  • York Steak House was started as part of a chain restaurant concept back in the 1960s. The first restaurant was opened in Columbus, Ohio on Morse Road. The chain expanded into shopping malls throughout the 1970s, but by the mid-1980s they started to shut down as more competition arose with newer shopping malls and food courts.
Only one York Steak House remains today on West Broad St. in Columbus, Ohio which is family owned and operated. Producer George Levert checks in with the owners to see what has made the restaurant stand the test of time.

Excellent segment! My parents had their first date at York Steakhouse in 1973, and of course, York is a beloved institution with generations of us westsiders.

I HAD NO IDEA THIS PLACE STILL EXISTED!!!!!! I loved York Steak House in my local mall in the Boston area growing up!!! I seriously am planning a trip to Columbus to go here. I really need to taste that honey glazed chicken again. My mom used to get mad at me because I'd eat the candy-like skin and leave the meat. :)

A fantastic place! Food is great and a good throwback to Ponderosa and Bonanza! 🙏🏻🥩 We drove up from Kentucky to try it.

One of my all-time favorites and my family goes here often to this day. Jay Bettin is the nicest guy and cares about keeping this tradition and nostalgia alive. This concept could be very popular again in the US, we would love to own one or a similar style restaurant with same concept of value family dining

Great segment. I remember going here back in the day with family when visiting Columbus to go shopping. Thank you for reminding us of this awesome place.

George , great job! I used to go to New York steakhouse on Friday nights when my father got paid with my family in Natick Massachusetts. Back in the 1980s.
My real question is George perhaps you would know this, is this a franchise? Any more of these able to pop up in other states at all? Looking at the business model and nostalgia, I would assume if one of these popped up in my area, it would be immensely popular! Besides, you can’t beat the prices!!!

    I miss York so much!
My location was at the Brunswick Square Mall in NJ.
I actually visited Columbus for a few years almost a decade ago and I had no idea York was there.
When I try explaining how great it was to people, they just can’t understand.

There was a reference to York Steak House on "Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt" so I had to look it up. Never dined there, but likely passed by more than one.

The last time I went to a York Steak house was on my 13th birthday. It was at the Eastland mall location.
They had that restaurant in the mall and the one out on Hamilton Rd.
I think the one in the mall closed down not too long after. And the one out by itself closed down in 1991,
    maybe??? 🤔
