    In order for Tiger to win again he needs to play around 10 times a year. He can't do it playing majors only. If he got healthy enough to do that he could get a couple more. I think its highly unlikely he'll ever be healthy enough to do that.

    • @bwalsh1105
      @bwalsh1105 Před 28 dny

      First I think it’s entirely possible for him to win again however I think it’s more nuanced. It’s hard to play and win at the professional level when you only play 10 times a year. His body and in particular his legs are completely fried. He also needs to practice rigorously as well to perform at that level. It’s too physically demanding. He pushed himself too hard coming back from all his injuries. In my opinion, the only way he wins again, is if he finds a way to take enough time to physically restore his body. Idk if that’s even possible at this point but he can’t win when he can barely walk around the golf course

    Look at Tigers results in 23/24.. even in his own tournament (hero challenge) he came 18 out of 20, 20 shots behind the winner.. the last two masters he is +15 over par . Does Tiger still have a golf game?, absolutely, does he have the physical stamina due to injuries, unfortunately not. You cannot get more rounds or reps if after 2 rounds youre struggling with walking. I think he should still play and accept invites to tournaments but expectations as fans now should be he is there to boost viewer ratings, crowds and to see an odd glimpse of the magic which dominated golf for so long.

    Tiger will be 50 in a couple of years. He'll go to the Champions Tour and do well there. Riding in a cart, three day tournaments, no cut line, shorter courses, and playing with guys he played with in his heyday. His days of dominating the PGA Tour are in the rear view mirror now.

    A guy like that will never quit. Can’t quit. It’s his whole identity. The man doesn’t play for fun he plays to win.
    He just needs to get off to a good start in a major in the first round which will lift him and make him believe in himself . The pain won’t hold him back if he gets some positive momentum going forward, he will fight through it for victory

    I hope he carries on for many years to come - but purely for his own satisfaction and enjoyment! (If he's able to take satisfaction and enjoyment from playing, knowing he isn't going to be a challenger at the top of the leaderboard). He's given enough to others and to the sport, now he's earned the right to play two rounds of golf a year at Augusta in his old red t-shirt for old times' sake, he's earned the right to take it easy, to sit back and lap up the adulation that he deserves. His presence as a winner isn't important any more. His presence is enough.

    @tonyk501 Před 18 dny

    Woods doesn't play enough competitive golf anywhere near often enough to contend for winning championships, and his various injuries won't let him practice or play often enough to stay sharp at an elite level.
    His car crash that shattered his leg effectively put the final nail in the coffin of his playing career, although he may later experience some success against the old-timers on the senior Champions Tour if driving power carts is still allowed by then, or if he can get through walking three rounds if he chooses not to use one.
    He is mostly a brand name at this point.

  • @kylejohansen689
    @kylejohansen689 Před 28 dny +2

    He's not winning any PGA Tour event right now if he's not playing competitive rounds. I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually expect himself to win any major he enters. He's in the phase Jack was in at the end of his playing career where he's just playing for himself, for the fans. Jack's best finish after 1986 was a T7, 6 and T6 at the Masters. Tiger can play majors just because he wants to, without any expectation of doing well.
    I would also say to Guy's point about golf being worse when he's gone ... Tiger's impact on the game made it clear he was going to leave it in a better place because all the top guys now grew up learning from him, and the game has grown so much in the last 25 years.

      And Jack was playing about 10 events a year up until 1995 to make that happen. Tiger will probably end up playing 5 events this year which is the most since 2020 when he played 7 times. That's not enough to be competitive. For comparison Tiger played in 18 events in 2018 which was crucial to his success in the following year's Masters.

    It is very hard for anyone to win on the PGA tour. Tiger has a very few years left. If he golfs 5 events a year, he has about 25 events before he is statistically over. So, I think it is unlikely he will win again. But look at the people he beat in the Masters for instance. Hovland, Speith, Thomas, Rose, Johnson, and Woodland. Are they over too? It is possible, although statistically unlikely.

    Tiger’s run at the top of golf was magnificent. He completely dominated golf from 1997 to 2009. Even after the back surgeries and personal issues he managed to get three more wins.
    But that’s where it stops in my opinion. His legs are completely ruined. He’s also playing less than 10 events per year. To be in with a chance at winning you have to be playing regularly and keeping fit. The guys at the top now are leagues apart from where he is.

    If Tiger can play the senior tour for 2 weeks to tune up before the masters or pga, he’ll always have a chance. He strikes the ball incredibly well and he still drives it well within tour avgs. It’s about time getting the short game dialed in for competitive golf and playing a couple practice and scouting rounds isn’t enough. Tiger Woods doesn’t bogey a par 5. This Tiger who doesn’t have the physical ability to walk a golf course every week for a month straight, does bogey par 5s. Just a matter of getting the right training in.

    Many people are under the impression that Tiger is still healing, and that once his leg has totally healed he'll be more competitive. But it's been over two years since his accident and that leg is as good as it's going to get. Meanwhile he has back issues and the other effects of aging to deal with. You have to walk about 30 miles in a week when playing a tournament, and walking on that leg is painful. That's why Tiger's scores tend to be near or under par in the first two rounds and then +3 or higher in the subsequent rounds. Tiger Woods is impaired. It's a permanent condition. Well, in 2018, lots of people said he wouldn't. Then 2019 happened.
    Chances are definitely getting lower but he's not playing enough to keep himself sharp enough. That's his issue. Time is against him and his playtime needs to be higher, but his body is pushing back.

    I don’t think Tigers body will allow him to win. I hate to say it but Tiger has other issues as well that I think seriously affect his golf. For example, he’s been in rehab for drug abuse before his auto accident. With as much pain as he has to be in after the accident, I have serious doubts that he has actually kicked the habit. If he’s still hooked, I believe over time that addiction will continue to influence his personality and his priorities in a negative way.

    You can’t dispute what tiger has done and done for golf. However I think the issue with him playing and playing the golf he is at the moment is the media coverage he gets. He gets coverage as if he’s in contention every time. that’s where I think it’s getting frustrating watching golf. He could still win. However give him the coverage his place in the tournament is dictating.

    I feel like he will win another major. BUT he needs to change his game, he's gotta take out some of the shots in his bag, and he's gotta play probably more forgiving clubs. L ook at scotty, he changed up his putter and it worked for him. I think tiger just needs to accept he's older and with a change he's going to win another one.

    Woods looks like he's in so much pain, when he's in the second round, trying to make the cut... (and exaggerates this when he's playing so badly). He sweats like a pig on the golf course now, whist others are barely breathing heavily... and he's just relying on muscle memory to get him through. He's done.
    Maybe do what old footballers do... go into coaching (can he do for Charlie what Earl did for him?), management, or how about TV punditry?

    He was hitting a 30 yard cut at the PGA at 170 ball speed, thats too much distance to be giving up to a Shauffele for example who's mid 180's all day long. Your 40 yards behind off the tee. Id like to see him bow out at the masters, he wont just make up the numbers. But because of the firm and fast conditions i still wont rule him out of the British just yet.

    Everyone in this comment section so sure he's done?? I doubt you'd say Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, Ricky Fowler, Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Will Zalatoris can't compete. None of them have a SINGLE major. And the list of great golfers with only one major is extremely long, but they can't compete? Tiger has 15 of them. The guy could put a good Major tournament together and win it, he certainly knows how mentally. He's far from "done." Majors are difficult so odds are not great for any golfer including Tiger, but "done" or should have retired is plain dumb. I think everyone saying that is spoiled from the days of Tiger always being right near the top in everything he played. That's not normal. Missing cuts and not contending every Major is normal, then you have a great week and win one.

    Golf is all about the Majors and CZcams now. The mainstream channels are waiting for Tiger's son to arrive to the PGA Tour so they can continue the saga, i disagree when Guy says there are more characters or sub plots to follow, watching Morikawa and Schauffele was like watching paint dry. If i was Tiger i would enter one of the lesser tour events, just to get the chance to be competitive again.
