would love it if bass vids make more appearances! lots of fascinating bass models to make interesting reviews on. plus you got some great feel for the bass, I'd say it'd just be a matter of learning songs to play some technical stuff.

I have a Rootmaster MAG 420 and I love it. Very versatile amp with a wide selection of tones and features that is more than loud enough for small gigs. My Ric sounds awesome through it

Hi Lee, thanks for your bass videos. As some others have previously mentioned, I guess that the EQ section comes from the Mag configuration and is in fact a 5 band fixed EQ: besides the Bass, Middle and Treble, Ashdown uses to put in-between bands (low-mid and high-mid) which are displayed by their frequencies. In the ABM series you get them as sliders, with two sliders for each side, for a total of 7 bands. But they're all set.
I came to this after watching the more recent ones with Nathan and as a owner of an Ashdown ABM Evo2 (and ABM 4x10) and ex Mag owner who hasn't been up to date with new Ash gear for years, I'm quite glad to and see they've done some nice things expanding "the Mag core" and bringing in some ABM elements such as drive. At the same time, I'm surprised to see that this head is already in the "Legacy" section of their site.
I'm a bit disappointed not to see an XLR DI on the back, though

I'm sorry... I know this is going to be such a stupid question, but I'm curious about how this was filmed. iPhone? Seems your usual video and sound quality isn't quite what it normally is. The only reason I ask is because I use your channel as the Benchmark:-) I've been desperately trying to DYI, improve my sound and I've foound my new iPhone actually performs pretty well on it's own compared to a $1200 Sony HD camera, I normally use. SO much editing with the camera, is needed. But the phone.... just seemed to need a lift in the bottom end. Not anywhere near the quality of this channel, but not coming out of a tunnel:-) I'd love it if you guys did a 'how to mic' your guitars, from the cheap end to the expensive end. Stuff we could say, pop into a guitar shop and buy:-)

Woodeso's Guitar Mods I see what you mean, theres quite a bit of white blow-out on the camera. I think the light is a bit too harsh to be honest.
If you are looking for a cheap way to get quality, is to get some $40 lights off ebay from China. 125W CFLs with softboxes. I've used a couple on my channel. Still learning to use em proper though. :)

Cool to see you do a Bass demo, even though I don't play bass. It's nice to see variety. You should do more of these. I think you did a decent job with the demo.
Have you thought of seeing if you can get Dave in there to demo bass gear?
I am sure the bass players would like that.

I like how you had the loop while using the controls. :D It's a shame you didn't do a camera closeup while describing the controls earlier though. :(
I've got this amp myself. It's super easy to use, and the EQ controls have good ranges.
They also do gig bags for the heads which I'm tempted to get one of. :) At the moment I just carry it around in a laptop sleeve. LOL

CaptAnderton That is actually semi-parametric EQ; parametric EQ includes a third control: Q (i.e. bandwidth). Much love, mate, it just bothers me because it is so bloody difficult to find parametric EQ outside of studio gear (other than the Para EQ pedal from Empress Effects).

Im very confused about the EQ description. According to Ashdownn the EQ knobs aren't sweepable at all, they are fixed. In fact the low and high mid knobs have their freq above them. Have i miss understood this or is this just really poor information you are giving out?

If it is a bass amp review keep it clean and don't use the pedals. sure we all love pedals as bass players but we really need to hear just what the amp sounds like.

Guitarists really shouldn't try to review bass gear. No offence meant, but you don't know what a bassist is looking for. Tones that sound great on guitars will make a bass just get lost in the mix (I know a lot of guitarists would love that, but it's not what most bassists want). The delay pedal you tried sounds great on guitar, but would make it impossible to put down a solid rhythm, which is the bass's job most of the time. Good bass gear isn't always gear that makes the bass sound more like a guitar. The fact that I have a good idea what most bassists are looking for doesn't mean that I know what drummers are looking for. I know guitarists tend to see basses as just watered down guitars that people who can't play guitar play, but it really is a different instrument with different standard roles and qualities. Understanding guitars doesn't mean that you understand basses by default. I'm sure you can find somebody who really knows basses that would be willing to contribute.
You also have to be really careful about using guitar pedals with basses because basses put out a lot more current than guitars. It's most likely not going to kill the pedal right off, but the engineers aren't always counting on someone hooking a bass up to their guitar pedals and the additional current can cause problems over time. You might be able to get away with it with a Mexican Fender Jazz bass because the pickups aren't that hot, but I really wouldn't recommend trying the same thing with a Stingray or anything with a very high output. While you're safe using any guitar with any bass pedal or amp, you aren't safe using any bass with any guitar pedal or amp.

    • @1dabirdman68

***** Why not?? Most real bass players use a pick in addition to just the fingers..You get much more attack & control over individual notes & more tone in general..In my opinion using fingers all the time enhances more low end and on different genres can sound muddy without lots of eq & compression..I always have a pick in my hand & switch out between pick & fingers multiple times depending on the song..
