James Robbins heads to the River Trent at Rolleston near Newark, a stretch of water run by Nottingham Piscatorials. At this time of year when the river is full of smaller fish, switching to hemp and tares is a devastating method to find the better-sized roach. It's also a cost-effective bait, especially when purchased in bulk. James is pole fishing with our Cadence CP2000 Pole, he shows you all the tips and tactics you need for a successful day fishing with this often overlooked but devastating bait.

brilliant video james, james is excellent on camera and explanations of rigs and feeding is great. looks a lovely venue
Best angler, best narrator and best cameraman on CZcams, to use one of your phrases James.... best presentation. Brilliant.
Best comment 😍
Excellent video James. Cadence have set a very high bar with regards to qaulity and content. Chappy's camera work as usual is beyond compare. I tend to watch every Cadence film I find because the information in them is incredible and of course there is your narrative which is always great. Tight lines.
At it again with yet another faultless production, great venue and a master at work with that superb pole and of course it goes without saying the master himself behind the cameras with some brilliant footage.
It’s been said by quite a few but these videos are without doubt the very best on CZcams
Thank you kind sir😀
Lovely fishing and glad you noted our request for more Trent content at the recent Radcliffe road show James. Thanks very much.
Hi well what a great video. This is one of my favourite ways of catching roach. Isn’t it funny two or three of the best baits for Roach seem to be bread punch, and hemp and tares and happily makes for a cheap day’s fishing. Some great explanations from James combining with Ian’s superb camera work keeps this team at the top. Kindest regards Bill
cracking video .. ive caught a few perch over the years on seed in winter on the fen drains .. none that size but they will have a tare !!
That brings back net fulls of memories, I used to fish that same area many years ago on running line. When the roach were on the tares it was always a cracking day's fishing. Thank you for reminding me.
Go and relive it👍
@@CadenceFishingUK Would Love to but I now live overseas, miss the Trent
@@ianabbott785 ah! 👍☺️

not a carp in sight wonderful, keep this up its fantastic
Just awesome James proper fishing at its best only thing missing was monty enjoyed that .
I haven’t done much hemp and tare fishing but after this video I certainly will start giving it a go.
Well done again James and Chappie.
Two classic quotes..." Nice Pheasant " & " Big Old Billy Perch ". James you are a great angler, but you also make me laugh. Got to enjoy our angling and you are a kindred spirit. Look forward to drawing near to you again in a match on the river, It will be a pleasure. Until our paths cross again, tight lines mate. Regards... Andy.
Great video some great tips that i will use on the 13ft deep swims on my local river that does respond to hemp and tares as the season moves on towards the begining of autumn, thank you James another cracking feature .
Another great video. Brought back great memories of fishing hemp on the pole on the fourth & clyde canal 20+ years ago 👍
Very interesting way of moving the float forward from 11m to 13m and well explained why you do it. Great video!
Another great video, the first fish I caught when I was a kid was a roach so I have a soft spot for them and that Perch was a real bonus.
Not fished the trent in along time used to fish for the barbel i love fighting fish but nice video james awesome job chappie as usual nice perch james really enjoyed it boys cheers Allen
Cracking film again. Well done 👍👍👍
perfect on the seed baits great work
Another fantastic video from James and Chappy. James made fishing 6 metres to hand look effortless .
That superb pole helps....
The pole does look a quality piece of kit. But it takes a good angler to make it look that easy.
@@paulhirst4617 yep👍
Nice video guys and an interesting peg with deep water close in for the pole 👍
Many years ago i used to fish with hemp and tares on the Victoria Embankment you could never find anywear to fish now you never see anybody fishing the Embankment now .
Absolutely loving these river pole fishing videos. They’re such a joy to watch and so immersive that I almost don’t realise I’m learning a boat load from them. The fact Cadence videos are packed full of information is just the icing on the cake... or maybe the bonus perch in a net full of silvers!
Keep doing what you’re doing, I can’t fault it guys 👍🏼
Sounds like we've cracked it then😃
James have you entered our Supa Supa competition to win a cp2000 pole? Just subscribe to our newsletter....on the website
Cadence Fishing UK I tried to do it but it turns out my email is already registered and I’m apparently a bit of a veteran at being subscribed. Surely that sort of keenness is pole worthy 😂
@@jamesbrewer181 top man, top job, good luck👍
Awesome video, proper fishing,
Nice video. I fish this method on the River Yare in Norfolk. I do find that shot are a big no as the fish will take the shot.
Amazing perch lucky catch
Great video and great tips, thanks guys.
You're welcome
Superb video... Fantastic Friday night entertainment boys.

@@johnthompson9171 thanks John. James and I challenge each other to produce the best fishing/footage each time we go out. We are of course delighted when people take the trouble to pass on their appreciation. Chappy
What was the optimum depth on the 1.25 grm rig please, I am finding I only seem to catch from 2 inches off anywhere upto 1 ft off being best and i seem to have to go well down the peg In only
12ft of water.
stephen brand Hi Stephen, I caught with that rig from dead depth to about 2ft of the bottom. No set rules really the fish where moving up and down in the water. Anything any shallower was hammered by smaller roach, dace and even bleak!
Top video again James am impressed with your poles they look great am thinking of dyeing a new pole are they as good as they look
Anthony Smith Hi Anthony, please send me an email: jcrobbins@cadencefishing.com
Be happy to meet up and show you the pole. Cheers James

or early hours of Saturday morning...
James great vid as usual what catapult do you use looking for goodun for rivers
Anderw Mccleave Hi Andrew, I use the old river king frames with a stronger elastic most of the time. Cheers James
You need to sort them dodgy rigs out first!
@@robertcourt8593 sorry, could you explain further?
@@CadenceFishingUK lol I was talking to mac. He reckons he blanks all the time because he can't feed far enough out but really he's just rubbish!
@@robertcourt8593 cheers...was a bit confused.😂
Bolo would have worked on that day James ?, with that upstreamer. Perfect mate?. Realise that if you have set out to fish a certain style, for the channel content, you are somewhat restricted. Nice video though, as always. Thankyou.
Pole offered superior presentation I think. But yes you answered your own question really. Chappy
Would you have weighed in that perch in a match James?!
For sure...
As for the big perch you caught, personally I would never have broken the hooklength on purpose. With today's modern stainless steel hooks, the poor perch will meet with great difficulties in getting rid of the hook. Even if only the roach it swallowed was hooked, the hook remains a sharp object that could cause intestinal disorders for the perch. For the rest, great video, very interesting because tare fishing is not widely known in Holland. One other remark: when will England finally ban coloured maggots? They are not natural and some dyes (especially bronzes and reds) are known to be poisonous and are considered carcinogenic. The day they were banned in Holland, we continued to catch the same amount of fish on white, oncoloured maggots. With Brexit on hands, following Euopean laws in this respect, will be another utopian dream. Still, tight lines from Holland! Ton Uittenbogaart.
With all due respect Tom, no instruments as you described were available. We believe the perch had swallowed the roach too far down to start messing about anyway at the risk of further damage. Maggot here in UK are fed the dye internally. Not on the skin. All the best.
Just for your information: red maggots over here were dyed, using Sudan Red coloured meat offalls, the same dye that is used for certain kinds of diesel oil. This dye is poisonous, but it was the only dye that worked. Other products, like food colourings dit not work properly. Since the Dutch Anglers Association introduced the ban on the use of red maggots, anglers have not caught less fish. On heavily fished venues, like harbours and canals, where pearch and eel, even roach had turned red, because of eating dyed maggots, things have turned to normal.
When I go pleasure fishing, I don't use a keepnet; I just count the fish I catch and then return them to the water. In this respect I observe that in Belgium, on various venues, especially canals with heavy commercial boat traffic, like the Albert Canal, keepnets are no longer allowed by law. Only during official matches, keepnets can still be used.
Tight Lines Ton Uittenbogaart
@@teunisuittenbogaart1053 different strokes for different folks as they. Cheers and tight lines.👍
Hi Ton, regarding the perch I really had no choice with removing the roach and hook. It had swallowed the roach down into its stomach and I think trying to remove it would have really damaged the perch. The tail of the roach was only just visible in the perches mouth! I was using a small size 20 fine wire hook at the time and I really don’t think it will cause a problem. We always care about the fish we catch and release and really couldn’t have done any more. Cheers James
