    Saw the Concorde as it flew past my house when it landed in Singapore for the 1st time. Beautiful. Too bad, they are no longer in service.

    The Royal Air Force operated from RAF Changi until 1971. The airport today is beyond the wildest dreams of those like myself, who operated at WSRC (RAF Changi 1967-1970) Singapore's major expansion in all types of business is legend but the AIrport takes a lot and I cannot see ANY OTHER NATION who has moved so quickly and so technically advanced than Singapore. The latest expansion is a tribute to the Government and people of that Tiny Island State and I cannot see any other country in the world who has succeeded in a similar manner, Well Done Singapore !

    I love being able to look back in time like this. Seeing that circular runway at Kallang gives me hope for the future. Every once and a while today you hear people put forward the concept of circular runways but they're often quickly shot down as impractical. I'll bet none of the detractors have ever seen Kallang.

      Kallang never had a circular runway. The circular landing zone was a grass field where smaller planes could take off and land from any direction. Its paved runway was straight.

    I should comment Singapore made a very wise decision to withdraw from the Federation of Malaysia to be a Republic of Singapore. Look at Sarawak and Sabah today under the fold of Malaysia, they were the poorest States under the Federation and yet they were the richest states. Singapore is the world most busiest airport, its port is the busiest and their Singapore Airline is awarded the most safest airline with almost zero incident .

    Originally from Carlang Airport (all are propeller planes, jet engines were not invented yet), then shifted to Pile-Up-Lay-Pile Airport. Then to Junkyi Airport. The rest is history.

    • @Bellakelpie
      @Bellakelpie Před 3 lety

      @@simonsimon2888 1959 is when LKY won power as leader of the PAP. His involvement in Singapore Politics started from his involvement as part of the defence team in the August 1954 "5-1-3" legal case, which came out of the Anti National Service protest riot of May 13 1954. LKY wrote about it in his excellent book, " The Singapore Story." ....LKY and Marshall did not like each other. 😉
