    The 2021 Lexus LS is a very large, high-luxury sedan designed to cosset both drivers and passengers alike. A traditional luxury saloon rather than a tall and heavy crossover, the LS is slinky and stylish, and offers buyers a choice of two powertrains: the LS 500 twin-turbo 3.5-litre petrol V6, and the LS 500h 3.5-litre V6 petrol-electric hybrid.
    If you wanted to spend $200,000 on a super-luxury sedan, would you consider the Lexus LS? Or is the perennial Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 or BMW 7 Series more your speed?

    Great review. Minor correction, "Lexus shied away from touchscreens for a long time" - they actually had touchscreens before all of the competitors. The previous generation LS had a touchscreen. The 2006 IS and 2004 GS had touchscreens. But the Germans avoided touchscreens because of fingerprints, so Lexus followed suit. Now they've finally come back around again!

    $200K for any car sounds crazy but the way this works is director/middle management leases this car under the business name then it goes back to Lexus after 4 years. The depreciation is written off and they end up paying next to nothing for those 4 years of ownership.
    This is also how fleet leasing works with big companies that have large fleets of vehicles.

    • @medved4030
      @medved4030 Před 2 lety

      2 main reasons... 1. the Aussie dollar sucks compared to the USD.. the exchange rate AUD-USD is 0.74. Reason 2: Our gvt in Australia rapes us with taxes. In addition to the RRP of the vehicle when you add the costs off all the extra options you ordered eg metallic paint, bigger rims etc there is also a dealer delivery charge which can be anywhere from $1500 - $8000 depending on the vehicle and is at the total discretion of the car dealership selling you the car. A further 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applied and this is the vehicles base value excluding further government charges. These include Stamp Duty which is an additional 3-5% charge, and the notorious Luxury Car Tax which is an additional charge of 33% on top of any value exceeding the LCT threshold which is set pretty low, last time i checked it was around $68,000. Finally there are smaller charges involving Registration and CTP. In your example above, $110,000 USD = approx $150,000 AUD (110,000/0.74). Lets say dealer deliver for a car like this around $5000 so thats $155,000. GST of 10% = $15,500 (155K x 0.1) so your new costs are now $170,500. Now calculate the Luxury Car Tax which is on the base value of the car including GST being $170,500K, so any amount above the threshold of $68,000 is taxable an additional 33%. In this case this is equal to $33,825 ((170,500 - 68,000) x 0.33)). Add this to your other costs and you get $204,325 AUD (33,825 + 170,500). Thats why you wont see many LS, S class A8 or 7 series on the streets in Australia.
