More Than Just The Best Long Range Drone?! | iFlight Chimera 7 HD

  • The iFlight Chimera 7! What an incredible drone. As you can tell by my reaction, I was a bit stunned at the shear size of a 7" quad. The drone is very smooth and stable. Doing a test hover line of sight shows just how steady the drone is. Usually when flying line of sight I am swaying all over the place having to make a ton of extra corrections to keep it level, but this was a breeze. After getting my goggles on and flying FPV, my best description of the drone is air superiority or air supremacy. If drones were military combat machines, this is one of those that you would not want to mess with. Its got so much presence in the air and it just carries its momentum along with ease. In addition to long range and long flight times, the Chimera 7 can actually freestyle (even with the lower kv motors). Check out the video to hear the rest of my thoughts!

    The GPS module is capable to use Galileo but iflight does not activate this feature in BF as default. I'm not looking for cruising, so I upgraded the motors to 1800KV and installed 8" 3-blade Props. With a 70C 2800mAh battery and GoPro10 my topspeed was 111mph. But I will change the Xing motors with a different brand to achieve more top speed. At the bottom in the rear is an ABS board installed for a second GoPro facing backwards. I love my Chimera. 😊

    • @LZRFPV
      @LZRFPV  Před 2 lety

    • @maryjane136
      @maryjane136 Před 2 lety

      Galileo is the latest GPS Satellite system. (Use Google). Go in Betaflight 10.7.2 in "Configuration" and choose "UBLOX" protocol. Then the switch "Use Galileo" appears. Now you have Galileo satellites in addition. - Yes Polycarbonat props are overstrained that's why I use Gemfan 8060 carbon props. You have to use 6mm spacers for the rear motors otherwise the props will overlap.

    i build myself a Chimera 7 and man that Qwad is amazing. It flys so good. It is so fast each time i switch back to my 5 inch i got the feeling anything is holding me.
    Flight times without a GoPro
    6S Lipo 3300mAh -> 9-12 minuts of flight time (fun setup)
    6S1P DIY Li Ion 4000mAh with 21700 cells -> 18 - 24 minutes of flight time (best agile LR setup)
    4S2P DIY Li Ion 6000mAh with 18650 cells -> 19 - 25 minutes of flight time (less Power than 6S but also less weight)

    • @LZRFPV
      @LZRFPV  Před 2 lety

      Hey!! Stoked to hear that you are thinking about grabbing this bad boy! On my existing set up with the stock DJI Controller I have gone out about a mile without a problem and I was flying from inside my car (so my signal was probably not the best). I hadn't set up GPS rescue so I got very uncomfortable as the bars started to drop a bit, but it held up fine. I would feel much more comfortable going "long range" if I had Crossfire or ELRS on it. It definitely is a big chunk of change, but its well worth it. It's a monster in the air and can fly for 10-20 minutes with the right battery set up! If you do end up deciding to grab it, you should consider helping me out by checking out my links in the video description ☺. I will admit that I do not fly it as often as I would like, but thats because its not easy for me to find the time or space to take it out for long range flights.

      @LZRFPV  Před 2 lety

      @@checkeredflagfilms Yeah, what you read is correct. In my situation, I chose the DJI Controller when I was just starting the hobby because it was just so easy and didn't require an additional receiver in the drone, but for long range, crossfire and a crossfire transmitter like the (TBS Tango 2) are considered one of the best. Since I dont have that set up right now, I have not flown any super long range flights, plus Id probably be too scared to lose my drone. However, ELRS is starting to outshine crossfire and its open source which is enabling all manufacturers to create products around it which is driving the cost of ELRS set ups down compared to Crossfire and TBS Proprietary Products. I have some ELRS stuff coming soon and thats what I will plan to use for long range (assuming I like it)

      @@Editer38738 ummm you technically don’t have to but I think they only come with angle mode meaning you won’t really get the full acro control like normal FPV. So in my protek video I removed some of the regions on the angle mode item of the modes tab and that is acro mode.

      @@LZRFPV A bad question. flt time with insta 1R could be 25min?? and what is the big differance between my reg drone and this fpv? other than speed. I am an old newbee

    • @LZRFPV
      @LZRFPV  Před 2 lety

      @@duanebowman9595 you could potentially get 25 minutes flight time but would need the right battery set up. Likely a li-ion for cruising (not speed or punch outs). And when you say reg drone I assume ur thinking DJI camera drone? FPV is very different, almost too much to explain.

      @@duanebowman9595 Ah man. Well Autel drones are very similar to the DJI camera drones, but neither of them are FPV drones. With an FPV drone you have to wear the goggles to truly experience the flying and do the crazy maneuvers. This drone is way faster, way more durable, more maneuverable, and more customizable. FPV drones are also much harder to fly. They do not hover in place without you constantly adjusting the control sticks, unless you flash the drone with INAV firmware and customize the GPS hold and auto hold capabilities, but that is not common for FPV Drones.

    I have the Chimera 7 and the Rekon 7.
    Rekon 7 is better, hands down.
    The only superiority of the Chimera vs the Rekon is that it would probably break less in a small crash (both would get destroyed if heavy crash)

      Just did a quick comparison of the two and I am curious what it is about the Rekon that makes it more durable than the Chimera? Both frames are very similar and the carbon thickness is near identical

      @davincifpv3983 Před 2 lety

      @@LZRFPV In case of a crash I think the Chimera would get more survival ability. A light crash.
      For the rest, feels like the Rekon is superior in range, flight time (I did some comparison) etc. Also lighter.
      However, the Rekon out of the box needed tweaking in BF (even if BNF) to get the rid of vibrations.
      Both are great anyway but having the two I think the Rekon pushes it a bit further for purely Long Range
