I finally figured it out. Get a worm-gear hose clamp like you find on your radiator hose. Put the glider in the clamp and squeeze it until it's tight, then a little more to slightly deform it. It will now go in and will expand back out to hold forever. I fought this forever and finally figured this out. It's a little tedious at first to tighten, loosen and repeat but you'll get faster and the best thing... it works!!!

Perfect. Making it stay in with expanding friction has to be the best solution. Thanks for posting Mark!
I think I'd try a utility knife for tapering. Disc sander looks like a good way to get your nail polish removed.
I tried the knife. It didn't work and the risk of cutting my hand was too great. Good catch though.
I was hoping to hear some magic words in this video
I sand down the six little pieces that was sticking out. Then I used two piers to press them inside the circle. It worked like a champ.
Perfect. Thanks for sharing, I'm sure someone else may find this helpful also.
Thanks bro!
So….if you don’t have a sander…then what??
Try a file or safely whittle away with a sharp utility knife. It will take longer but will still work.
