and are doing well in spite of drought in Texas!! Dan at the Grassfed Homestead was a huge help as we got started!
live in Idaho.... and can't say enough about sheep/goats.... hit me up in the future with goats... smaller the animal the most productive in my opinion...

We are team goats all the way here!never understood why people hate goats! Keep goats in a diverse landscape and they will not constantly try and escape! We worm out goats twice a year, never had problems in all these years. We have alpine and Saanes + crosses. Great milkers well behaved! Goats meat far leaner and makes wonderful kebabs and curries!! The key to goats is to have only ladies or only boys...they get naughty when mixed 😂
Yep, I've had goats for 13 years and even run them around in premier fences with no trouble, great milk and meat. :)
Goats are so friendly and outgoing from what I've seen.

If someone has their fencing game down..if not..they will never stop giving drama. Our two goats always found a way out and hurt so many young fruit trees. Wish we would've tried sheep.

Goats are not as bad as Justin makes them out to be… we have 24 and love having them. No parasites, no struggle moving, they can go into heavy wood/shrub areas, they multi-reproduce.

He does get a little over the top on the goat bashing sometimes. We have goats and I feel the same about goats as he does sheep. I would like to try lamb and possibly raise some for meat just for variety

I live on Cyprus and because of the island's terrain we have our culture based on sheep products but now days the caws have take over because they can produce milk all the year around but wr still have same local farmers that they raise sheeps especially for their meet

Hair sheep don’t need their tails docked, (and really shouldn’t), but there are actually benefits to docking wool sheep’s tails. Pros and cons to everything, you know? Everyone just has to do their own research and decide for themselves! 😊
Do dairy, then you can get attached and name them and only camp freezer them when they are older but still having a good life.

You can dry the peels and powder them to use in sauce and soups. Don't throw them away :) I freeze tomatoes. Remove the core, freeze. Thaw later when I have more time and less harvest, puree and can the sauce. I do not peal the tomatoes. My bled tech blender purees amazingly so it saves time not to have to peel. 😁

My brother and I raised Suffolks and Dorsets as teens in 4 H. Stopped for a few years and now we are back into it, raising Clun forest and Polypay crosses. Love sheep! We are building up the rotational pastures this summer and they're doing great! Blessings to you all!🤠💗🐏🐑🐑

6month in SC on 1.3 acre 14 chickens lost 9 to a skunk. Just got 12 more,trying again . Got my first 2 eggs,love it ..
What failed that the skunk got them?

I’ve been around quads all my life you should buy them the biggest “the salon so they could grow into the quad and you won’t have to buy them and never one for a few more years

The first best friend I ever had lived on a sheep farm. She grew up to win state fairs. I always thought it would be awesome to simply raise sheep and pigs.
And, Ben Hollar, from Hollar Homestead, designed and built your sheep pen. It sure would have been nice if you had acknowledged that the "we" was him and his skills and hard work, Justin.
We just started with two kitadin ewes and a dorper ram this last April 2022. We're east of Cincinnati area. We got a bonus with them being pregnant and they had two lambs each in early June. Already more than doubled our herd in two months! Unfortunately, one of the adult ewes went septic and passed away in 5 days after birthing, also after multiple vet trips and attempts to rectify whatever was going on. (This also happened the morning of my sister's funeral. It was a very challenging June.) We think the ewe may have had a stillborn 3rd lamb in there (this ewe had trips the last time she lambed) that she couldnt get out and we didnt catch it in time. So very sad! I'm still bottle feeding the two younger lambs, but they are doing great. Our livestock puppies (males and only 4 months old) have been very protective and gentle with them. Even letting them "nurse" off of them...I know ugh! Chaos for a while, till they figured out there's nothing coming out of that. Lol It's been just amazing to watch the progress and a tough learning experience. We now have plans and are setting up a lambing barn/pasture area where we can pull the ewes to watch more closely. The man we got them from left them out in the field to do their thing, which is what we were going to do until this happened. We live and we learn, sometimes a very hard way. But we received 3 ewes and a ram, 4 new baby lambs total. They are all doing great! Bringing our herd count to 6 in a short amount of time, even with our one loss.

If you've never eaten lamb or dislike lamb, get hair sheep. It's the wool that makes them taste funky.

Great video on sheep! My number 1 reason for raising them is the market is starving for more producers. The US imports 85% of it's lamb! I also agree with the high joule energizer. The higher the better! I don't have to string trim my fence because the energizer burns right through the grass.
Just seen on CZcams the other day that a man by accident had his drone in the air to watch his sheep in the pasture. As he was flying the drone, the sheep was running the opposite way and staying together. So he decided to see if he could get his sheep from one pasture to the other pasture across the road without his dogs. His dogs were so confused what to do, that the sheep were so quick with drone steering them across the road, the dogs would stop and had to think about what was going on... Lol. Jonas and Josiah would have a ball doing this with their drone. Maybe their dog could be trained with the drone too.
Can u make a video on what kind of sheep u have? And what happen the first year with your sheep ? How did the new sheep survive better?

I love my sheep - they just go about their business, no issues and give me entertainment, wool, and meat and improve my pastures!!
We do both sheep and goats. Goats milk is FAR superior. Goats are more hardy than sheep but can be harder to contain but Premier1 fencing negates that.
Also, goat is the most commonly eaten meat in the world.

@@slee7991 Goats stand for milking. Never had a willing sheep stand for milking. Sheep milk doesn't taste good to me(if your goat milk doesn't taste good, move the buck away and the goat to pasture not the woods). Goats put out a lot more milk per day than sheep.
Goat meat is delicious, Mutton/Lamb too but I've eaten more Goat than Sheep.
@@edgarfriendly5081 good to know. My son is allergic to cows milk so we've been doing goat milk (from the store). He likes it, but it smells like farm to me and my other son won't drink it. I had been wondering what sheep milk tasted like, and now that we have some land my wheels got turning.

Hey, some of us like those devil eyes, and goat meat is wonderful, but I do like lamb.
I am dying to get sheep but a local HOA rule says I only get 3 livestock and I have 3 cows (no roosters, only 12 chickens, etc). It's dumb. We are on acreage and have a freaking HOA. So I get excited when I see videos like yours encouraging people to get animals but it's hard because a lot of people simply aren't allowed to
Now you know..NEVER buy into an HOA
Work with like-minded homeowners in your neighborhood to get this rule changed.
The regulations on HOAs that I'm familiar with only allow them to "inspect" what they can see from the road/street, or what a complaining neighbor can verify (with photographic evidence, but even that may not stand). Which brings us to the good old "better to ask forgiveness than permission." This former people pleaser/rule follower is now a full-on advocate of quiet rebellion against lawless authority. FWIW ;)

Justin, you are right they are not milk duds. But they are smart pills, if a child eats one they say it tastes like poop. A learning tool.
And not the only say that you actually know everything that's going into your animal and therefore you are eating something that you know is not only sustainable but it's also organic God Bless America thank God we can still do that here thank you Mr Rhodes for helping and for sharing your videos God bless you and your family

I love sheep. I grew up in South Africa and we had sheep on our farm. Love it.
My sheep jump my electric fence. But the 16x16 steel cage keeps them in. I'm running 13 of them right now in two of those pens. I need a 3rd, though.
I have 3 beef cattle that we bottle raised here on the farm. And they are ivy, bramble, honey suckle bush eating champions, Mostly because they were raised here always eating it. They will train our next calves to also eat those things

Our farmer down the road used one for pigs. They used t-posts to keep it from flying off in storms.

I know you have been having trouble with the cats...I found this in a gardening book I was reading today maybe it will work for you. The book says you get conifer branches and place them in between the rows of vegetables.

Often times it just plain comes down to money...
good dense content coverage - i still think you need bigger pastures out back - even less work and management is key - clear land but you have to add a bunch of compost to bring it up to speed quick - the entire farming thing is way more complicated than people think - why so many small farms are getting wiped out - i think you should double down on garden - use big logs as raised beds
Seven ewes one ram so far. Two tractors. Need to add the mineral thing to each one. And my 40gal is too heavy to move. I need to get two 20gallon ones.

In your country, how many square meters of land is meant by "1 Donum"? The reason I ask this is that while the term 'acre' is accepted as 1,000 square meters in some countries, it is accepted as 4046.9 square meters in some countries. Therefore, when you say that this piece of land is suitable for 2 to 4 sheep, how many square meters do you mean? Please answer this question because I couldn't clear it up.

We love sheep ! They do need a HOT fence. They will learn to go through a weak fence especially the lambs. Bad habits are harder to. Break so invest in a GOOD charger that keeps your net at 7000.

sheep are cool - just be mindful if raising a ram from bottle - lack of scare of humans means they can be full on once testosterone kicks in. Still love him lol
Yes!! Bottle raising a ram is not recommended and can turn DANGEROUS from what I’ve understand! Any bottle fed rams on our farm get eaten! 😃
You’d have to neuter him and let him stay with the girls.

You have to try grassfed lamb from hair sheep!! It’s SO good and doesn’t have all the greasy lanolin taste you get in wool sheep. (Standard lamb in the store is from wool sheep.) 😋 We raise katahdins, and it’s my favorite meat!

9:32 we don't need no stinking goats . lol. i can attest to that. my mom got a couple of goats. they kept strangling themselves in the fence. annoying. one finally died; she gave the other away just to be done with them.
I have to supplement with hay 365 days a year. Have you ever seen a sheep 16 inches deep in the mud. It's an experience. 👍
